2012 FRC Arizona Regional
All right guys... Who's going? Any predictions based on what you've seen already?
|
Re: 2012 FRC Arizona Regional
We'll be there in full force. I happen to think we have a good contender this year and an excellent drive team that knows the robot well.
We haven't done research just yet for each of the robots showing up, but I predict we'll be making another appearance in the elimination rounds. |
Re: 2012 FRC Arizona Regional
Looking forward to making the drive to Phoenix to inspect amazing robots

We're starting to get really excited. Our rookie year has gone pretty well this year, and I think we are all really proud of what we were able to accomplish. We're on spring break this week and we're working on our shooter tuning and vision tracking. We had a fun time seeing what all was out there at the duel, and we're excited to see how the competition goes. Here's the best picture I have with me right now:

Re: 2012 FRC Arizona Regional
Should be fun! We got plenty of practice at San Diego...we're ready to rebuild our robot Thursday in Chandler

Seems almost necessary :) Gap filler for the rest of you: the Arizona NHL team is the Phoenix Coyotes... |
Re: 2012 FRC Arizona Regional
Hockey? You've got to be crazy! We get plenty of that around these parts. I think the mentors are already trying to figure out how we can squeeze in a round of golf in between matches :D.

Re: 2012 FRC Arizona Regional
The week is finally here. Time to check in!

Re: 2012 FRC Arizona Regional
Team 842 is totally pumped and ready for the Arizona Regional. Good luck to all the teams going.

Our robot is loaded and ready to go on it's 200 mile journey to Phoenix. My son said he gets to haul the Bit Buckets (4183) robot up from Tucson, in his 1959 chevy truck.
I predict...it will be a competitive regional! |
Re: 2012 FRC Arizona Regional
Team 1290 will be there and we hope to accomplish something we haven't been able to do the last 2 years.....score a point

Hope the Arizona regional is great this year, it sounds like a few teams have already had success out of state in earlier regionals. Strange feeling, this is the first Arizona regional ever where I won't be there for at least 1 day (even though I wasn't in high school yet I still saw Saturday of 2003's competition). I expect updates from 498 throughout competition! Good luck everyone! |
Re: 2012 FRC Arizona Regional
Any idea if there will be a webcast?
|
Re: 2012 FRC Arizona Regional
We are on our way with an awesome and excited team. Project NEO Team 1164 is ready for some fun. Come visit us at the pit and good luck to everyone.

Re: 2012 FRC Arizona Regional
We made it, with the robots and tools and stuff.
See you all tomorrow, should be fun! ![]() |
Re: 2012 FRC Arizona Regional
Excellent 1st day off qualification matches. Few stand outs and observations..
Teams 610, 842, 1726, 498 based on scouting info Alot of teams haven't read the rules regarding human player! ramps have decided quite a few matches. Should be a great Saturday ahead of us. GOOD LUCK! |
Re: 2012 FRC Arizona Regional
Is there a link to the match results and standings somewhere ? The one on the First website isn't working.

Re: 2012 FRC Arizona Regional
It was a great regional! Had to go to three matches in the final! 610, 1212 thank you very, very much! Now on to the championships!
Here is a copy of our email blast The Falcon Robotics Team of Carl Hayden High School with their robot Angelica's DREAM, named after the Valedictorian ASU Mechanical Engineering student Angelica Hernandez who has recently been accepted to Stanford University with a fellowship, won the FIRST Robotics Arizona Regional! The event was held at Hamilton HS in Chandler this past weekend. The team had 10 wins 1 loss in the qualifying rounds and was ranked number 2 behind Team 610 the Coyotes from Toronto, Canada who was 11 and 0. During Alliance selection team 610 selected us, and through our scouting data we determined that team 1212 from Seton Catholic School of Chandler would make a great alliance. So off we went into the finals. Quarter final match scores were 36 to 12 and 37 to 15 with our alliance moving on to the semifinals. Semifinal scores were 69 to 22 and 54 to 32 and that advanced us to the finals. There appeared to be a field management system failure that caused our robot to crash into the opposing alliance ramp and we remained there for the remainder of the match.( we don't know this for sure) As a result of this significant and potentially disastrous mishap, we incurred a huge amount of penalties and thus we lost the match. The Falcon pit team quickly inspected the robot for damage and found little. They patched Angelica back up and she was ready to go. In the two subsequent matches we scored 67 to 50 and 61 to 44 and were victorious! We helped team 610 to win their first Regional Championship in ten years and team 1212 their first Regional victory ever! The International championship competition will take place from April 25th to the 28th in St, Loius, MO. We have pics from the event, and if anyone else has pics please send them and we will add them to the album. https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/1...37571592759441 But that's not all. The Falcons also won the Industrial Safety Award from Underwriters Laboratories for having the best run pit and the Innovation in Control Award by Motorola.... and wait! John Rangel won the Dean's List award and is now in contention for the national award. All in all it was a great Regional competition for Falcon Robotics! All of this success would not have happened if not for the help of the many mentors and sponsors, and I would like to take a minute to thank them here: Marzee Water Jet IMS Metal Southwest Fasteners Arizona Community Foundation Boeing JC Penney !nventivity Intel Gates Belts Sims Metal Management Fast Signs SEAD Architecture Microchip Critical Mass Communications Sling Rings Immedia EDU Team 39 Karen Suhm Jerry Little Marcos Acosta Carmen Cornejo Greg Harrison Steve Forbes Paul Price Srnka Johnson Jim Haugen Ken Whitley Beth Ellickson Eira Rodriguez Frank Neuperger Borna Emmami |
Re: 2012 FRC Arizona Regional
Congratulations, Fredi! I wish you guys the best at the Championship Event! Competition at this regional was tough for us. First year ever we had no technical issues, autonomous scoring, recovering balls and scoring in teleop, and easy balancing. Due to losses of 30-17, 22-39, 31-13, and 29-27 we didn't make it to the tournament, however. We did do successful coopertition bridges and were ready to make some but the opposing alliance couldn't get up the bridge. We did make 8 practice matches and every qualification match and never had a technical issue so we had a very successful season. Knowing the fierce competition at this regional I know you will do well at the Championship Event!
|
Way to go 842, 610, and 1212!! Those were some exciting Final Matches.
A big thanks to 1165 Team Paradise and 2134 AZtecs for taking 3785 into the quarterfinals. We had a ton of fun and despite some bugs we accomplished more than ever on the robot. Can't wait til next year until we unleash a big surprise for AZ next year!!! |
Re: 2012 FRC Arizona Regional
Congratulations Falcons on your second regional win in a row!
And it was great getting to know team 610, they are a class act. Also big congrats to the Falcons for the Motorola Quality award...I know that one means a lot And especially congrats to the CocoNuts for the Chairman's win!! We had a lot of fun at this regional, and are really excited about next year's new Tucson regional. That's right, we're getting TWO regionals in Arizona! |
Re: 2012 FRC Arizona Regional
Had an awesome time at the Arizona Regional at Hamilton High School this weekend! Great job to 1212, 610, and 842. Awesome and congrats to the Coconuts for their Chairman's win!
The Dragons had an amazing time, and really worked hard to reach a new level this season. We had no mechanical problems, passed inspection fairly early, went to practice matches, and applied for all awards. Our Chairman's presenters worked really hard and I am very proud of them. Our robot scored points and made it on the bridge, balanced several times. Congrats Dragons on winning the Gracious Professionalism Award! Now it is on to Las Vegas! |
Re: 2012 FRC Arizona Regional
Great Job Coconuts! Rockem at the Championships! We are pulling for you! Bring home another AZ HOF!

As a member of the alliance (2840, 1726, 60) whose clocks you cleaned in the semi-finals, I am strangely gratified to see the alliance of 610, 842 and 1212 be the ones to do it.
I echo Squirrel's comment about you guys being a class act. Congratulations and good luck in St. Louis. |

During the first final round, it appeared that your roller was caught between the bridge and the ramp under the bridge. Didn't see how it got there but that looked like the cause for not moving at least from where I was sitting. Congratulations to your team for a well played regional. It was fun watching you pop two and three in a row from the side of the fender into the three pointer. |

Team 2134 (I should just say "I") would like to thank team teams 1165 (Team Paradise) and 3785 (Gila Monsters) for being our alliance partners in the elimination rounds. It was great fun!
I would personally like to thank team 1164 (Project Neo) for giving us a valid solution to our control system problem which plagued us in our second day of qualifiers. After many technical troubles last year, our team moral was boosted by this years success, and we eagerly await next year's challenge! (How many days till that game hint?) |

Re: 2012 FRC Arizona Regional
We had a totally awesome time. Thank you to all teams for making our first event ever so incredible! It was such an honor to play on the same field as 610, 842, and 1212. Those last three matches were probably the most fun half hour of my life so far. I can't imagine having a more exciting match.
Thank you so much to the Cobras and Coconuts for choosing us to be on your alliance. I was really impressed by our teamwork, and you guys were so much fun to work with. Go CocoCobraCats! A funny side note: 610 and 842 both inspired parts of our robot. We originally got the idea for our ball intake arm from 842 in the second week of build season. It was totally crucial to our performance. 610's information on Chief Delphi was crucial to our implementation of CAN, which allowed us to use P.I.D. on our shooter. Without their help we wouldn't have been nearly as accurate. One more side note: I remember reading the WIRED article "La Vida Robot" when I was in fifth grade. Hearing about the beginnings of 842 was truly inspirational and has really stuck with me through the years. After following you guys for so long it was crazy for me to play with you. Thank you for all that you have done for FIRST in Arizona. I know that this weekend was life changing for me and many of the members of my team. We are really looking forward to continuing to grow in the future, and are proud to have been a part of the founding of what we hope will be a strong, long-lasting program at our school and in our community. |

As far as "La Vida Robot" its crazy playing against someone we inspired when they were in 5th grade, and it also makes me feel old. I am the only member of that team still "competing" in FIRST (at least in a mentor role) Its utterly fantastic to here about our impact on other people from the people that we impacted. Thank you so much. Any time your on this side of town please stop by and visit. Take care! PS we will keep posting stuff that we think is cool and might help. |
Re: 2012 FRC Arizona Regional
The Bit Buckets had a great time. We knew that we didn't deserve it, but it was quite amusing to see ourselves ranked third at the end of Friday.
I think the end result was as it should have been. The Falcon and Coyote teams are world-class. It was an honor to have lost our only matches to them. |

Re: 2012 FRC Arizona Regional
Wow, wow, wow! Our experience in Arizona was spectacular! I was so impressed with the warmth and hospitality shown to us by all the wonderful Arizona teams. Your enthusiasm is amazing. On Saturday night we just so happened to be at the same restaurant as team 1011. They all got up and stood around our table and gave us a standing ovation! It was a tad overwhelming. There were many more instances where teams stopped by to give us an encouraging word, and just lavish praise on our robot. It really was great to meet so many wonderful people. Arizona has got to be one of the friendliest regionals in First.
The fact that we were able to pull off our first win in 10 years was great, but my lasting impression will be of how wonderful the Arizonan teams are. Team 842: it was fantastic working with a world class team such as yourselves. We may have ranked number 1, but that was due to some dumb luck on our part. You definitely carried the alliance in the finals. We couldn't have won without you. Team 1212: thanks for being a great alliance partner. Those bridge points were important! Team 1011: your enthusiasm and kindness are remarkable. You built one of the most beautiful robots I have seen yet. The turret and shooter is a work of art. Keep up the hard work and I expect big things in your future. Team 1726: your ability to keep things simple yet effective are inspiring. Team 4126: this being your rookie year, I'm sure it was overwhelming, but I can see a lot of potential. You team worked well together under pressure. We loved sharing the best pit ever with you. Team 383: your robot was a mechanical engineering tour de force. Four speed transmission, eight wheel rocker suspension, centrifugal flywheel weights for the shooter... It was quite a treat looking through your CAD assembly. To all of the people who dropped by our pits to chat and ask about our robot: thanks for your kinds words and curiosity. One of the best things about First is touring the pits and seeing how other teams have tackled the same problem. Thanks for a great experience. We would love to come back some time. |
Re: 2012 FRC Arizona Regional
Thank you to the Coconuts and Sabercats for a great alliance pairing. We were so happy we could pick you both and couldn't of asked for a better partnership.
Team 842, 610, 1212 congrats on winning the regional, we were honored to be able to take it 3 final matches. Your teams are awesome and hopefully we can have a rematch of it again next year. Thank you all again. Go CocoCobraCats! |

Congrats to Fredi and the 842 team on building a fantastic scoring monster. That tele-op point total is only rivaled by 2056. It was really cool to watch 3 balls trail each other in the air and land in the basket. Great job, and hope to see you on Einstein!

Re: 2012 FRC Arizona Regional
Looks like AZ was a good event this year. Congratulations to 610, 842, and 1212 on the regional victory, and to 2486 on another Chairman's award. Hope you all do well at Championships!
Congratulations to 498 on making it to the Finals. That makes twice now, one of these days we'll get our first regional victory! Glad to hear the plans are in place for a Tucson regional next year. Arizona FIRST has come a long way since I was a freshman in high school! |
Re: 2012 FRC Arizona Regional
There are moments in your FRC career where you say to yourself "this is why we do FRC." Arizona provided plenty of those moments, although not for the reasons you might expect.
Not to downplay the robots, but I don't wish to dwell too much on the competition, or the fact that we were finally able to break a 10 year regional dry spell this past weekend by riding the coat-tails of our partners through the eliminations. To finally win a regional was amazing, but... To be honest... after 842, 1212 and 610 lost F1, to 2486, 498 and 4146, in our subsequent alliance huddle, I wasn't even a tad bit nervous, anxious or upset. Why? Because as long as we tried our best, I would've been more than happy to see the opposing teams win this regional. An alliance good enough to hit a 36-pt autonomous, where all 3 robots hit 2 shots each, deserves to win a regional (QF 4-1). And saying that doesn't do justice to the quality of those teams off the field either. The most important aspect of our time in Arizona this past weekend had nothing to do with robots. I had the pleasure of speaking and interacting with an incredible number of students, mentors and volunteers while at the competition. I really should name them all, as well as their respective teams, but the list would simply be too long. To quote one of our student team presidents (Patrick White), the enduring statement of the weekend was: "No seriously... EVERYONE was just... so... freakin'... nice!!!" It was a moment to re-ground ourselves, and to re-evaluate what we truly enjoy so much about FIRST. Canada is a very different place to compete in than Arizona, and there were many many things we experienced in AZ that I would love to bottle up and take home with us. That's not to say we don't love Canada (we do!!!), but as I talked to team members on the plane ride home about how to take the "next step" as a team, the conversation focused entirely on how we could be more like the teams here - particularly in how they interact off-the-field. There are so many teams in AZ that exemplify what we want to become, but I have to single out Crush 1011 in particular. I don't know if I've seen a team exhibit the level kind of pure, genuine, unbridled enjoyment of FRC as 1011. They were simply a pleasure to be around, all day, every day. It is a special team that can make those AROUND them enjoy the FRC experience that much more - regardless of how your robot is doing on the field. That's inspiration, and it's a skill that deserves as much attention as our ability to hit shots in hybrid, or triple balance a bridge, IMHO. I'm glad I had a chance to experience the importance of that first-hand. Thanks Arizona! |
Re: 2012 FRC Arizona Regional
Congrats to all the teams who competed in AZ! It was a truely memorable competition for so many reasons. It was very cool to have so many diverse teams at the event, it made it very interesting!
Congrats to 610, 842, and 1212. You guys were certainly the best of the best and it was great to compete with each of you! You guys certainly deserved the win and we are so excited to see all of you in St. Louis! I'm going to try to convince my team that we should go to the Toronto regional next year :) Congrats also to Tecbot on Engineering Inspiration, and the Sabercats for the Rookie All Star Award! We're looking forward to seeing you at Championships also!! And of course we have to give a huge thanks to the Cobra Commanders and Sabercats for being such great alliance partners! The CocoCobraCats would not have been the same without any one of us :) We got it next year right? Once again, congrats to all teams, Everyone played a part in making the AZ regional a success. Good luck to anyone competing in another regional or Championships!! -Team 2486 The CocoNuts |

610: Nice to have that monkey off your backs eh? 842: Back to back regional wins is pretty amazing. I wish I could say I've been part of something like that. 1212: 8 years since you last won a regional, it must be nice to have that monkey off your backs as well. After hearing so many great stories out of this regional, I really want to attend it next year. -Nick |

Hi All.
Congratulations to the 842, 610, and 1212 alliance, was a great to saw you play and recover to win the regional. 842 and 610 besides other great arizona regional participant teams have set our target as a team for the next years, so we will work harder to get the "A" class performance same as you. Coconuts you are awesome, we enjoyed your price, your deserve it!! Crush as always we are a great buddies and hopefully we can attend the Tucson regional next year. We appreciate to all Arizona teams the great support for us and we will be looking get back next year. This year we where planing be part of the top eigth but we did not perform as well as planned (Important is that we got the lessons and we will improve for the championship). Hope 2013 we finally get the regional at Mexico and all of you are more than welcome to visit us. Best Regards Fausto Vazquez. |
