St. Louis Reigonal 2012
So, who is going to be there? Who do you think is going to do well or not so well? What are your predictions for the event?
After watching GKC, I am guessing that 1986 will come out highly ranked again, seeing as many St. Louis teams went to that regional.. 1208 seems to be a potent threat also. |
Re: St. Louis Reigonal 2012
I think the "they" in the post is in reference to Titanium dominating the regional. (Which, in fact, they did.)

Re: St. Louis Reigonal 2012
It seems to me that St. Louis is a VERY young regional. 14 rookies and 23 teams 3000+. Teams that will have had experience going in will have a big advantage. Teams that got elimination experience will have even more of an advantage. This includes 1208, 1985, 1986, 1987, 3284 from GKC. Hopefully These guys will be able to help out many of the young teams at this event.
I may be able to come down for the competition on Saturday and support some of my old sister schools in 1986 and 1987. |
Re: St. Louis Reigonal 2012

In the spirit of continuous improvement and iterative design we hope to have a few changes to work on Thursday morning.

Re: St. Louis Reigonal 2012
With a win already under our belt, we are looking forward to devoting as much time as possible to helping other teams in any way we can. If your team needs programming assistance (LabView), nuts and bolts, tools, parts, or just someone new to look at a problem, please don't hesitate to come visit us.

Re: St. Louis Reigonal 2012
Team 1987, the Broncobots (as has been established already in this thread), will be at the St. Louis Regional. In the weeks to come, we are trying to step up our game as much as possible. I'd like to also extend our supplies, experience, and tools to all teams at St. Louis. Best of luck to you all!
Also Jeff, I like the new banner. What a machine you guys have this year! |
Re: St. Louis Reigonal 2012
Our team is looking forward to the St. Louis Regional. We plan on making plenty of improvements to our code and scouting system, which will mean I'll be spending plenty of time Thursday in the pit coding in LabVIEW. However, we do have the rest of our team who will be more than willing to help with anything. Along with me we have a few other programmers on our team willing to help out those that need it.
We had plenty of problems in GKC, and we hope to have all of those worked out by qualifications Friday so our robot can be working at its full potential. With a robot loaded with 5 PID loops, camera tracking, and two autonomous modes, (and hopefully more if we get the time) it's a miracle that we had it working at GKC. So once again, if your team needs some help, we're more than willing to give it to you. EDIT: Team 2902 is willing to pick up your robot for the regional for you. Re: St. Louis Reigonal 2012
I wrote this thread hastily, and didn't realize I put "dominated" in there. I didn't mean to write it, and sorry to any GKC teams that might have been offended by this hastily wriiten post.

Re: St. Louis Reigonal 2012
Anybody know of a webcast planned for this regional?
NASA never listed one for 2011 (http://robotics.arc.nasa.gov/events/...cwebcasts.php). So I'm not holding out high hopes for this year either. By the way, this is our team's first time at the St. Louis regional since our rookie year in 2007, although we have had some team members volunteer here in recent years. From all reports the arena is beautiful and the teams are friendly. Back when we were rookies teams like 45 and 829 were extremely helpful in helping us understand FIRST and improve our robot. As we return to St. Louis we would love to return the favor. Need a nut or bolt, we're bringing spares. Need help with Labview or putting together an autonomous routine, stop on by and we'll see what we can do. This is going to be a great regional. Can't wait to get the party started. |
Re: St. Louis Reigonal 2012
Team 1706 from Wentzville,MO went all the way to Championship quarter final last year, and they look pretty good this year.
The team looked pretty impressive, they had both a build and a separate design team with a couple students doing all their design on CAD. When I first joined them as a mentor, they were usually ranking on the bottom, they really began doing good when I left... ;) Cheers, Marcos. |

Re: St. Louis Reigonal 2012
Oh hey all, this is the PCH "Nuts'N'Colts" [4404] lead chiming in here. We BARELY got in there this year :D; we were actually waitlisted (that was SCARY, man!). We've one veteran (eh, that's me, THHS Steel Hawks [2601] in NY and PNHS Robohobos [2893] last year here), and we've got some pretty crazy stuff in store though we don't know how well it'll do on the field yet, hehe. Had some assistance from retired team, "W.A.R." [1609] and the Robohobos as well; from what I've seen this wasn't too bad for our rookie year.
Looking forward to seeing you all through the rest of the week! |

THANK YOU! We try hard as a team down here. It takes an army to keep this small village running. LOL

Re: St. Louis Reigonal 2012
Congratulations to our regional winners, 1985, 1986, and 4356! They were a (nearly) unbeatable alliance, dominated the whole way. I would also like to congratulate our regional Chairman's award winners, 1985, and our Rookie All-Stars, 4256.
Every team came out and did a great job this weekend, it was a great regional. Hope to see you all there next year! |
Re: St. Louis Reigonal 2012
At last, Cathy Sylve has received long overdue and well-deserved recognition for leadership as the founder and inspiration of the RoboHawks, FRC 1985. It is very fitting that her individual recognition comes at the RoboHawks' home event, with the team as the #1 draft on the winning alliance, and earning the Regional Chairman's Award. A trifecta. Well done, Cathy. You are my hero.
And well done, RoboHawks. Cathy set the bar high for you, and your team has met the challenge. I am very proud of you, as are many others both in St. Louis and far away. And as in every year since 2002, I am also very proud of Perpetual Chaos, FRC 931, my all-time favorite team. Congratulations on executing an unconventional game strategy and robot design, and on the Xerox Creativity Award. I really hope that next year's FRC calendar will not put the St. Louis Regional on the same weekend as my new team's home event. :( |
Re: St. Louis Reigonal 2012
That was a very fun reigonal. My First of many I would like to thank all of the judges and everybody that helped run the even and to team 1986, and 4356 for winning with us.

I was presented with the opportunity to learn from some of the very best from day 1! Thank you so much for the help you have given to me over the years, it has been deeply appreciated. I would also like to thank Perpetual Chaos for being an example for all of the teams in St. Louis to emulate. AND I would also like to thank Metool Brigade, 1208, for pushing us all year. We knew it would be a race and we have enjoyed working with you all year. You are truly an excellent team! We're all going to do our best to really bring along all of the rookie teams from St. Louis. |
Re: St. Louis Reigonal 2012
Thank you St. Louis for putting on a fantastic regional. A special thanks to the FTA and his assistants who helped us with our intermittent communication issues. It would have been a very different weekend without your suport.
When I saw 14 rookies on the roster for the tournament I wasn't sure what to expect. By the time the qualification matches were over we had 6 of those rookies in our 24 team pick list, and were thrilled to get 4356 with our last pick in the draft. You were exactly what we needed in a robot that could travel to the other side and play defense as well as balance. I'm sure we could have triple balanced with you if the situation had called for it. Good luck at champs. Congrats to 4256 on winning Rookie All-Star. Not only is your team well on it's way to developing a Chairman's worthy portfolio, but you're robot was of excellent quality as well. Those going to champs should note that this is no ordinary rookie. The bot can score with the best of them. Thank you 1985 for joining us on our Regional Championship run. Your bot peformed even better than at KC, and your extremely high shooting percentage got our scouts' attention. With a Chairman's award and WFFA award to boot you guys are the total package, set up for continued success for many years to come. 1208, you are a worthy opponent. When we saw you pair up with 1288 we knew we would need our "A" game to pull off a victory. 2783 was a great pick as well, with their defense and full court shots. The 52 points you collectively put up in the semi-finals definetly got our attention. 1987, we couldn't be more thrilled to see you return to Champs. Your Engineering Inspiration award is well deserved, and your whole team is a pleasure to work with. Our website people are currently looking at your site for ideas on how to better communicate in that medium. Best website at two regionals in the same year is quite a feat. Congratulations. |
