Re: 2012 Oklahoma Regional
I'm super excited for Oklahoma! The team list is looking to be pretty amazing, and the competition is going to be pretty darned competitive.

Re: 2012 Oklahoma Regional
Just a note to eveyone in attendance, Team 2410 will be teaming up with team 2004 the Thuderducks to host "Build OKC" a food drive to benefit the local community in Oklahoma City. For those of you who attended the Greater Kansas City Regional this year, you may remember the Build KC announcements in the pits, and off of the twitter feed. Due to the great results, we decided to do it again in OKC. Please help spread the word and let your sister teams that may be in attendance know.
Can't wait to see everyone there! |
Facebook and Twitter
Please tell everyone on your teams to be sure and “like” the OKC Regional Facebook Page – http://www.facebook.com/pages/Oklaho...11881829155and follow them on Twitter – www.twitter.com/#!OklahomaFIRST
There will be a lot of pictures and posts being made. In KC, they had some pretty funny tweets being sent out! |
Re: 2012 Oklahoma Regional
It was a busy day in the Cox center today! Not surprisingly, things started off a bit slow, but most of the practice matches were full by the end of the day.
The video archiving tests went well today, so I am optimistic that I will have all of the matches on YouTube (accessible from the webcast site) within ~30 minutes of each match being played. Hopefully this will be an extra plus for teams trying to replay matches and do scouting. |
Re: 2012 Oklahoma Regional
A huge thanks for putting together the feed and live archiving. As an 1540 alum in college, it's been really nice being able to keep up with the matches!

All of the awards from tonight are on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/botsnlinux
Congratulations to all of the teams who won an award tonight, and a special shout-out to my sister's team (#2359) for the KPCB Entrepreneurship award and my brother's team (#3937) for the Rookie Inspiration award! I think the "Play of the day" award goes to the teams in match 35: Not only was this the only match of the day with two robots on an alliance bridge, it had the most wild coopertition balance I've seen yet! |
Re: 2012 Oklahoma Regional
From all of us at FIRST team 1540, the Flaming Chickens, we just wanted to say that we had a fantastic time in Oklahoma! We flew in from Oregon on Wednesday, and have enjoyed incredible weather and hospitality for our entire stay!
At the competition, we were fortunate enough to win the regional competition and the Chairman's Award! This is a huge honor for us and we feel incredibly honored to have been chosen. We would like to thank our alliance partners, 3528 "Up Next" and 2395 "Ninja Monkeys." You guys were awesome and we had a lot of fun! |
Re: 2012 Oklahoma Regional

It was so much fun competing with your guys and we can't wait to see you at worlds in St. Louis! :)

Re: 2012 Oklahoma Regional
Representing Team 3507: It was a wild ride! We finally got all our electrical and mechanical issues fixed, and even had an effective arm (built in between KC and here), and it paid off. 8-2 isn't shabby at all. In any case, thanks to everyone who came for an awesome experience (OKC is amazing, I love the setup), and congrats to 3528, 1540, and 2395 on the win - though I wish we'd have been in your place. 5 seconds between us and a tiebreaker match... It would have been fantastic if we'd solved the range-finding programming problem so we could shoot from the key more effectively, but you can't argue with the most teleoperated points (According to FRC Spyder), I guess. (I'm really proud of our robot this year, can you tell?)
We've had an amazing second year, and we've gained a lot of valuable experience building such a competitive robot - including what we did wrong (practice field for autonomous and other programming jobs - necessary). I'm just a little sad that we couldn't give the seniors who joined this year a chance to go to St. Louis like we did last year - especially our drivers, who were also mechanical leads and really deserve some props. I'm thinking about seeing if some of us can go and just watch, though it'll be hard to get off school for that. Finally, it looks like I'll probably be attending Tulsa University, so I'll be glad to see everyone next year - this time as a college mentor! Go |_|botics! P.S. I was the one with the N7 hoody with the red and white stripes yelling my lungs hoarse. Spent all my time in the stands because I usually only go down when there's a problem with the robot - a welcome change. |
Re: 2012 Oklahoma Regional
Oklahoma Regional...wow what an amazing 5 days. (Went down on Wednesday, came back today.) Where to begin about it...first off, thanks to all of the teams and volunteers that made this regional everything that it is. So far, out the the 7 regionals I've been to, (3 Greater Kansas City, 2 Oklahoma, 1 Midwest, and 1 Atlanta Champs) Oklahoma is most definitely the most memorable regional places. From maintaining the pit order [I think? That's what I heard from 1742 (Shock what? ShockWAVE)] to 3507 being across from our pit and just chilling with them when both robots are out, it was amazing. The fact that it consistently ran ~10mins fast was both a blessing and a curse. Yay we got out of the arena early, but boy did it severely limit our prep time in between matches. The human vs. robot stuff was really interesting, and was something new I've never seen done, only though about. Oh, and the MC's were amazing. The way they worked in tandem made this regional into something special.
Speaking of special...a huge thank you to the Regional team for allowing me to ask my girlfriend to Prom on the field. To quote her, "that was the absolute best way to ask me to prom." Finally, congratulations to all of the teams who won awards here, especially to 1540, the Flaming Chickens for a well done competition. Flying all the way down from Oregon, sweeping the awards, and being all around friendly. We were in the running for Chairmans as well, but you absolutely smoked us with your program. (See what I did there? Flaming chickens...smoke...hehehe...) I can't wait to decide where we go next year, but I'm sure that we will remember all the great times we had in Oklahoma, both from 2010 when we won it all to 2012 when we rebounded from Greater Kansas City. |
