Re: An Inconceivable shot from beyond half court.
The GoPro's have their own plexy case, so not likely to become floor trash in a match. Especially if you can mount in a concave area of the bot. There aren't so many balls flying around near the bot that it would be taken out that way. But we saw many top-heavy tip overs where another bot's upper assembly could give you a heavy smacking on a bridge.
These matches are extremely intense. I was standing behind the driver on the field and didn't even realize we'd made this fantastic double shot. Field-level visibility was an element that we definitely under appreciated. Balancing goes pretty well when you only have a 15 foot tether and sit the driver right in front of the bridge profile. ...now try it again from the far side of the bridge from a driver station straight in line with the bridge. You tip the bridge and lose all visibility of your bot. ...unless your driver is about 8.5 feet tall. |
Re: An Inconceivable shot from beyond half court.
I used my Robot Inspector credential to watch one match this regional from behind the scorer's table - you guessed it, this one!
When I saw the shot, I saw the second ball and thought, oops! Then I saw the first ball go in for 3 and heard the whole crowd erupt. I didn't even realize the second ball went in the 1 point basket until I saw the video. This is definitely one of the most impressive things I've ever seen any of our robots do. I showed it to my class today and they erupted in cheering when they saw it! |
Re: An Inconceivable shot from beyond half court.
Amazing shot, and this video inspired me to add a wide-angle camera to our robot during this upcoming weekend's Los Angeles Regional

Here's one of the our team's videos (18 point autonomous, and we do a backflip off the coopertition bridge at the end): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atlI50Nl-zU Thanks again for the great idea! |
