I just logged on to see if someone had started a Waterloo 2012 thread- I was going to start one if nobody had but bochek beat me to it!

Just finished packing the car with tools - Can't wait!

6 robots just balanced (two on each bridge)! That's the first I've seen in all the regionals I've watched.

Wow, Waterloo must be interesting this year. I turned the stream on to see Karthik crawling across the field on his hands and knees.

haha I think they're running ahead of schedule, so they decided to introduce the last match in "super slow-mo" :P

Never seen Karthik as MC before but he's pretty great

Lots of elims-worthy matches already!

Re: 2012 Waterloo Regional

I have to say, watching the webcast, my new life goal is to go to an event MC'd by Karthik.

100% entertaining, amazing DJ, and great teams. This is on my hit-list of events to go to some day.

No other regional do I hear such a great playlist.

Re: 2012 Waterloo Regional

There is a student on my team who judges regionals by their playlist. ;)

I heard him introduce a team by their binary number. I think the team wrote it out for him, but it was still awesome.

The team did not write it out for him. He did it all in his head!

There is definitely some action going down at Waterloo! Definitelty going to be some interesting matches tomorrow. How do you think tomorrow will pan out? Will 3161 keep the #1 seed? Will 1114-2056 be broken up? Lots of quality robots competing!

Re: 2012 Waterloo Regional

Tronic Titans(3161) ranked number 1 at the end of the day!

I'm proud of are team (865) as we didn't do too bad either. We and 2 other underdogs manged to break 1114s winning streak at the regional.

It looks like 2506 is going to be split up from 1114 and will likely alliance with Runnymede Robotics.

If you really want to confuse the crowd, start introducing teams in hexadecimal. "Multiple regional winners, it's team 4-5-A!" Plus, you can tell all the rookies cause they have four digits.

They are leading, but just by a tiny margin. The air in the building was "electric" with the tension as this unfolded. Tomorrow will be very interesting.

Are you sure about that?
3161, 1114, and 1503 are all tied with a Qualification Score of 26.00. All three teams have 2 more matches to play tomorrow. 1114 will not play any of these two teams. 1503 and 3161 will be on the same alliance for their first match of the day.

1114 will only be facing one team tomorrow that is ranked inside the top 10.

My guess is that 1114 will win their two matches and 3161 will win at least one of the two. It will be up to the coopertition bridge.

Just an observation if 1114 does not alliance with 2056 by one of are members who have been watching comps since he was in kindergarten. So far his observations have been pretty accurate.

Re: 2012 Waterloo Regional

OPRNet is saying that 1114 will win its first match 38-14, but lose its second match 30-29. So they might have a bit of a battle.

3161 is predicted to win 50-25 and win 39-37. So both teams have matches that, at least by OPR, are going to be quite challenging to win.

1503 is predicted to win easily with 50-25 and win 29-12. So if we assume that that means two easy matches and all 1114, 3161, and 1503 will get maximum CPs, then it looks like 1503 may actually have the best chance of seeding on top because of the relative easiness of their remaining schedule. However, because of their relatively low hybrid points, they'll need both 3161 and 1114 to have a bad day hybrid-wise if it comes to a tiebreaker.

Since one of those teams is probably going to go 2-0 tomorrow and get max CPs it seems unlikely that anyone else can get it, but 1310 could nab that top spot if 1114, 3161, and 1503 all miss out on a win or some CPs and 1310 has a perfect day. 1310 is playing in the close match vs 1114, so if 1114 loses that match, it could elevate 1310 into contention. 1310 is projected to have a 29-29 tie and a 30-29 win, so they've got quite a tough schedule but maybe they could grind it out.

I'm not quite sure with what you are saying here. Are you saying that one of your members is observing that 1114 will not be on an alliance with 2056?

Let's hope that this doesn't turn into the Toronto situation, with various teams being put in the awkward position of choosing whether or not to Coop with other teams.

Also, where might I procure this OPRNet? I would love to use it for our teams purposes!

I love both 1114 and 2056 so I want to be clear I am not rooting against either team, I always root for both. However it would be incredible to see what happens if the two finally get split up for the elimination rounds. Imagine 2056's streak being put to the test in the finals against 1114, the team that helped them get this streak rolling. As a lover of watching matches it wouldn't get much better than that.

Re: 2012 Waterloo Regional

The air was electric yesterday at Waterloo. I have been game announcing there since 2007 and it is a very fun regional. However, Friday is usually boring, boring, boring. Not this year. The teams in Ontario are getting much, much better and have some real legitimate high contending teams at Waterloo. That is without 610, 188, and 1241 attending this year. I can only imagine what it would be like with them in attendance.

There have been no co-op bridge shenanigans at Waterloo as every alliance has made an honest effort to do the co-op bridge.

Since there are only 30 teams at this event, our schedule allows for 8 minute cycle times so we are doing some things to keep it interesting between matches. Watch the webcast and send tweets to @pcopioli and @kkanagas to make your requests for things you want us to do between and during the matches. Today is going to be fun!

Paul

The OPR/hybrid/whatever rankings start becoming accurate by about friday afternoon.

I've only watched the eliminations, but this has been a great regional to watch. Karthik's a great MC [I've actually learned about teams besides their names], the commentator's great, and for a small regional the quality runs pretty deep.

ALso, 1114-2056-4372 just banked 105 [with 41 point auto], which might be a new highscore(?) but have now just called a time-out. I wonder why.

Really enjoyed the story of coopertition around team 4372 in the finals (3:20). Arrived at 11am on Thursday with a robot that was 10" too big. Now they're regional champions.
