LIVE BROADCAST of 2012 SBPLI FRC Regionals

Hi there guys!

Just so you are aware, Team 871 has been broadcasting the SBPLI regionals since 2010. We announced today that we are broadcasting for everyone now, and the announcer stated, "For the first time in SBPLI history, this regional is being broadcasted! Head over to westisliprobotics.com for the broadcast!"

We were so thrilled. We had a total of 312 people watch our broadcast in a matter of an hour. So check Team 871's broadcast, and share it with others! Available at http://westisliprobotics.com/

Thanks for your time!
Good luck, as always!

While I have the utmost respect for the Robotechs of West Islip and for the video you shoot of the SBPLI Regional. The announcer was referring to the Live Webcast being done on Ustream by team 2641 from Pittsburgh.

The archived video can be found at:

Live webcast can be found on team 2641.com

While I also have the utmost respect for all other teams, I must mention that we have been broadcasting this regional for quite some time. Team 2641 from Pittsburgh seem to be broadcasting from the source going into or possibly diverting out of the projection being shown to the audience. This is a Pass-Through recording setup. While that is good for those who want to see the screen being shown at the Complex, Team 871 has a take towards showing the actual crowd, and the robots in action from a bird's eye-type view, not from what the cameramen are focusing on.

What I don't understand is why Team 2641 approached Team 871, and told them to stop their broadcast because they had the only rights to the broadcast. This regional has been broadcasted by Team 871 for 3 years now, with announcements made every year. So besides it being a place where someone has been broadcasting, I personally think that for a FIRST to stop another team from broadcasting a public event is to some extent out-of-line.

Team 871 and Team 2641 are apparently the only teams broadcasting from the SBPLI Regional, except one has been broadcasting for a longer amount of time. That still doesn't mean that the teams can't come together!

One team is recording the screen projections, and the other the actual crowd and pits, conducting interviews and such. The two could definitely come together, make it known as the SBPLI Webcast by Teams 2641 and 871.

What do you think? We could meet up with your team tomorrow.

:)

Interesting point. I'm not with team 2641, I'm just relating the story of what was announced. I think there's a place for BOTH temas to do what they are doing. Broadcasting the AV feed from the event is what is typicall done for a Regional Webcast. This way all the field action, awards and announcements are seen. Having different coverage from different points of view is not a bad thing at all!

As far as having "rights", well I'm not getting into that at all.........

Besdies, with MSG Varsity and all the other media outlets at the event there are WAY more cameras than I've seen here before!

Good luck today!

A/V is currently troubleshooting the feed for 2641's broadcast.
