Central Valley Regnional

I haven't seen an official regional thread about this yet, so I figured I would make one.

6 days and counting!
Who's excited?

I'm halfway through Silicon Valley, and I'm already thinking about Central! CVR is gonna be so much fun! 256 will be there, with our robot better than ever, and with all the bugs fixed!

256 will be short on man power at the regional, so would anyone like to share the scouting work? Thanks!

Good luck everybody!

I'm really excited, it looks like CVR will be very competitive with powerhouses like 1717, 973, 1538, and 254 in the house. I'm looking forward to being a part of it!

I don't think 1538 is going, unless I am mistaken. I didn't see their name on the First website.

To added to the list of amazing teams going: 330, 1678, and 1662.

Re: Central Valley Regnional

We'll have to add to this list but so far...

254 - Current World Champs, (won 21 out of 25 regional they've attended)

330 - 2005 World Champs

368 - Hawaii Finalist

973 - Current World Champs, LA Finalist

1662 - Israel Winner (1st seed)

1678 - Sacramento Winner (1st seed)

1717 - LA Winner

3189 - Sacramento Winner

3512 - LA Winner

3669 - Sacramento Finalist

3970 - Sacramento Highest rookie seed

This is looking to be very competitive. I'll post an update on Monday.

Sorry, you're right. I keep getting that mixed up in my head. 1266 and 1622 are the SD teams attending.

Re: Central Valley Regnional

No big deal I think you were thinking of 973 not 971 only one number different.

But 1671 is ready to "rumble", they scored 136 Hybrid Points in Sacramento higher than any team at the Silicon Valley Regional. They also have added a few more "tweaks" to the practice bot which will be implemented on the competition bot on Thursday (Won't be surprised if we go from a 90% 2 point shooter to a 3 point one). Not to mention they also have a triple balance up their sleeve, I know I am looking forward to watching them go up against the best of the best. :)

I count 36 teams that have competed at a previous regional. I count 6 regional champions, 4 finalists, 7 semi-finalists, and 5 quarter-finalists. 10 teams seeded in the top 8.

Re: Central Valley Regnional

Here's the updated list:

254 - SVR Winner, Hall of Fame, current World Champions, 22 regional wins

330 - 2005 World Champions, 10 regionals wins

368 - Hawaii Finalists, 5 regional wins

973 - L.A. Finalist, current World Champions

1662 - Israel Winner (1st seed), 3 regional wins

1678 - Sacramento Winner (2nd year in a row, 1st seed)

1717 - L.A. Winner, 5 regional wins

3189 - Sacramento Winner

3512 - L.A. Winner

3598 - Sacramento Finalists

3669 - Sacramento Finalists

3970 - Sacramento Highest Rookie Seed (5th)

Let me know if I missed anyone.

I'm excited.

Hey guys, I was thinking it would be cool to set up a meetup or something outside of the competition, and was wondering what hotels you guys will be staying at.

Team 254 is at

Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites - Chowchilla 309 Prosperity Blvd.Chowchilla, CA 93610 Telephone: (559) 665-3300 Fax: (559) 665-5597

Just an idea :D

Re: Central Valley Regnional

Team 1671 just finished testing the final modification of adding another camera onto the practice bot. Our drivers were not there yesterday at the shop (catching up on some school work I presume) so to make sure that the camera system worked we had two students who have never driven the bot before just grab the controls show them the buttons and let them drive. To make things even harder we had them drive from the side of the field so there was no way to tell that they were lined up except by using the camera systems. The results were incredible! They rarely missed a shot and when they did it was usually with a ball that had a deep gash in it (from earlier in the season).

Check out the video :)

No, their Ball pick-up/bridge manipulator would not stay up. They were outside the frame perimeter at the beginning of the match.

No air pressure?

63 points in penalties in Match 31. What did the blue alliance do to incur so many penalty points?

Yup. They continuously raised and lowered their bridge manipulator, almost like they were trying and failing to tip the red bridge. Feel sorry for 1717, who played a great match, just not enough to overcome 63 penalty points.

That should be a DQ, not just a disable, right? Did they change something (I read they did somewhere else) and, if so, was it inspected?

Nope, just a disable. [G01].

I'm pretty sure they'd have gotten inspected--failure to do so would give you and your entire alliance a red card if you made it to the field. [T03].

With 330 not that close behind. 1323 is close to 330 though.

1717 just has crazy range and flexibility around the whole field.

They're certainly making a case for it. Best part is where they're shooting from. The absolute corner of the key. It's amazing and leaves so much room for their partners to shoot from.

I've been VERY impressed watching 1717. Their robot reminds me of a stealth fighter. Sneaking around the field, delivering a quick and accurate payload, then they're gone before you even realize. It would be a shame if that 63 point penalty match costs them the #1 seed.

Their robot is an AMAZING machine and great to watch. Beautiful creation.

I believe that they are back to the number 1 spot as of now, just from a quick search on usfirst.org.

They are, by 7 hybrid points. However, the #3 and #4 spots have yet to play their 8th match, while 1717 and 330 (#2) already played their 8th. The #6-#8 seeds also have a chance by the same token. In case of ties in QS, 1717 does hold the first tiebreaker, though.

That final match.

EricH 07-04-2012 19:43

Re: Central Valley Regnional

I have to agree. 330 was immobile--blinking red light above the driver's station--after Hybrid. 1717 scores enough in the last few seconds to not only eliminate the deficit but negate a double balance while either 2102 or 1717 balances the bridge (unless 330 got moving suddenly), win by 11. That's got to be one of the best robots out there (not that you can't say that about the Penguineers every single year).

Finals 1-2 was the best individual performance by a robot I have witnessed all year. Coming out of Autonomous the score was 18 - 18. In autonomous mode, Team 330 was able to score 1 ball in the top basket and 1717 made 2 of the 3 shots they took. Right afterwards, 330 was immobile.

Team 1717 went on to make 18/18 shots they took during teleop  . The accuracy of this machine is what blows my mind. Of those 18 shots, 7 of them were in the last 30 seconds of the match.

In Finals 1-1, 1717 made 4/4 of Autonomous shots, and 12/12 teleop shots.

So of all the shots 1717 took in the Finals, they had a 97.2% shooting percentage (35/36).

--

1717 is not only the most accurate robot in FRC, 1717 is more accurate than any NBA player.

1717 is very impressive with their game this year. However, I think the most accurate robot is 1056 from Hawaii. They missed 1 shot in 17 matches and perfect in hybrid.
Their OPR was 28.xx meaning that they attempted a lot of shots.

The CVR archive will still be available on Justin.tv for a few days, but due to their usage rights they will be deleted after then. This is done automatically and we have no control over it.

That being said, we did record everything locally and are working on an archive for all of the webcast footage and will have it available within a week or so. It will be a section on our website and ill make sure I post it here when its up and running. There will be an opportunity to download all the footage as well as view it in browser.

Thanks to our alliance partners The Devil Duckies 1266 and Dark Matter 2643. Being 8th seed is always an uphill battle, but we definitely gave it a good shot, especially in QF 1-2.

Team 3256 would like to thank Andrew Schreiber and Stacey Lee for their quick inspection of our robot. We were a late coming into the regional (Thursday afternoon) as our students could not miss any more days of school.
They were extremely helpful with the inspection process and together we were able to get inspected in less than 15 minutes.

Additionally, we may or may not hold the record for the first entirely outdoor robot inspection, sans the weighing and measuring. :p

Congratulations to 1717, 330, 2102 for winning the Central Valley Regional!

1717 has now carried the load for their alliances in both finals appearances of very competitive regionals this year. It is one more bullet point in their list of dominating traits this year. They certainly bailed us out in the LA finals with our broken joystick and gyro reset issues. Definitely one of the best robots in FRC this year.

The championships just wouldn't be the same without the Beach Bots, so we're very happy that they qualified this weekend!!

Hahah Thanks Eugene! I was totally stoked to receive the award!

On behalf of 1323 and the Regional Planning committee, we would like to thank all teams for coming out and supporting this event. It was a fun event.

1323:

-1717 and Amir's crew is by far one of the best robots in the nation. Amir, you guys are truly a "PowerHouse". These guys built a beautiful robot that is a scoring machine. It was great talking to you guys and getting to hang out/learn from the best.

-330, I absolutely loved talking to you guys, glad I had the chance to talk to you guys. We spent half the time joking about building arms. Glad we weren't the only ones building arms this year..

-254: You guys by far our favorite team of the event. Thank you for letting my kids hang out and ask you guys questions. In the Elims, not only did some of the mentors help coach my kids, they helped us nail some programming down. By far one of the best Elimination/teams in FRC. Really was a pleasure playing with you guys. These guys are a class act.

People:

It was awesome to finally meet: Amir (1717), Sam & Shane (330) and Tom/Pat (254).

Looking forward to playing with you guys at champs,

-RC

The CVR was a blast can't wait to see what the future will hold for the area, I love the Central Valley it is truly an awesome place to live.

Congrats to all the alliances, the matches were tons of fun to watch, and I had a blast helping out at the practice field before the elimination rounds, everyone was able to have sometime on the field, and I could tell that it helped on the actual field. Can't wait to get more involved in the regional for next year.

I want to thank 1717 for taking time to talk to some of our CAD team and give them a hands on look at the swerve drive.

Team 330 is one of my favorite teams of all time and it was awesome to compete with you guys.

It was also great to get to know team 1678 a lot better, you guys were next to us at both Sac and CV, you guys have a great robot and I can't wait to see you guys again.

I believe there was an issue with the school firewall. The Tweeting feature was not tested early enough. Someone please do correct me if I'm wrong, I heard this second hand.

The Sacramento Regional wasn't Tweeting either. 604 talked to the field crew about it, who then called up Manchester and still couldn't resolve it. They later said it was a firewall issue. IMO, firewall seems unlikely since the webcasting computer could access Twitter (and because college campuses don't usually block sites like Twitter). But I don't know. =\

Please enjoy and thanks for a fun time in Madera!
