Re: The Best Team(s) to never win a regional
They've had some ups and downs recently, but I'd like to throw in my old team: 308 - the Monsters.
Accomplishments: World Finalist 2002 2 IRI wins (as alliance captain, not as 3rd pick or something like that) Multiple other off-season event wins About 7 regional / district finalist medals But still never actually won an official event. |
Re: The Best Team(s) to never win a regional
461 Westside Boiler Invasion. I think they have been finalists at least 6 times.

Re: The Best Team(s) to never win a regional
There are a pile of Canadian teams out there in this situation as the GTR and Waterloo regionals have long been dominated by 1114 and/or 2056 for many years. Many however have started heading south and have met with successes at foreign regionals.
854 has fielded some amazing machines in the past and for a couple years, lived in the top 8 but always lost out to the aforementioned. I remember Karthik introducing them one year during the finals as "the team that is always near the top yet something just doesn't quite work out-" |

There are a bunch of Canadian teams that have probably deserved a regional win, I'm glad that teams like 772 and 610 decided to go to American Regionals this year and got well deserved Regional Wins. It has been 10 years since 610's last and only Regional win... (that was pre 1114). The success of Canadian teams at American Regionals and at the World Championship speaks to how high the bar has been set in Canada by 1114 and 2056. |

I'd add 1741 to the list. Not as the best robot to never win a regional - they've had their ups and downs - but, as the title says, Best Team. RCA winners, multiple K-PE winners, fantastic students and supporters. |
Re: The Best Team(s) to never win a regional
I'll throw out a local pick: 1102. M'Aiken Magic is one of those teams that's a great group of people (2003 Peachtree Rookie All-Star, three Engineering Inspiration awards, one RCA), and is almost always in the hunt (2005 Peachtree finalists, 2010 Palmetto finalists, and a certain team from Greenville, Texas you might've heard of picked them at Championship 2007), but they've never been able to seal the deal in FRC. (We'll ignore that their FTC arm has been to the top of the mountain, winning the Championship a couple of years ago.)

Re: The Best Team(s) to never win a regional
There are plenty of teams that do great at Colorado and deserve to win. sadly, The only one of those that hasn't won is my own... Time to step it up a notch. :)
EDIT: i correct myself. 4387 Was a rookie this year who built their robot on Thursday and part of Friday and got second. I can't wait to see if they get to go up for FIRST in the future. |
Re: The Best Team(s) to never win a regional
I'd have to mention team 1323: MadTown Robotics.
Over the past 5 or so years, they've been building some pretty solid performing robots. And the regionals they frequent are pretty tough. SVR, Sacramento some years, they're even hosting CVR this week. It's tough being a California team :P |

1323 was extremely close to taking SVR last year IMO. If autonomous had worked for them I believe they would have had a gold. |

Re: The Best Team(s) to never win a regional
Has 2949 won a regional? I remember they had a huge upset over 111 and 1625 at Midwest in 2010 and have been an incredibly competitive and awesome team ever since.

Re: The Best Team(s) to never win a regional
As stated by several other members, 1718 deserves to win a regional/district. Their robot has always amazed me and I was shocked when I learned in 2011 that 1718 has never won a regional/district.
