Any CAD alternative options?

Hello all-

Before I moved, I had Autodesk Inventor available as a school resource. However, that resource was recently taken away because I had recently moved, and my school does not offer CAD/PLTW as a part of their school curriculum.

I'd like help more on CAD for my team, so are there any alternative resources where I can run CAD?

I have a computer capable of running Inventor, but I share this computer with my sister, consequently running out of memory required for Inventor. Does this mean I need a new computer entirely?

If you are associated with a school, you should still be able to get autodesk inventor through students.autodesk.com.

FRC teams can get it for free at the start of every build season simply by asking for it.

That was an option I was thinking on.

Do you know how long the software lasts? I read somewhere that it lasted for about 3 years or so (I am fairly sure that I am wrong).

It lasts a year. But since they put out a new version every year, you effectively have infinate time with the software.

Sorry, I wasn't clear before:rolleyes:, but I meant how long the software lasts on the computer before it expires? (i.e. 30-day trial, but seems you can renew with a serial number)

All Autodesk software initially installs in 30-day trial mode to give you a chance to get it running correctly before activating your free 3-yr student license.
Each year you can download new release so in effect you have a free student license for as long as you are a student.
