Congratulations to Perfection. Team 987

15 and 0 at Los Angeles.
17 and 0 at Las Vegas.

A perfect regular season in FRC. I'm in awe.

Congratulations for this miraculous feat! :ahh:

Good luck at Championships!

Absolutely wild. Has there ever been a team that has pulled off the perfect season including championship?

Re: Congratulations to Perfection. Team 987

I believe the closest was team 25 back in 2006 who went 31-0 in two regionals (NJ & LA) and then had their first loss in their 6th match at the championship.

Kudos 987!

EDIT: Forgot 1114.

I do not believe so. In 2009 Spartan Robotics 971 was undefeated in eliminations (with 1 tie), but was not undefeated overall.

Also a huge congrats to 987 for becoming the first team to win four WFFAs. You have some fantastic mentors who certainly deserve it!

1114 was the closest (to my knowledge) in 2010. They were undefeated in all three of their regionals (they did have two ties). They only lost one match on their division (which was the famous 29-0 match) and then went on to Einstein where the lost the two final matches. 987 definitely has the machine to go all the way this year.

I feel it's worth noting that 1114 only inadvertently lost on Einstein. Their Curie match was a "hostile 6v0" type match, so I wouldn't count it as a blemish on their record.

Congratulations to 987! Best of luck keeping that going at the Championship.

I think the answer to my question might be no. What about the legendary 71 2002 robot?

They lost plenty of matches. That robot was a winning robot, but not a qualifying robot.
If I remember correctly, the rankings were based on the losing teams score. Their strategy of grabbing all three goals didn't work well for qualifying matches.

I believe they also lost one of the finals matches on Einstein to 180 SPAM, but I could be mistaken.

In 2001 everyone was a winner (except for the audience who had to watch).

Ah yes, I remember that well. Not only was it their first loss, but we slowed them down so much that we had to score for them at the end in order to boost our ranking points. :)

It's funnier if you realize that it was impossible to lose a match...because that was the 4v0 year.

Hmm... I guess we "inadvertently" found a way to win it all in 2 matches :-) but yeah they had a great season and we loved working with them in 2011.

71 did not lose pleanty of matches in 2002. They won almost all of their matches but because the qualification score for the winning alliance was 3x the losing alliances score they would always score either 0 or very low. They did lose at Midwest against 93 in a qualification round when 93 was able to slam into the goal before 71 and lodged the goal into 71's robot essentially disabling their robot. Ahhh the days before bumpers....

Congrats though to the High Rollers. This is an amazing feat for an amazing team!

No links yet to our last match...as luck (bad luck) would have it, we had a system crash on the webcast computer less than a minute before the last match. I believe we have footage of the match somewhere and we will eventually post to You Tube I imagine. Basic reason for close match was inability of our partners to double balance as one of them tipped over while trying to balance during endgame.

Since at least 2002, only one team has gone undefeated at the Championship. Name the team & year.

I just posted video I took from the stands of Finals Match 2 on YouTube:

http://youtu.be/AInP_uZwlBU

It mostly focuses on the red alliance side of the field, but you can see both bridges. I've got another video one of our students shot from "courtside" that I'll get posted as well, but it doesn't show as much of the full court action.

Maybe someone from our friends on 2034 will be able to post video of the blue alliance for this match.

32-0 is no easy feat, especially since co-op points are needed to stay on top.

See you in St. Louis.

EDIT: Forgot 1114.

Team 25 actually came to Las Vegas, not LA, in 2006. They finished 1st seed and selected Team 987 as their first pick, so we were side by side on the field with them for the final six matches of their 31-0 regular season. Their 2006 robot is still one of the best I have ever seen.

Team 2485 has some footage of the blue alliance side. The match itself starts at about 0:30. Congratulations again to 987, 3245, and 2844; you guys were an incredible alliance and we were honored to come so close in the final match. Best of luck at champs!

See you in St. Louis.

Thank you all for the comments and congrats! We all feel honored to be mentioned in the same discussion with the incredible feats of such amazing teams and machines as Team 25's 2006 robot, Team 111's 2009 robot, Team 971's 2009 robot, and Team 1114's 2010 robot.

We were certainly fortunate to have had favorable match schedules in both regionals (a first in our 10 year history) and an amazing alliance partner in 1717 who covered for our glitches in the LA finals.

That being said, we think that the additions we made between LA and Las Vegas (drop down beater bar/ball collector and software tweaks which have vastly improved our scoring output) along with our veteran driver, Jake Mauro (76-8 FRC career record, 4 regional wins, 1 division win, 2011 IRI #1 pick), will demonstrate in St. Louis that we are worthy of our record this year.

Thanks again to all and we'll see you in St. Louis.
