1/200 chance of being first seed? I'll take it.

Orientation: unicorn swerve drive, so we prefer wide during triples (and our bridge manipulator is on the wide side)
Balance assist: no stinger, but
- Drivetrain brake - twist Colson Performa wheels perpendicular or caddy corner. The swerve also lets us stay straight even if pushed up off-center, as well as get around or through bridge defense or cause serious fouls against the defender.
- Harpoon arm - not our normal bridge-lowering device (~1min modular change), but if we're the 1st bot in a triple balance, it keeps us from falling off and allows us to hang halfway off the bridge in wide configuration. If we're middle, it can also be helpful to hold most 1st (or 3rd) robots on the bridge, should you desire an extra safety net. The harpoon will not damage your robot, but please make sure your bumpers are legal. :)
Triple Experience: 5/6 in the MAR finals. 1 done under heavy defense, 1 lost to heavy defense in which our alliance caused 24 points in fouls against the defender. (Capable at Horsham, but not needed.) Another 12/12 as middle on the practice field with 7 different teams. Another 2/3 as first robot on the practice field without our harpoon (1 loss of driver control).

Re: Newton 2012!

Team 3937 out of Searcy AR
Long bot
Drive - 6 wheel drop center west coast
Feeder -two stage feeder system for easy automatic loading
Can hold three balls
Shooter - dual 550 motor shooter
Can shoot in any goal
PID turret control for >180 degrees of movement quickly and efficiently
Three controls for shooting: automatic using an ultrasonic sensor, manual for simple pot control, feeder for defense
Bridge - dual pneumatic bridge lowerer
Lowers bridge and can feed bot at the same time to keep balls from rolling under bridge
Can flip the bridge both ways to remove balls without trouble if needed
Has balanced numerous single and doubles, haven't had the opportunity for a triple
Autonomous
Can shoot in top and middle reliably, can also back feed at time intervals from 0 to 10 secs based on what partners need.

Anyone know the MC for Newton this year?

Since Dan Green MCs wherever we go, it's probably him.

Chiniqua (Shiniqua?) usually does Newton, but I would like nothing more than Dan Green. Also, JonDarr.

Good luck to all the teams in the Newton Divison.

The pit map is out! Let's just say that Newton is closest to the bathrooms.

Where did you find the pit map?

Clayton Yocom 24-04-2012 07:53

Its only on the mobile app at the moment. Its in the android/app store under the name "FIRST Robotics". Pretty nifty.

Re: Newton 2012!

Team 1519 (Mechanical Mayhem, from Milford, New Hampshire) Robot Info:
  • Wide orientation robot
  • Drive: 8 WD, 6" Pneumatic Wheels (extremely grippy on bridge and carpet)
  • 2-speed transmissions; very low gear (~2fps) for fine control on bridge
  • Bridge Balance Assist: no specific mechanism; however, we designed our entire robot to optimize balancing. Can hang end wheels off of bridge with exceptional stability (see video below) so that only 17.5" of our frame is over the bridge surface. As seen in the video, extremely low gearing effectively serves as a drivetrain brake.
  • Bridge Balancing Experience: Don't just take our word for it -- see 1114's scouting database which lists us as the #1 balancer at both GSR and NCR. Performed more co-opitition balances at both regionals (GSR and NCR) than any other team there. Fast double-balances in all of our elimination matches (except GSR finals where robot failure took our partner away!)
  • Bridge Tipper: tip down on one side (normal approach); can also use robot to flip bridge up for partner on opposite side
  • Ball Intake: Two-sided (front and back), each 21.5" wide
  • Ball Storage: Three balls, controlled by sensors to avoid pickup of 4th ball
  • Ball Shooter: Single axle, camera-processed PID controls of shooter wheel speed, shooter exit angle (elevation) and turret direction to increase shot accuracy (recent software tuning has increased our accuracy since NCR)
  • Autonomous:
    • Tip co-op bridge w/ball pickup to score up to 5 high baskets. (Normally only balls available for 4 high baskets.)
    • Tip own alliance bridge if an alliance member has autonomous which can score balls from co-op bridge
    • Configurable shot times to avoid ball congestion with partners. (Two balls shot 1-2 seconds apart, with time of first shot varying from 2-13 seconds into hybrid.)
    • "Sit and Score" including "A-Bomb" modes (send or receive)
  • Other Capabilities:
    • Barrier crossing
    • Defense: High-traction drivebase for pushing (used this to great advantage during GSR elimination matches - yes we were the defensive robot!)
  • 2012 Tournament Performance:
    • GSR (Week 1): Finalists. #7 seed, most co-op balances of regional. Selected alliance partners of 885 and 2791. Went 5-0 in first five elimination matches against #2, #3, #1 seeds before catastrophic failure of alliance partner in 2nd finals match reduced our alliance to 2 robots.
    • NCR (Week 6): Winners. #1 seed, most co-op balances of regional. Selected alliance partners of 1311 and 2642.
  • 2012 Robot Video:

From what other people have been saying, it's only been released on the app, but has been posed in that forum for convenience.

Try this. It worked earlier for me, but is blocked from me at school. Maybe it will work for you. http://postimage.org/image/qg1w2l945/full/ This was posted in a different thread .. thanks goes to him ! (jyh947 from 3322)

Well Newton is playing out very differently than expected, just like other divisions. Anyone care to make new predictions at this point?

I'm confused what do you mean its not playing out as expected?
Do you mean 469 ?
1717 and 118 are seeded in the top 3.
