I look forward to seeing you, and your new team at St. Louis. You guys looked great in the finals match, with very accurate shooting, and your "shorty" robot is great for triple balances.

1741 is excited to be competing in the Curie division for the 2nd year in a row! We're excited to show off our dual-drive train on the world stage. See you all next week!

Up Next!, FRC Team [b]3528[b] is both humbled and honored to be a part of the Curie field in our 2nd trip across the state of Missouri to St. Louis. We are excited to play again with familiar faces such as 1986 and 525 as well as meeting new teams from across the country.

Our scissor-lift/dumping robot impressed the judges in both GKC and OKC by winning the Engineering Excellence & Creativity in Design awards. We can quickly pick up three balls and score 2 pt baskets from the fender or the side. Our 100% hybrid performance in GKC helped seed us as the #2 seed behind 1986 during week #1. In OKC we were the #1 seed and won the regional with some great alliance partners. You can see highlights from our performance in GKC http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCJqXsE4w64 We improved our ball gathering conveyor between GKC and OKC to be at least two times faster than what you see here.

We never had the opportunity to practice a triple balance during competition, but our driver is experienced in balancing the bridge and we hope to get the opportunity to try a few triples next weekend.

We look forward to seeing everyone in less than a week. Look for us in the pink shirts (but don't confuse us with the Pink Team). We are..Up Next!

Hey Curie,
You guys are SUPER lucky..... You guys have probably one of the best FTA's on your field as your FTAA. He (along with the great field crew) was able to start MSC 12 min late and get it up to running 30 min ahead. So he took a break for Dean to speak, and still got the schedule to ended 2 min early. To bad his partner in crime can't make it..... MI teams don't forget to give him a hard time :-)

I thought Galileo called dibs on Rob.

I guess I will have to swing by Curie and give him a hard time.

It's ok Clint, I don't get him either now. Just spoke to Rob he said he's been moved to Archimedes. I guess we both miss out on him!:(

Thanks, added them in! If anyone else notices any errors or omissions please let me know so I can fix it.

Definitely looking like a strong field with solid potential this year.

Re: Curie 2012!

Can't wait for the matches to begin!!

Here's a look at 461's new and improved robot:

Six wheel tank drive. 4 CIM's. Great pushing power and traction.

We can cross the bump.

We can tip the bridge down from behind, or push the bridge up from the front for someone else to get on.

Yes, we are a long base robot, but we have a center wheel drop and an extremely low and back CoG. Thus, we can hang about 17 inches off of the bridge, and still be soundly situated on 4 wheels. See our quadruple balance at 45's practice field here for more dynamics.

We are very willing to balance on the scoring bridge or co-op bridge, and can do both effectively and quickly.

Our shooting was about average at our two competitions, but at DC we discovered we had a Jaguar that was shorting. We have since fixed this and just yesterday we made 21 teleop-style three-point shots in a row without missing. We use a microsoft live webcam that we stripped of the IR filters and added a filter to only allow IR, and a beagle board off-board processing to not lag down the cRIO/processing (im not a programmer so my nomenclature could be wrong). This leaves us with an IR-based super accurate turreting shooter that won't be affected by outside lights or colors.

We have a lot of experienced mentors, ranging from previous members of our team to programmers studying currently at Purdue University to the Senior Mentor of Indiana FIRST as our lead mentor. We are very well known for always having a part someone needs, so if you break down in qualifications/eliminations, we're there to give you stuff. We even bring pneumatics even though we don't have any on our robot.

I (the strategist of the team) will also talk to all 5 teams before every match in qual's, so you can also guarantee a vast knowledge of our opponents and their game plans.

Good luck to everyone!
-Duke, FIRST Team 461

624 has won all its games except for when a catastrophic d/c occurs. We lost once because of our own d/c and twice from team 1477 unfortunate d/c when facing 359 and 118 leaving us at (30-3-0) from bayou and lonestar.
As a side note I might expect a second team-up with 1477 since we've allied for two eliminations and made finals on both. Good luck to all teams in Curie division, we look forward to seeing you guys there!

Re: Curie 2012!

While it is fun to speculate about who will win and which teams will align, it is just that, SPECULATION. Nobody truly knows what it going to happen, but it sure is fun to guess. As technically minded people we love to extrapolate data, but don’t forget that FIRST is also a sport. A sport filled with stories of underdog victories and heroic acts. There is not a single team in Curie, Archimedes, Newton, or Galileo that is just going to roll over.

As I read everyone’s posts, I am reminded of what my son said to me after the 2008 season. It was his rookie season and I asked him what impressed him most about FIRST. He said, that FIRST made him realize how, “TEAMWORK CAN OVERCOME AMAZING ODDS”. I know I will be reminding my team about this fact, as they take to the field on Thursday.
Best wishes to everyone that is traveling to St. Louis.

Re: Curie 2012!

Team 58, The Riot Crew will be there with our robot Betty White the Pelican Terminator. We won the BAE Granite State regional along with our alliance partners team 131 and team 1831.

Our robot Betty has a 100% accurate autonomous mode capable of scoring from either side of the key or the center. Our mecanum drive train allows us to easily get in position for scoring and our retractable 5th wheel easily allows us to balance the bridge. It also prevents us from getting pushed around. Our mecanum drive train also allows us to easily be the middle bot in a triple balance. Our arm allows us to score 3 balls 99.9% of time. Our new and improved bridge arm allows us to cross the bridges with no problem.

For more information on Betty visit riotcrew.org

Below our some videos of Betty at the BAE Granite State regional finals.
