Kinect not behaving

Hello -

Our Kinect was working during a week 0 scrimmage in CT. On day 1 of the WPI Regional, our driver's station computer crashed. Now that it's repaired, I'm having issues getting the Kinect to work with it.

I've installed the beta2 x64 SDK and the Kinect Server. When I connect the Kinect and click the refresh button in the Driver's Station, it quickly flashes "Kinect Timeout", and a window pops up saying "Please insert a Kinect Sensor into your PC". Both of these quickly go away, and the DS reports "No Kinect"

Any ideas?
Thanks, Dom

Re: Kinect not behaving

I assume the Kinect light on the DS Diagnostic Tab is not green.

Try running the Kinect Server in debug mode to see if you get other information (under Program Files\FRC Kinect Server).

Have you tested the Microsoft Kinect apps installed with the SDK?
Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Kinect\v1.0 Beta2\Samples\bin\Microsoft Skeletal Viewer-WPF

If the Microsoft stuff works then an uninstall/reinstall of the Kinect Server is called for.

If the Microsoft stuff fails, then an uninstall/reinstall of the SDK might help, or there might be other services/tools required that your PC might be missing or have mismatched versions of. You can check under Start->Control Panel->System and Security->Device Manager->System to see if there are three Kinect entries and all are enabled.

The light is grey, not green or red. Sorry for that oversight.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled both the SDK and the Kinect Server a number of times. I've also uninstalled and reinstalled the NET 4.0 framework. I'm going to run the Kinect Server in debug mode now.

I ran the Kinect Server in debug mode, and just got a blank window.

I reinstalled both the SDK and Server, checked under Devices/System, and there were no entries for the Kinect.

Then it seems to be a Microsoft installation issue.
The SDK should have given you these three devices under Microsoft Kinect:
  • Microsoft Kinect Audio Array Control
  • Microsoft Kinect Camera
  • Microsoft Kinect Device
If they are totally missing, then uninstall the Microsoft Kinect SDK, reboot without the Kinect plugged into the computer and reinstall.

Do you have Visual Studio 2010 installed? Like you'd get from Visual C# Express.

I've reinstalled Visual Studio, which let the Kinect Skeletal Viewer function properly. However, the DS won't pick up the Kinect. I've reinstalled the Kinect Server multiple times. Ideas?

Now that CMP is out of the way, is there anyone that can help?

I am having the same problem to the letter i have tried re-installing all of the software multiple times on different computers, nothing has worked. I tryed recompiling the frc kinect server in c# 2010 and it says that it cannot compile files of this type. So far nothing has worked it would be greatly appreciated if someone posted a solution!
