The fastest way to get over the hump...

I think these guys found the fastest way to get over the hump, or anything else for that matter....

Such a cool robot. I want one.

I think 86 should bring back their 2010 bot.

That was 1102's first year at the Orlando Regional, it was the greatest robot to watch I had ever seen.

This is amazing. I am still excited on how high it could jump:ahh:

I love the little popping noise it makes when it jumps. It's the little things that keep me entertained...now to figure out how to design and build one of those for our robot before tuesday night...

Minibot on steroids!

Re: The fastest way to get over the hump...

Too bad the minibot had to be physically touching the pole in order to win the race. Would have been nice to just build a small platform on the robot for ours to leap from...

Does anyone know what that bot uses to jump like that? I think it's some sort of linear actuator (probably a solenoid), but does anyone know for sure?

Let's hear it for high impact plastic wheels!

Dr. Bob

Chairman's Award is not about building the robot. Every team builds a robot.

If you look at the first few seconds of the video, you can see what looks to be a rubber knob, so you're right that it's most likely a solenoid. Plus when it's in mid air, you can hear a slight 'click' sound, which is when it retracts.

As to how it all works together, I have my guesses, but nothing actual.

Hmmm...four giant wheels. What a great idea. ;)

I still think some teams are a bit faster ;)

I heard it uses a CO2 cartridge.

It's a pressurized CO2 powered cylinder.

Yeah, it's supposed to get about 25 jumps before needing a new cartridge.
