Re: paper: MARC 2012 Rule Changes

I have a question regarding the following.

Quote:

[G13]: Basketballs may not be intentionally placed out of bounds. Basketballs that inadvertently exit the side of the Court will be placed back on the Court approximately at the point of exit, at the earliest safe opportunity, by Court staff. Basketballs that inadvertently exit the Court over the Alliance Station Wall will be placed in the Corral.
Violation: Foul
- Rationale: The Robot missed the Basket and shot the Basketball over the wall. It makes sense to give control of the Basketball to their opponents, not put it back on the field in a place where it can be recovered and shot again.
If Red alliance was already holding the maximum number of balls without inbounding and Blue alliance shot 3 balls over the wall, and the new rules put the balls in the Corral, will the Red alliance receive penalties if they don't inbound 3 balls quick enough?

I like that most of the rules are the same as competition. Such as alliance selections and Seeding. Though I may not agree with all the regulation competition rules.

Good lock to all competing at MARC.

Will their be a webcast?

A webcast would be nice. Or a FIRST in Michigan archive on their youtube channel.

There has been a webcast every year I have been involved with MARC. I can only assume that it will be the same this year.

If Steve wants us to help archive the matches from MARC, we would be more then happy to help. We might even want to try out some new equipment.

No more than they would be penalized if Blue shot 3 quick baskets. Remember, Blue can't cause Red to commit fouls (except G28). So Red gets a reasonable, but short, time to enter the basketballs back onto the field.

I can appreciate the clarifications and tweaks to the rules, especially the address of rules concerning stingers. The game will be played here much like it was the rest of the season, and considering the very watchable nature of the game all season long, I'm looking forward to attending MARC again, this year!

Looking into this right now. It would be a good excuse to use my brand new scale. (THINK, THINK, THINK) Get back to you shortly on this.

The event will be webcast just like the past few years. Clinton, if you want to come and try-out some new equipment and archive the matches, then that would be great and I am up for that.

Excellent. Well played.
Quote:

[G25]: Robots may not contact or otherwise interfere with the opposing Alliance Bridge.
Violation: Technical-Foul for consequential contact or for any contact in the final 30 seconds; Foul for inconsequential contact prior to the final 30 seconds
You realize this invites teams to 'steal' basketballs from the opposing alliance bridges, right? Or would that be considered "consequential contact"?

Of course it's consequential. That's why we left it in.

"Just because I look dumb doesn't mean I'm not." Oh wait, that didn't come out quite right ...
