Team 967 should be able to attend this event, and we are looking forward to our first ever off-season event. This event should feature a great field of teams. Maybe this will give us a guess at just how tough the 2012 Kansas City regional would have been as a Week 5 or 6 event full of teams with competition experience already under their belts.

Event schedule is here.
Looks like they are aiming for a 5:00 end time, including awards.

Many of us will have new drive teams that are just getting used to the speed of competition. On occasion key members of a team may graduate and those left behind struggle with maintaining the robot and its programming. And then there will be those surprises where the robot and drivers have actually improved over the summer. Either way it is a great event and seeing our out of state friends like 967 make it even more special.

As of 9/24 we have 47 FIRST FRC teams registered. We have also just opened the registration for 16 FIRST FLL teams for a 3 round scrimmage. We are looking forward to hosting all the teams competing and haveing a great time. Rule changes will be updated on CTTD webpage soon. Email for option of pre-ordered meals will be sent to coaches soon.

This is a crazy idea I had, am would like to propose.

At CTTD, I would like to put together a "Robot Style" (Gangnam Style Parody) video. This would mostly consist of me and some others dancing through the pits and stands, and some robot footage at the "ayy, sexy lady" part, but I would like for maybe a big group of many different teams to do the ending scene, where there are many people Gangnam-ing (This could be done in a Hotel, or maybe the arena, although I do not know the specs of where we are competing.).

This is just a concept, and might not fall through, but I think it would be an awesome and fun chance to meet many people and produce a fun FIRST video.

Edit: PM me if you are interested

The rule changes / refinements for the 2012 IRI are pretty simple.

1. +5 pounds allowed. Honor system, unless the referees question you.

2. No Co-Op points. Ranking based on win-loss and the existing tie-breakers.

3. Alliances may balance 3 on their alliance bridge during qualifications. Three robots balanced is worth 40 points.

4. Draft is 1 - 8, 1- 8, 8 - 1. Alliances select their own backup. Use of the back-up is at the discretion of the alliance.

All other rules will be per the 2012 FRC rules as interpreted by the referee crew.

Perhaps Luke Orr has some inside information being a member of the host team. As far as I can tell the blurb on the web page was put up before IRI, and is fairly noncommittal on which of those changes (if any) CTTD will follow. Here's the blurb for those who don't want to follow the link.

FIRST and the Game Design Committee did an excellent job creating rules for the 2012 game, Rebound Rumble. At the Cow Town Throwdown, we've had the luxury of experiencing not only the official Rebound Rumble rules through a complete season but also some exciting rule changes implemented for the Indiana Robotics Invitational off-season event this past July. These rule changes were developed by a group of award-winning FIRST mentors and officials and proved to make Rebound Rumble even more exciting than the regular-season game. Keep following this page for more information on 2012 Rule Changes.
IRI was full of robots who were part of successful triple balances. CTTD is not. I imagine many of the teams attending could make a minimal footprint drivetrain if they were given enough notice that we are indeed following the IRI changes. Could be a great idea, especially for those teams whose ball scoring mechanism didn't work out.

About a week a go Rex mentioned the update would be out soon, which probably means the committee was meeting or had already decided.

PS. I am not on the committee, and have no inside information.

The field of competitors for this year's edition of the Cowtown Throwdown is impressive. I wish I could make it to KC as a volunteer or spectator, but my day job calls me out of the country that weekend.

The Bomb Squad have owned every Rebound Rumble court, starting in KC. Can anyone stop them?

By my last calculation, our 2012 competition robot has traveled almost 9000 miles in the trailer, a shipping crate, or the back of my SUV. Its last several outings have been with me letting hundreds of Arkansas students and teachers operate it and television appearances. There may be nothing left to stop!

Just use the same description we always used for old boy scout uniforms...they're not worn out, they're "experienced."

We won't be there this year, but next year is definitely a possibility!
