I think we just have our drive team (1 driver, 1 operator, 1 coach, 1 human player), 1 or 2 mentors, and whatever other students legally fit in a van. Not exactly the ideal scouting crew.

I've got some pre-event scouting done (Season record, event(s) attended, individual event record(s), awards/positions won/held) and working on average match score. It's slow work when you don't know how to parse TBA data with a program. :/

As the days count down, I am excited for this years ThrowDown. Sorry I've been in a rhyming mood since last night. The email I sent out to the FLL teams were riddled with them.

With that being said, please feel free to swing by the cafeteria on Saturday between 9am and 12pm to watch this years FLL challenge. I have also invited 2 JFLL teams to attend so everyone can see what that program is about also.

I will also have a RFP form for local teams that would be interested in possibly hosting one of our JFLL Round-ups this year.

Just wanted to offer up our help for any teams that will be a bit short on people-power especially during that first night of competition. We should have several students there and we would be happy to share scouting data (one caveat: some of our scouts are new to this). Also, if you just need someone to help set up or move stuff around, come by and ask us. Look for the team in the killer bunny hats - 1939.

See you there. Looking forward to it!

Just wanted to let teams know that the Kuh-nig-its should have a couple of extra team members around on Friday evening for any of you who may be a bit short-handed. We are happy to share our scouting data (with the caveat that we are breaking in a few new scouts). Or, if you just need a hand, help moving something, or setting up, feel free to come and ask us. We'll be the ones in the killer bunny hats - Team 1939.

Looking forward to seeing you all there!

Just ask a member of team 1094 and we can get you a copy of the data

The stream is now up on the CTTD website, If part of your team is unable to attend or you have family that won't be able to make it, share this link with them. So glad we are able to stream this year. I am so excited.

At CTTD, I would like to put together a "Robot Style" (Gangnam Style Parody) video. This would mostly consist of me and some others dancing through the pits and stands, and some robot footage at the "ayy, sexy lady" part, but I would like for maybe a big group of many different teams to do the ending scene, where there are many people Gangnam-ing (This could be done in a Hotel, or maybe the arena, although I do not know the specs of where we are competing.).

This is just a concept, and might not fall through, but I think it would be an awesome and fun chance to meet many people and produce a fun FIRST video.

Edit: PM me if you are interested

If your looking for some ideas or inspiration, the Gangnam Style parody from the kids at MIT is a great one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJtHNEDnrnY&

Bomb Squad v. Titanium in the finals -- no surprise. 1986 alliance looked very strong winning F-1.

Cotton-Eyed Joe while we wait for F-2 ....

And Blue takes F-2....

Well played Titanium and alliance, esp. 1094 Channel Cats. Good shooting and nice bridge work in both finals matches.

Re: 2012 Cowtown Throwdown

Time now for the Thank You's:

To Team Driven: Thank you so, so much for holding this competition. The facilities were excellent, and the help was amazing. The step into a bigger facility to hold more teams was an excellent idea and made for some interesting competition.

To Team 1802: You were an amazing first pick and were just spot on the game. Your defense on the other side helped out more than you can imagine. Your balancing in our first match was definitely a saving grace. I thank you immensely for that.

To Team 3928: The showing you put on during Eliminations clearly showed everyone why you earned your Rookie All-Star award. Your over the bumper collection system paired with your pioneered swerve drive are a deadly combination. I personally believe that you are the Midwest equivalent of Team 4334. You are definitely going to be a strong contender wherever the wind may take you.

To Team 1710: Wow I'm amazed that we managed to snag you as a backup robot. Definitely a dark horse of the competition. You put on a strong show during competition, and we take full responsibility for being unable to push you back over that barrier.

*Edit: And yes Aaron Koscielski, this is my 77Who! post.

Alliance Selection: (Order was 1-8, 8-1, 1-8)

1. 16, 1982, 3612, 1775 F
2. 1986, 1094, 3172, 3284 W
3. 3528, 1806, 1985, 3485 SF
4. 2410, 1802, 3928, 1710 SF
5. 1997, 931, 1108, 2874 Q
6. 935, 2345, 938, 1987 Q
7. 1730, 2346, 1810, 1939 Q
8. 3784, 3862, 1737, 937 Q

Thank You Cerner, Lee's Summit High School, and Ruskin High School for putting on a fantastic off-season event. The volunteers were great, and the quality of the experience was nearly as grand as the Kansas City Regional.

To our partners: 1094, I can't believe this was your first event win. With the quality you guys put on the field every year this was long overdue. You helped us make double balancing look easy, and your autonomous was spot on. You were the top team on our wish-list and more than lived up to the expectations the scouts had when listing you so high. 3172, you owned the defensive side of the field. Your bridge tipper allowed you to cross the barrier efficiently and once you arrived the fender shooters were at your mercy. Picking up the loose balls was no pick-nick for the other offensive robots either. 3284, your strategic advice between rounds was very valuable, and it was a great comfort knowing we had a team with such a winning pedigree in the wings supporting us.

To the alliances we faced:
Quarters : 1730, 2346, 1810, 1939 Your autonomous in the first quarterfinal was super impressive, creating perhaps our closest match of the elimination rounds, and forcing us to change our own autonomous strategy.

Semi-Finals: 3528, 1806, 1985, 3485 After champs we didn't want to see Up-Next on the opposite side of the field again. Seeing 1806 start to hit shots more consistently didn't give us any comfort either. 1985, we can't believe you fell that far in the draft... almost far enough.

Finals: 16, 1982, 3612, 1775 Facing a World Champion, especially when they have a partner on their alliance that they teamed up with earlier to give us our only loss in qualifications, did get our strategy team fired up. This time we had the defense to make the difference. 1982 was a great pick, and one of the most consistent shooters in the entire field. 3612 and 1775 both had the potential to make big plays.

This was the last tournament for our Rebound Rumble Robot, and while it may have some life left as a STEM ambassador, the team can't wait to see what the GDC has in store for us next.

Re: 2012 Cowtown Throwdown

Up Next had a blast at CowTown ThrowDown. Thank you so much to Cerner, Lee's Summit High School, Ruskin High School and all of the volunteers. After being shut out of last year's event due to it reaching maximum capacity at the Cerner facility, we were so looking forward to competing this year. We don't know how we got so lucky to have our pit located right in the gym, but thank you to whoever placed us there.

It was so much fun facing off against teams we hadn't seen since week 1 last year in KC and those we faced in the Championships. We broke our bridge tipper in the semi-final round on Curie and have spent the better part of the summer/fall replacing it. We were relieved to see it held up through this one final competition.

Many thanks go out to our alliance partners 1806, 1985, and 3485. Our scouting mentor has been impressed with 1806's autonomous and shooting abilities all year after playing with/against you in both KC and OKC. 1985, we too were really surprised you were still available in the draft when our turn came back around again and were glad to get you before 1986 did ;)

To our opponents in the quarterfinals: 935, 2345, 938, and 1987
After playing with RaileRobotics in the the qualification rounds, we knew you could be a real offensive threat. K.A.R.S. has played against us in both KC and OKC, so we figured they would come across and play the tough defense they gave us in OKC.

Facing the 1986 alliance with their partners 1094, 3172, and 3284, we knew we had a tough battle ahead of us. That pesky defender 3172 did an effective job of keeping us from scoring. Team Titanium has set the bar pretty high for Rebound Rumble. We came up just in their shadow in KC and now at CTTD, but will savor those Curie quarterfinal matches for a very long time.

It was a real honor to play with and against the World Champion Baxter Bomb Squad. You have built an amazing machine and it is so much fun to watch that robot easily maneuver every challenge presented in Rebound Rumble. We are looking forward to traveling to the Razorback Regional to see what you have created for the 2013 game.

Finally, thank you to all the teams who voted for Up Next 3528 for the Cerner Industrial Design award. We had so much fun thinking outside the box with our scissor-lift, dumping robot. We have been very proud that "Wilson", our robot, has served us very well this season.

Looking forward to 2013!
Sharon

I would like to thank the planning committee and all the volunteers, Cerner and Team 1730 for such an awesome event. Our team really enjoys off-season events, and we had a great time at this one!

We were pleased to be selected by Team 1986 as their first choice as an alliance partner. We knew we were consistently scoring, but were not ranking as high as we had hoped. The competition itself was inspiring for our students, especially the rookie team members, and the win on top of that is just awesome!

It was a great competition and I want to send a big thanks to all that worked to make it such a smooth running event. I'm sure we'll be back again next year!

DeAnna
