That's not a typo, it's tradition. 12/31, most people are going to be celebrating the end of the year that evening. So instead of drafting that night, we draft the next day.

Draft running: I'm available as a backup on districts, unless the draft happens on Tuesday night or Wednesday night. I don't think I can make the time to run a non-district event without moving the time up an hour or more.

However, I will maintain the team list and the waiver list--I'm trying to think how I'd pull an opt-out into the waivers for people that don't think they want to use that part of the game. (Probably it would just be a "let me know that you won't normally make a claim, and I'll bypass you when running through--but once you make a claim, you're in" system.)

So I just want to get clarification on being involved in drafts.

Garrick and I are both college students. I work and mentor a team. Garrick... Well, I don't know what Garrick does these days. I know he plays Quidditch. So that's something.

My point is, free time between us is going to be strapped tight. I remember reading we're allowed to send in lists ahead of the draft. That's still a thing, right? Is there a maximum to the number of times we're allowed to do this? Since time between us is going to be so limited, it would be extremely convenient to be able to make lists when we have time and submit them in the event neither of us can make the draft. I just want to make sure there's no limit to the number of times we can do this.

Also, I remember reading that we can just tell the draft runner to just give us teams from the random list. If we do this often, are we considered as neglecting our drafting duties? I'm prepared to take on the above plan if there is no limit to it, but I'm sure there will be times where even that will fall through. If we ask to be given random teams often, are we up for being kicked from the league?

Lists: Send 'em in, send 'em in, send 'em in. If you don't know who's running a draft, send them to Ed, myself, and any known draft runners. There is no maximum number of lists you can send in. (Well... I suppose we could say that the maximum is 3x the number of drafts... one list per pick, in other words. Anybody actually doing that has way too much time on their hands, though.)

Telling the draft runner you want random teams: If you tell the runner that you want random teams, it counts as being present. However, I would be wary of doing it more than three times in a row as it's easy for us to think that you're slacking. Incidentally, after draft runners finish a list, any remaining picks for the team who sent the list are automatically random teams.

2013 Season Long Fantasy FIRST Waivers
 

I mentioned the waiver system a few posts ago; I've now started the thread to handle claims and award teams.

This started a couple years back and has seen some heavy use. Short version, if a team becomes available after a draft for any reason (adding to the event, "owning" group dropping out, being dropped in favor of another team from the pool), they go to waivers. In most cases, there's a little bit of post-draft leeway, running to midnight the night of the draft; exception is the selecting team dropping out. Highest on the list to make a valid claim gets them and goes to the bottom of the list.

A valid claim has the team(s) being claimed, the event and tier they're being claimed at, and what team(s) would be dropped in the event of the claim being awarded. If multiple teams are claimed, the order you'd like them awarded (and/or dropped) in should also be included. I do issue reminders if you forget anything.

One thing that would help out a lot later is if people can help score the events. I'll put out a spreadsheet before Week 1 that has all the scoring built in--download, fill in for your favorite event, and get it back to me somehow. I'll input the information and tabulate the scores, post, and we'll be on our way to the next week.


Oh, one thing I forgot about drafts: It's OK to miss one or two here and there. We understand, you're busy. That's why 5 misses in a row is the criteria to get a warning PM (sent to the whole team) and missing the draft after that results in the boot. Be warned, though: With most days being 2 drafts, that's only 3 days most of the time. (We'll cut some slack on the 5th/6th if they're the same day--but the next day, show up to at least one draft for at least one pick, or you'll find all of your teams on the waiver list!)
