If you go to www.firstchampionshiphousing.com and click on "Regionals" and then select "FRC" from the list, it will show you the list of 2013 regionals whose dates and locations have been confirmed. If you click on a regional it'll tell you the dates and venue. There's a handful that have already been confirmed. I heard that all the MAR events have been confirmed but there's no district events listed as of yet.

Looks like Queen City (housing website) and Wisconsin (venue website) are both on Week 4. That will be an interesting decision for us.

If NCR really gets bumped to week three I'll be so disappointed. I loved the simplicity of the Dorton Arena, the atmosphere, and the variety of teams. 422 can't turn down a regional two blocks from our school in VA, so I can see my old team putting the feelers out for a Week 5 or 6 regional within a few hours of home.

Here is further evidence that the NC regional will be week 3 (14-16 Mar).

This sucks-- VA, NC, and Peachtree will probably be all the same week.

Assuming these dates hold up I see a lot of negotiating with our building administration over field trip dates, especially considering Champs is the week before AP exams if we qualify.

I have seen the discussion about AP exams and whether the FIRST Championship affects the students' preparation. I believe that if the student knows the material from studying throughout the year he or she should be able to do fine on the tests. You should read this thread. http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...champions hip

Also, the Arizona Regional must have been renamed the phoenix regional. I believe they did this because Arizona FIRST was hoping to host a regional in Tucson this year, but it didn't go through. You can remove the Arizona regional from the list.

Can someone clarify the MN regionals?
Is there a new one during week 2 in addition to the 2 already planned tentatively for week 3?
Or did one of the previous MN ones become replaced with the Northern Lights one?

Since we cannot go to the Alberta one during week 6 (Hawaii regional) , it looks as though week 2 and 3 in the same city would both be cost effective and a great place for snow activities for our students.

Thanks, everyone for providing information on when a lot of the regionals are. Now I only have 10ish permutations to work through, rather than 100s.

There will be four regionals in MN this year. 10,000 lakes, North Star, The Northern Lights Regional and Lake Superior regional. In previous years North Star and 10,000 lakes have been during week 5. It doesn't make sense that Lake Superior and Northern Lights would be in different weeks though. It doesn't sound right because I'm pretty sure the whole reason they were adding the Northern Lights regional was they wanted to have two regionals at the same time in Duluth.

The last time I talked to the volunteer coordinator, I was told that it was going to be a double regional. I haven't heard of this changing in the last few months since I last talked to her.

Re: 2013 Predicted Events Calendar

I imagine that the housing calendar got pulled as soon as FIRST HQ realized (from this thread) that it was inadvertently put up. That's happened before, too.

Last year they didn't get all the contracts squared away and the dates officially blessed and published until two days before Registration opened.
Even then San Diego threw them for a loop at the end of October after teams had already registered and had to change venues, as well as weekends.

In most years FIRST always tries to get the dates published by mid-September. It's just that the contract signing rarely goes as expected and gets delayed or the dates move or the venue has to move.

FIRST has started publishing the Local Kickoff venues and info.

I am not sure if you have this in this thread yet.

Seattle is going from a double regional to a single regional. :(

There is a new "Central Washington Regional," though I am not sure where it is located.

•Portland March 6-9 (64 teams) (week 2)
•Central Washington (52 teams) March 20-23 (week 4)
•Seattle Century Link (64 teams) March 27-30 (week 5)
•Spokane April 3-6 (52 teams) (week 6)

Good question. Just an observation - last year, Pittsburgh was Week 2 and the university's spring break coincided. I don't know if that is customary or a coincidence. This year, their spring break is Week 3. Gotta wait and see.

Week 3 is OGT testing for us, and typically off limits as a competition week.

Week 2 for us is a big Band competition weekend in Ohio and we usually lose a lot of students and like you said Week 3 is OGT's. It isn't off limits just exclude's the sophomores from attending.

The one in Manchester doesn't show up where you're looking because it isn't a Local Kickoff. It's The Kickoff.

Speculating is fun! :D

Last year was not on BU's Spring Break- we had many BU students sign up to volunteer.

The four finalized MAR district events posted by FIRST match up with the dates posted by MAR here. The difference is that the dates on the FRC blog cover two days, which is sometimes shifted to include the setup/practice day (or maybe match up with the FiM events, since they're listed together?). So far the Springside/Chestnut Hill district is the only TFS event, but the not-yet-finalized TCNJ event is expected to be TFS as well.

My best guess would be that you're right and the dates on the blog were shifted to match the MI districts (as Joe said, to save typing), but I was just wondering if there was official confirmation of that, since the official FIRST calendar isn't updated yet (only shows 2012 events).

The goal is to always stagger events close to each other while balancing the number of events each week and fitting within the venue availability. A very tough thing to do and Why FIRST doesn't publish the calender early.

It's largely based on when dates work out with venues. Milwaukee and Chicago were the same weekend last year.

Kansas City and St. Louis fall on the same week for the first time ever this year. Could impact the strength of both events. Kansas City might have more room for out of town talent for those looking for a week 3 event with their second registration.

Interesting graph for which regionals fill first for the2010 season.

More recent information from 2012.

Could be an issue for us as well. Week 3 is the start of spring break and we don't usually schedule regionals at either end of spring break due to conflicts with student vacation travel, band trips, etc. I'd hate to miss Kansas City - it's a great event.

Hmm, Manchester and WPI run back to back this year, and I believe WPI is going to be a full regional now that their new recreation facility is done. But Boston's the same weekend that it was last year, so that's nice. :)

I think the biggest factor here was the location for the next regional in Texas. Lots of West Texas teams made the trip to either Dallas or Alamo last year. Lubbock also gives Eastern New Mexico growth a better chance to happen.

Being centrally located here in Austin, we have lots of choices for the teams in our area to attend already.

Excited to see the schedule though.

Do you know where in Irving, the tournament will be and if it will be a double again?

With a cap of 54 teams, it looks like a single field only. According to the event list, it'll be at the Irving Convention Center on Las Colinas Blvd.
