Though with Wisconsin separated from Midwest this year, we might end up in Milwaukee as well. But that's just me speculating. |
Re: Which Regionals/Districts?
973 plans to do;
Week 1 - Central Valley Regional Week 4 - Los Angeles Regional Week 6 - Las Vegas Regional |
Re: Which Regionals/Districts?
The crystal ball is becoming less cloudy, but still much to discuss and decide.
One scenario heavily discussed today was: Week 2: New York City Week 4: Queen City Week 6: Crossroads with Finger Lakes as a possible alternate to New York if the costs of staying in the area are too high. Where can we stay in Manhattan for less than $100 a night? Haha. |
Re: Which Regionals/Districts?
With the latest dates released we are going to try and make it to:
Week 4: Phoenix Regional and hopefully: Week 6: Silicon Valley Regional |

Re: Which Regionals/Districts?
2168 has discussed two basic options at this time; either GSR and CT, or WPI and CT. We are looking to save some money and stay close to home this year. Personally I will do some volunteering again at Boston, and maybe another NE Regional.
With the district model being discussed heavily in New England, I strongly encourage teams from outside the area to make the trip up here this year if they have never had the chance. |

Let me ask one question. With bag and tag now, is there any real problem in doing two regionals in consecutive weeks? I'm thinking not. Opinions?

Re: Which Regionals/Districts?
We're thinking of the following schedule.
Week 1 Madera Week 4 Sacramento Week 6 Canada West Regional Anyone have Any predictions on how fast these will be filling up this year? |

Re: Which Regionals/Districts?
So the Bayou Regional is our home and this year is week 4. Our spring break happens to fall on week 5. While it would nice to go to a regional on spring break (so us kids wouldnt miss school) no one really wants to go back-to-back regionals. That knocks out Smokey Mt and Alamo, leading us to favor Lone Star.

Re: Which Regionals/Districts?

The week 3 in NYC was nice because the students only had to miss 1 day of school for that event, but missing 3 days total over a 6 day span was difficult for many of them. Doing NYC put us back in the Boston area around 10pm Sunday night, which meant a rough start to the week. Fitting in time to make the modifications/tweaks along the way also ate up more time and pushed us physically/mentally. By the end of the Boston regional we were all quite exhausted. We're avoiding a back-to-back at all costs unless we have no other options. -Brando |
Re: Which Regionals/Districts?
If we did two regionals, our students and teachers are off school on spring break for the first one, and both regionals are local. Only two days of school missed total. With those factors, I'm thinking it could work.

We did SVR and Madera back to back last year. It's incredibly stressful, very difficult to make changes or get more practice in, and completely draining to be going nonstop for 2 weeks. |
Re: Which Regionals/Districts?
KOKO ED:
"WEEK 6: I want to go back to Midwest but Hawaii and Las Vegas are available too. Hawaii is most likely out because Southwest does not fly there and last time I tried to apply to Las Vegas no one called me back and I switched out foe Queen City. I know Dee will call me back for Midwest!" Ed, did you apply personally as a volunteer or are you talking about trying to register your team to compete in Vegas...and when did you apply? I am on the planning committee for the regional and want to make sure you and anyone or any team who contacts us has their contact returned. If you are still interested in joining us this year please let me know and I will be sure to look into hooking you (or your team) up. Just IM me and I guarantee I will get back to you ;) |

Re: Which Regionals/Districts?
So when Registering for competitions this year do you think that the Wild Card will affect which regional's fill up first? Will a week 3 or 4 event fill up quicker than a week 1 or 2 event? Any thought may be helpful for teams registering for events.

The Robonauts are going to be very excited to play with some west coast teams during week 6 at Silicon Valley.
If registration works out, we're also planning on Lone Star during week 2 and Bayou during week 4. |

Hoping for Boston with our second regional registration. :) |
Re: Which Regionals/Districts?
Our plans changed due to a mix-up. We're doing WPI and looking at Boston or Maine.

Re: Which Regionals/Districts?
3929 is registered for Chestnut Hill District so far, and plans to register for Mt. Olive on the 11th. Hopefully CHA fills up nicely.
|
Re: Which Regionals/Districts?
3737 will be attending Raleigh, and is registered for Myrtle Beach as well, though the second is subject to change depending on our financial situation in 2 months.
|
Re: Which Regionals/Districts?
As a volunteer, I know I'll be making the Peachtree Regional for 2 of the 3 days. After week 3, I was thinking of heading to a week 4 event, since it is at the end of my Spring Break. Maybe Bayou or Dallas, since that's not too far from Atlanta, though I may always try to fly standby to check out Waterloo, who knows? (Oh, what I would do to volunteer on the same field that 1114 and 2056 play on). Though as of now, Bayou might be winning my vote since it's closer to home and I could see the Robonauts live.
|
Re: Which Regionals/Districts?
I'll be at GTR East, Waterloo, and GTR West. Team is still undecided.
|
Re: Which Regionals/Districts?
2080 is registered for Bayou, now we just have to decide on one other regional from the few we have it narrowed down to. I'm already counting down to Bayou, it should be fun with the teams expressing interest!
|
Re: Which Regionals/Districts?
Team 1817 will be at Hub City and Dallas regionals.
and hopefully championships of course. |
Re: Which Regionals/Districts?
Skunkworks Robotics will be trying to attend the following regionals:
Week 4 Central Washington Week 5 Seattle Week 6 Spokane I know ... its crazy... but our school's teachers support our program..and are going to go on Friday to Spokane with most of the team. (we have 65 members on the team this year...) It will be a tough three weeks... |

At least not from January to May Last year we worked every single day of the build season... well not all the students did but I did...(except the 6 days we lost because of snow...) i think we had a couple of days off sometime during the competition season.... but it was pretty much a blur to me... we did 3 regionals last year too but not in a row... (and CMP) It's a great time ... but exhausting |
Re: Which Regionals/Districts?
2068 is heading back to the Virginia regional and we are bringing 4472 (Rookie) with us!
|
Re: Which Regionals/Districts?
4183 will be at the Phoenix regional and probably one more in the Southwest. Maybe San Diego...
|
Re: Which Regionals/Districts?
We (Team 999) are probably going to end up going to CT and NYC or CT and the closest regional that's still open because we ended up not signing up in time for NYC last year. However, we're going to do our best to go to 2 regionals this year even if we don't get into NYC.
