Though with Wisconsin separated from Midwest this year, we might end up in Milwaukee as well. But that's just me speculating.

The crystal ball is becoming less cloudy, but still much to discuss and decide.

One scenario heavily discussed today was:

Week 2: New York City

Week 4: Queen City

Week 6: Crossroads

with Finger Lakes as a possible alternate to New York if the costs of staying in the area are too high. Where can we stay in Manhattan for less than $100 a night? Haha.

With the latest dates released we are going to try and make it to:
Week 4: Phoenix Regional
and hopefully:
Week 6: Silicon Valley Regional

2168 has discussed two basic options at this time; either GSR and CT, or WPI and CT. We are looking to save some money and stay close to home this year. Personally I will do some volunteering again at Boston, and maybe another NE Regional.

With the district model being discussed heavily in New England, I strongly encourage teams from outside the area to make the trip up here this year if they have never had the chance.

I will echo this sentiment.

For the NUTRONs, we're looking at this schedule:

Week 2: San Diego or Oralndo

Week 4: Boston

Week 6: Pine Tree

Although I know you are kidding, getting from the NJ side into the NYC regional is not incredibly difficult - I know it's hard for a larger group but the NJ Transit's Northeast Corridor runs from Trenton > Princeton Junction > New Brunswick > Newark > NYC... If you could find a hotel along the NECorridor line, you could probably stay somewhere for cheap and get some train passes. This also applies to staying somewhere outside of Manhattan and using the Subway (maybe- I'm not as familiar with that system)

Actually I wasn't kidding. The one time I went to NYC I stayed outside the Newark Airport (I saw a constant steady stream of planes landing til I fell asleep) and I took the train in (I was shocked how fast trains that didn't stop at the platform zoomed past the platform AT THE PLATFORM). If you're gonna go to NYC unless you got some super crazy deal I would suggest going that route.

Okay maybe not. There is a different proposal on the table among the mentors I just heard of, so we'll see how it turns out.

Missing school days two weeks in a row is a problem for most students. It's been labeled a show-stopping problem by the teachers on our team.

We kiddos get burned out, 2 regigonals is enough already. Plus our teachers wouldn't like that...

Re: Which Regionals/Districts?

So the Bayou Regional is our home and this year is week 4. Our spring break happens to fall on week 5. While it would nice to go to a regional on spring break (so us kids wouldnt miss school) no one really wants to go back-to-back regionals. That knocks out Smokey Mt and Alamo, leading us to favor Lone Star.

You kiddos, imagine the toll it plays on us old mentors. Among the missing school thing, back to back weeks is a very tiresome thing for the whole team, students and mentors. Plus if you need to make in spares or replacement parts, there isn't much turn around to do it.

In 2012, we did NYC in week 3 (Fri, Sat, Sun) followed by Boston in week 4 (Thurs, Fri, Sat). Most of the issues have been brought up, but we did experience all of them.

The week 3 in NYC was nice because the students only had to miss 1 day of school for that event, but missing 3 days total over a 6 day span was difficult for many of them. Doing NYC put us back in the Boston area around 10pm Sunday night, which meant a rough start to the week. Fitting in time to make the modifications/tweaks along the way also ate up more time and pushed us physically/mentally.

By the end of the Boston regional we were all quite exhausted. We're avoiding a back-to-back at all costs unless we have no other options.

If we did two regionals, our students and teachers are off school on spring break for the first one, and both regionals are local. Only two days of school missed total. With those factors, I'm thinking it could work.

Flight attendants have approved contract changes that will allow the carrier to operate flights to the islands and near-international destinations.

The Transport Workers Union said Friday that 52.3 percent of flight attendants who voted favored the agreement while 47.7 percent opposed it.

Union officials say the deal should help Dallas-based Southwest grow and help flight attendants.

It totally sucks, but there's no reason that it won't work.

We did SVR and Madera back to back last year. It's incredibly stressful, very difficult to make changes or get more practice in, and completely draining to be going nonstop for 2 weeks.

So sorry to hear about the communication problem. I will follow up with a talk to our Volunteer Coordinator and try to see what may have happened...he has always been very good about processing requests. Was your request only through VIMS or was it direct through our website? If you or anyone else finds it easier to communicate with me I will happily play the middle man. I am going to be the main team liaison for all potential or registered teams to LVR this year.

So when Registering for competitions this year do you think that the Wild Card will affect which regional's fill up first? Will a week 3 or 4 event fill up quicker than a week 1 or 2 event? Any thought may be helpful for teams registering for events.

Most definitely. If teams are planning on attending say, a week 1 regional and a week 4 regional with traditional fill up times being the same, the week 4 regional will fill up faster this year for sure. If it is a tossup between these 2 regionals, and one has a potential additional qualifying spot, I know which event I would select first.

The X-Cats are doing what they usually do: FLR and Championship.
As for me my potential schedule is as follows:
WEEK 1: FLR
WEEK 2: Orlando
WEEK 3: Pittsburgh over Montreal
WEEK 4: Boston
WEEK 5: I want to go back to GTR but DC is the same week. If I don't get my Garmin issue squared away I may have to stick to the US so I don't end up traveling to Mississauga and end up in Calgary.
WEEK 6: I want to go back to Midwest but Hawaii and Las Vegas are available too. Hawaii is most likely out because Southwest does not fly there and last time I tried to apply to Las Vegas no one called me back and I switched out foe Queen City. I know Dee will call me back for Midwest!
WEEK 7: MSC.
and obviously championships.

With the events officially up on the FIRST website my final choices are:
1. FLR
2. Orlando
3. Pittburgh
4. Boston
5. GTR West (I can rent a car with a working GPS that acknowledges the existence of Canada. Doing two years without GTR is not good for my mental state)
6. Midwest (I owe Dee)
7. MSC
8. Championship

As a volunteer, I know I'll be making the Peachtree Regional for 2 of the 3 days. After week 3, I was thinking of heading to a week 4 event, since it is at the end of my Spring Break. Maybe Bayou or Dallas, since that's not too far from Atlanta, though I may always try to fly standby to check out Waterloo, who knows? (Oh, what I would do to volunteer on the same field that 1114 and 2056 play on). Though as of now, Bayou might be winning my vote since it's closer to home and I could see the Robonauts live.

I am a FRC Coach/Mentor I don't know the meaning of the words "days off" or "rest".
At least not from January to May

Last year we worked every single day of the build season... well not all the students did but I did...(except the 6 days we lost because of snow...)

i think we had a couple of days off sometime during the competition season....
but it was pretty much a blur to me... we did 3 regionals last year too but not in a row... (and CMP)
