Which Regionals/Districts?

After reading through "2013 Predicted Events Calendar" I was thinking about what regional's Teams where thinking about going to.

So, what regional's are some teams going to, or even considering going to. I know the Regional List isn't out yet, but I'm sure some teams have an idea of where they want to go.

772:
Going to Smoky Mountains Regional (we want to try getting Back2Back Regional wins, Going undefeated there in 2012 wasn't good enough ;) )
Going to Either GTR West, GTR East, or Waterloo. (least likely is waterloo)
Want to go to either two of the above or go to Buckeye. (leaning towards Buckeye)

1058 annually goes to the Granite State Regional in Manchester, NH. We are also planning on going to a second regional, such as Boston, Hartford, or WPI. We went to GSR and Boston this season and both were fantastic events.

Orlando or South Florida would love to have some of our brothers from Canadia come down to visit. And I bet your students would love to get out of the cold weather and into the warm weather of The Sunshine State.

Robolions 3397 are going to go to St. Louis Regional, and if the funds permit, Kansas City (but probably not).

Re: Which Regionals/Districts?

1405 will be hitting up the Finger Lakes regional, as usual.

Funding, unfortunately, does not permit a second regional.

But if Finger Lakes is the regional we're going to, I'm not heart broken about. I have enough fun there to cover me for weeks to come.

Aaron:

Finger Lakes is also quite popular amongst Canadian teams (with the likes of 2056, 188 and 610 having joined us in the past). If we're fortunate to not have it fall on the same weekend as one of the Canadian regionals again, you guys should consider coming down. Karthik has even graced us with his godly announcing skills in the past.

If not, Buckeye is also a great regional. Having gone twice, I can say you'll have a lot of fun with the teams there.

We always go to the Bayou - its our home.
I'd love to go another regional and we are seriously looking towards Texas. Personally, Im favoring a visit to Alamo, but we will see what happens.

I love FLR! We have gone to FLR in the past (2007, and 2009). I went in 2009 when my brother was on the team (my rookie year as a member was 2010). I know we were talking about going to it, I'm not sure why we "decided" (haven't really decided yet) Buckeye over FLR. If FLR works better for us than any other regional we will most likely be coming. We don't want to have Back to back regional's like we did this year, so if what we want makes us have back to back then FLR is a perfect plan B.

Though, unlike all the other Canadian teams, we don't live as close to Rochester as them. We live right across from Detroit, so we have to travel up to Niagara (4 ish hours) to cross the border. then make our way to rochester. I think the trip is 6 hours, which to us is average. 2012 we traveled a total of 56 hours (there and back), that was Smoky Mountains, GTR west, Queen City, and St.Louis, Thank gosh one of our sponsors supplies us with vehicles and gas.

Haha :D! I'll Mention it to our mentors, but a 24 hour drive (literally 24 hours for us) or a plane ride wouldn't really go well with them. If you ever wanted to come up to the "Great White North" and compete with some amazing teams (like 1114, 2056, 188, 610, 1503 etc...) and help us try and defeat 1114 and 2056, that would be amazing! ;)

Rochestarians would love to see 772 come back to FLR!

174 is going to FLR, obviously. After the great success we had last season, we hope to continue it and make a run for a 4th FLR title. For our second regional, we are probably going back to DC, but that can change. Talks of the other two locations of Buckeye or Boston have been had. If I could choose, I'd take the Warriors to DC, so much fun and a great host of teams to challenge ourselves.

256's future depends on how much funding we can do this fall.

In the perfect world, 2 regionals + Champs, but if we're lucky we'll be going to:

Silicon Valley Regional

FIRST Championships (pre-registering, but qualifying would also be nice)

This year 842 is really trying to gun it this year. Provided we raise enough money we want to go to 3 regionals. Right now we are thinking week 1 Alamo, Week 4 Arizona, and Week 6 Central Valley provided the regionals are the same weeks as last year and they are probably not. :D

If the money works, it's a toss up between Queen City and Pittsburgh for a second regional. QCR was amazing this year, we would all love to come back.
If the money is INSANELY AWESOME we might try for champs.

Palmetto is a given for us. With that regional moving to Week 1, it more or less blows the door open for our second event (in the past, we always wanted something before Palmetto).

Traditionally, we only do Championship if we get in the hard way.

Just a wild guess here, but I think 1114 and 2056 will be going to GTR west, GTR east, and Waterloo. Unless GTR west/east are on the same weekend then they will most likely go outside of Canada, FLR is a possibility.

I suspect we will end up at Chesapeake* this year as DC is Easter weekend and our parents have asked that we avoid competing on that weekend if at all possible.

*Assuming Chesapeake doesn't seriously move weeks on us.

Not sure if we are going to do two events this year or not.

1114 and 2056, as well as any other Canadian team, will always be welcomed and celebrated (at least in my book) at Finger Lakes. I believe I recall hearing that 1114 has wanted to make the trip to Rochester for a while, but things just don't line up. I look forward to the day when he can have one or even both ROC out with us :)

MARS will be doing Orlando, South Florida, possibly a third regional and preregistering for Championship, since it has been 5 years since we went

I believe IE Regional is, from the other thread, Inland Empire Regional. Google tells me that's Southern California right outside of LA. My mind tells me it is the most menacing sounding Regional.

Team 2410 will be attending the Greater Kansas City regional, as it is our home regional, but I believe we are still deciding upon a second regional. Previously our 2nd regional has been St. Louis, Denver, Oklahoma, Midwest, and Oklahoma. We commonly like to attend a different Midwest regional than the year before, so any suggestions are open. Still raising funds to fit in that Hawaii regional we would so dearly like to attend...

Because FLR was Week 2 last time and the important Michigan districts start in Week 2 - which is what they were doing at the time.

With FLR Week 1, it opens up the door again. That's also why teams like 188 and 610 who make regular rounds to FLR didn't make it last time either - as that's when GTR East(?) was, week 2.

Well... And I may be mistaken, or misinformed, or whatnot... but I believe Chesapeake and FLR were the same weekend. Yet they went to Chesapeake anyways. But whatever. Teams have their reasons for doing things. Reasons we don't need to know. I only hope we're fortunate enough for 217 to compete at FLR again :)

I know nothing is official yet, but is this the direction FLR is heading in?

From the looks of the RIT schedule, it's most likely going to be Week 1 - but yes, it isn't confirmed yet. The event has always taken place in the returning weekend of RIT's break, so that's why it can be assumed this way.

I am thinking about sending our team to the Razorback Regional.

359 plans to do:
Plan A-unofficially go to a Canadian regional ;) Hawaii, and CMP
Plan B-unofficially Bayou, Peachtree combo if possible or Boilermaker, Cincinnati combo if possible...........and Hawaii and CMP

Going to either depends on when Hawaii is, which has been narrowed to 2 weekend dates at the moment.
We also try to go to a new regional every year, other than the second home for Hawaii residents......Las Vegas.

If you're serious about Boilermaker - and that would be awesome - be advised that it has a hard cap at 40 teams.
Fire Marshall says so.
There figures to be 50+ teams in Indiana alone next year. My advice would be to claim it as your primary event to make sure you get in.

Pittsburgh (almost a certainty)

1-2 of Queen City/Wisconsin/GTR West

Those are my personal preferences. 48 leadership won't discuss and decide on anything like this until the regional schedule is released.

There's supposed to be a second Indiana regional competition for the 2013 season, in Terre Haute. If Boilermaker isn't available when registration time comes around, maybe the new one will be.

We'll probably go to Waterford again, since it's only 25 minutes away, and Northville or maybe Troy. If we have the funds and the weeks line up, we might head out-of-state (if I convince them:rolleyes:). Some of us were talking to our team leader, and he gave Queen City a resounding "maybe", which is about the best we could expect.

COME TO A CANADIAN REGIONAL TO HELP US DEFEAT THE "EH TEAM" (Referring to 1114, and 2056 right now).

(just to clarify to everyone, I DO NOT hate these teams at all, I simply (ha, I wish it was simple) want to beat them. I have actually gotten to know some of their members through Facebook. My goal for next year is to defeat 2056 in a Regional, which Does NOT mean I hate them, its a Goal I set for myself)

Sure, and 'cause we've been there before and done well... and gotten secretly famous. (Our robot is right behind Karthik in his WAI, from the 2008 finals at Waterloo [We got beaten by Karthik and the Eh Team + 1680])

1261 will be going to P'tree, of course, as well as another regional close by. Now, which regional will depend on proximity, week number, and the general wishes of the team.

Definitely the singing. /oldjoke

I'd personally like to go because Team 48 was one of the original American teams who supported the original Canadian Regional-turned-GTR (now GTR West). We attended from 2002-2007.

It was always a very fun time. Very few of our team members know what it's like to compete up there, and many/most have not been outside the country.

It would be awesome to return to the times of massive American involvement in Canadian events, which really hasn't been the case since oh, 2006-07 ish.

That's a pretty bold statement. :p
We just want to go to give our students an opportunity to see other places in North America.
In reference to the EH Team, its looking more like seeing 4334.

It just depends on when Hawaii is, as going to a regional in Canada is our first choice. Otherwise we are looking at either a Week 1-2 or 2-3 in the mainland prior to Hawaii.
Bayou is my personal choice to attend since I've never been to New Orleans. We are definitely going there as a team sometime soon as I missed out on Hawaii playing Georgia in the BCS bowl.

Well, as "someone" who is "involved" with "Calgary FIRST", I can say that you might just meet more than 4334. It depends on a lot of factors, of course, so don't quote me on that. I bet that a lot of your students will experience something quite similar to the scene in Cool Runnings when they step out of the airport, though. Calgary in March/April is cold! You could take Sunday for a day of skiing! :p

The Bayou Regional is also very well run, and an event that you'd certainly be very happy going to. New Orleans is a really fun city! No team ski trip, though. ;)

Going to Alamo in week 1 might be a bit difficult, given that Alamo is a week 5 regional this time. :) Still fits your schedule though, so I hope your fundraisers work out.

I went to GTR in 2005 and it was one of the best regionals I have been too! The Triplets confused me so much that year! ;)

Ahh man. That really sucks. I'll have to see if any of the other regionals change as well. Going to going to back to back week 4 and 5 events is a little difficult because of school so if AZ is still week 4 we may not be able to go to Alamo. :( Does anyone know what time they released the regionals and their dates last year?

3666 is playing on 1 regional or 2 if funding permits.

1. Bayou Regional
2. Either Lone Star, Dallas E/W, Alamo, or the rumored Arkansas Regional

The FRC Event Schedule was released on September 27th last year.

Edit: Oops, actually most of the dates were given on the 23rd.

I think your talking about 2006, which is when there was the triplets (1114, 1503, 1680). Unless they did they same thin gin 2005, and to my knowledge they didn't.

EDIT: They were around in 2005 also. (see post below)

GTR 2006 was my first ever regional that I attended :D My brother was on the team for his second year, and we all went up to Toronto for the weekend. That's the point that I got hooked to FIRST, and now I'm here :D!

@ Travis

I faintly remember 48 being there, and I am surprised at the amount of American Teams that no longer come to any Canadian Regionals. Aces High is 1 team that I specifically remember being there :)

I would love to see more Americans there this year. But we are going to the US most likely for 2 regionals so I'll see you all then (OH and in St.Louis ;) )

During our last meeting we discussed going to the BAE and WPI Regional, hoping that the WPI regional's increased capacity will allow us to sign up for it in the second round.

Come to FLR with us and lets beat all the Americans! lmao
Well If we decide to go.

If SMR is actually week 5 and FLR is week 1, Im pretty sure we could be going to those and then hopefully a GTR, possibly east which is most likely week 2.

Finger Lakes not sharing a competition weekend with Canada. This has made my day.

I hope this will have us see the return of many of our favorite Canadian teams to FLR! And Karthik. If you see this, and feel like hitting the states for a regional. We'd be ecstatic if 1114 finally took the trip to Rochester.

The Aztechs I know want to do WPI and some combo of Boston/Manchester. Most likely Boston since Manchester/WPI are back to back (Weeks 1 & 2 respectively) and I don't think the school would be too thrilled at us pulling students out of school two weeks in a row.

We did Manchester & Boston last year and had a blast, hoping to see some familiar faces again this year!

Looks like Waterford and Grand Blanc for us, and probably entering the lottery for Troy. I'm surprised Northville has been moved, but it was a little far away without a hotel (some team members didn't get back until 1AM-ish Saturday morning, and then had to turn around and come back).

I can't speak for 1923/229/4124, but here's where I'll probably be. The weeks with more than one listed are depending on what my teams and family decide to attend.

Week 1: FLR or GSR
Week 2: GTR East (I sadly missed the chance on my invite last year because FLR overlapped - I hope they'll still let me in)
Week 3: Montreal
Week 4: Boston (serving as Volunteer Coordinator)
Week 5: Connecticut or South Florida
Week 6: Western Canada or SPBLI Long Island
Week 7: MAR Champs.

And, obviously, the Championship.
And finishing my senior year of college somewhere in there, too.

Week 5

GTR WEST
Smoky mountains
EDIT: Buckeye is also this week -.- All three regional's we originally planned are the same week. /END EDIT? lol

Re: Which Regionals/Districts?

These are possible regional's for 772

Week 1:
-Finger Lakes regional (6:00 Hours) - Possible but less likely

Week 2:
-Greater Toronto East (4:56 Hours) - Most likely will go to GTR East

Week 3: HIGHLY doubt we will be going to any this week because we dont like to go on regionals during march break.
-Boilermaker (5:42 Hours)
- Montreal (10:25 Hours)- HIGHLY X2 Unlikely

Week 4:
-Queen City (4:41 Hours)
-Waterloo (3:38 Hours) - We don't always like going to Waterloo, but it is likely we will be going this year. Even if my team doesn't I may make the trip up.

Week 5:
- Buckeye (3:14 Hours) - Haven't been here since 2007, but it's the closest regional to us
- Greater Toronto West (4:12 Hours) - we've never missed a regional at the Hershey center, will this be our first? :/
- Smoky Mountains (8:46 Hours) - Won the regional last year, loved the event, we want to come back to try and win again, but we have some decisions to make.

Week 6: Probably wont be going to any of these, but they're still possibilities
- Midwest (5:04 Hours) - EXTREMELY competitive last year, but still would be a great regional to go to
- Crossroads (6:38 Hours) - 234 is just awesome and we'd love to visit you guys :D

Right now I think we will be going to GTR East, Waterloo, and Smoky Mountains, but I can't confirm anything

I think I'll put this in the right thread. :o

The X-Cats are doing what they usually do: FLR and Championship.
As for me my potential schedule is as follows:
WEEK 1: FLR
WEEK 2: Orlando
WEEK 3: Pittsburgh over Montreal
WEEK 4: Boston
WEEK 5: I want to go back to GTR but DC is the same week. If I don't get my Garmin issue squared away I may have to stick to the US so I don't end up traveling to Mississauga and end up in Calgary.
WEEK 6: I want to go back to Midwest but Hawaii and Las Vegas are available too. Hawaii is most likely out because Southwest does not fly there and last time I tried to apply to Las Vegas no one called me back and I switched out foe Queen City. I know Dee will call me back for Midwest!
WEEK 7: MSC.
and obviously championships.

I approve of week 3!

3929 is trying to decide on two between Hatboro, chestnut hill, Mt. Olive, and the tbd week 6 event. The lack of week 2 and 5 events didn't leave us many choices as those are the optimal weeks to choose usually.

Team 2826 Wave Robotics will be back at the WI Regional for our main regional. We are considering either the Northern Lights or Midwest Regional for our second regional this year. Like all teams, we hope to qualifty for the championships.

Every year I wish we could go to more competitions but then I realise that objections such as money, student time off, and mentor time off stand in the way. Who would have thought?!?!?! Though I am also glad that we are able to go to two....

We have initial plans to attend the Northern Lights event as well, in addition to Boilermaker, for back to back weeks.

How's this for a nebulous regional list? Pick 1 event (maybe) from:

Week 2: NYC/Orlando/WPI (If FLR were Week 2 this year, it would have been a strong contender. Alas, it is during "Guinea Pig Week"....)

and then 1-2 events from:

Week 3: (not likely, OGT testing) Pittsburgh

Week 4: Queen City/Wisconsin/Boston

Week 5: Buckeye/GTR West/DC/Smoky Mountains

Week 6: Midwest/Crossroads/Long Island

Yeah, we haven't decided yet.

P.J. 17-09-2012 18:21

Re: Which Regionals/Districts?

Still not fully decided but...

Week 1: Kettering (Compete)
Week 2: Waterford (Volunteer)
Week 3: St. Joseph (Compete)
Week 4: Grand Blanc or West Michigan (Volunteer)
Week 5: Troy (Compete)
Week 6: Midwest (Volunteer)
Week 7: MSC (Volunteer and hopefully compete)

This is assuming we manage to get 3 districts. If not, it will probably be St. Joseph and Troy, in which case I'll be volunteering at Kettering.

When the 2012 regionals reached initial and maximum capacity can be found here. Boilermaker reached initial capacity within in a day, but there is a new Indiana regional now. And the Northern Lights regional is new, so no data on that.

To summarize, good luck :D
