Robot's In The D - Article

Here's an Article about the robot that willl be "throwing" the First pitch at Comerica Park.

I can't wait to see it in action, Unfortunately we won't be attending the event, so we'll have to wait for video after.

Great Job and Congrats to all who worked on this project. The FIRST world, and a lot of Tigers Fans and Blue Jay Fans (ex. Karthik) will be watching! :D

I'm glad to see this is getting a ton of publicity, and I can't wait to see this thing in action tomorrow.

You guys got that thing locked down so that no one in the stands could take control, right? Nice going and good luck.

I heard a story on WWJ radio this morning too. (They've always been supportive of FIRST.)

Google News shows articles from Science 2.0, Scrape TV, Hometown Life, Desert Sun, Oakland Press, and Fox News. There's also a CBS Local article that some other articles reference.

Clarification/correction on this line in the article:

Quote:

Two robots have thrown first pitches at Philadelphia Philly games but they were made by University of Pennsylvania students and one used the chassis of a Segway, said Eli Bayless, promotions director for the Detroit Tigers.
The Segway-based robot as indeed built by University of Pennsylvania students. The other, a HUBO, came from Drexel University's Autonomous Systems Laboratory.

Is there a video of this up yet? I'd love to see it!

Haven't seen video yet, but The Detroit Free Press put up another article, with a gametime picture. They described the pitch as a "44 MPH fastball low and outside." There was also an article from Wired.

It was great to see this out on the field. It was also good to see the display set up in the stadium, with local robots showing their stuff with last years game. I was a little disappointed to find out that it was not actually televised live. It is also a little disappointing that the article is in such an obscure spot on the MSN page.
Thanks to the teams, students and mentors that made this happen.

I personally did not see it on TV, but one of the drivers from 2056 said he saw it on Sportsnet Connected. Wish we went now but oh well.
