For teams on a tight budget:

Buy an old VCR at a Goodwill 50% off sale for 5 bucks. The main board is loaded with discrete parts: micro switches, LEDs, diodes, transistors, electrolytic caps, connectors. Once you get the hang of it, they're not too hard to remove.
