[FTC]: Ring It Up! Scoring Potential

MAX. SCORING POTENTIAL:
Autonomous ring bonus: 50 pts.
Score from rings on all pegs on own alliance’s side: (3*(15+10+5)) = 90 pts.
Bonus from all pegs owned on own alliance’s side: (30*8) = 240 pts.
All pegs owned on opposing side: (90+240) 330 pts.
Bonus from 6 weighted rings: (20%*6*180) = 216 pts.
Lifting a robot 24”: (30+(23*5)) = 145 pts.

TOTAL = 1071 pts.

However, this is nowhere near possible. Just calculating it for fun. Or you could say I'm ringing up the numbers for fun. Hyuck hyuck hyuck... Let the horrible puns begin...

This game looks a lot like the 2011 FRC game, Logomotion (I mean A LOT), and has the robot lifting element from FRC 2007. I also love how they had the Curiosity Rover as one of the robots in the game animation.

Looks like it'll be an interesting season.

There are just so many ways to gain points in this game!! I wonder how many teams will be able to lift robots super high, I haven't actually looked too deep into the game manual yet but is there a maximum height?

^The maximum height for lifting a robot is 24 inches.

I'm very excited for this years game. It's my second year, and I must say I really prefer the simplicity of this years game over Bowled Over. Instead of having a crowded playfield full of crates, balls, 2 ramps, and having defined areas for where balls the balls robots go, we now have a clean area. The robots can be placed anywhere against the wall on their alliances side, as long as it's not touching anything but the wall(and ground). I'm liking it. :D

Does anyone know how high up the third row of pegs is?

I'm so glad they put a limit on it this year! After seeing the field first hand at the local kickoff the highest row of pegs looked to be a little over half as tall as I am, so not too high... At least when it comes to my FRC standards *remembers Logomotion*

I like this game. A lot. Its not hanging but I can do with some robot on robot action.

Reminds me personally of 2005 Triple Play, 2007 Rack N' Roll, and 2011 Logomotion.

Not quite there.

You have 26 Rings of your color. Put 6 of them as weighted rings on the corner goal for a 120% Ring Score + Line Score Bonus. That leaves 2 Auto and 18 Regular. Put 1 regular on each peg, giving a ring score of 180, and a line bonus of 480. The weighted ring bonus adds 120% of 660 (180+480) which gives 792. You also have those 2 autonomous rings and if you put them on the highest row that is also on the IR beacon column, that's another 100 points (not 50). Add in the 145 for lifting your partner 24".

To sum that up, I get:
180 (RING SCORE)
+480 (LINE SCORE)
+792 (WEIGHTED RING BONUS)
+130 (AUTONOMOUS RINGS)
+145 (LIFTING BONUS)
For a grand total of...1,727 Points

Still, completely theoretical.

Around 35" I believe.

Actually the middle one is around 35". The high pegs are about 48" tall. (I could be wrong, but that's what the math adds up to in the building guide).

If I read the guide correctly, the bottom pvc is 10 inches, and the top two are 12 inches, giving us 34 inches. Add 3-4 inches for fittings and we have a height of ~37 inches.

The base adds another 4-5 inches too (diagrams for the base are earlier in the guide). So maybe around 40 inches?

I heard 35-36" for the middle peg at the kickoff, but maybe they measured wrong, or maybe they were talking about the high peg. I may have misheard as well.

Re: [FTC]: Ring It Up! Scoring Potential

Most matches will be lucky to see a score above 200. I predict a November/December average score of 80, with most successful alliances averaging 150 or so points by February.

For what it's worth, this is coming from the guy who found the Lockout strategy in the '09-'10 game (yes, there was one), and who figured out how to 'most likely' win the '11-'12 game on the Monday following kickoff (one of my teams did win champs this year...). Right now I don't see a "lock out" or "probably win" scenario that's guaranteed once executed, but I then again I've only read the rules rather than analyzed them. YMMV though.

Focus on the simple things, leaving flexibility for the larger picture. That's the key to FTC (well, having a kick-butt autonomous helps too...).

I think you missed multiplying the 30 point top-row ring score of the two autonomous rings (which you included under "AUTONOMOUS RINGS") by the weighted ring bonus (of 1.2), so there should be 36 more theoretical points to be had:

1727 + 36 = 1763 grand total.

Re: [FTC]: Ring It Up! Scoring Potential

The heights for the pegs, corner goal, and dispeneser were just re-released in the Field Set-Up Guide. 18" for the low pegs, corner goal, and dispenser, 31" for the middle peg, and 44" for the top peg, according to FIRST.

Re: [FTC]: Ring It Up! Scoring Potential

this is how i count the highest possible score:

score for one donut on each peg:180 pts (90 per side) (this uses 18 donuts leaving only the weighted)

score for line bonuses:30*8*2=480 pts

score for auto ring placement on top row: 30 (for two auto rings)

with 6 weighted rings is a 120%

so 675 + 810= 1485 pts

and with the 100 pt bonus for auto rings on IR column and 145 pts for lifting 24 inches (neither of these are affected by the weighted ring bonus) makes:1763 points by my count.

I think joachim was right.
