Re: Loss of Beloved FIRST Family Member

Kimmy was one of those volunteers that expressed everything about what FIRST stands for. She brought joy and excitement that was nothing short of contagious for both those she worked with and the teams she interacted with.

I have to agree with Curtis in saying that, even though you aren't supposed to have favorites, she definitely was among the best. She would jump at any chance to help and be among the first to arrive and last to leave. I always looked forward to having her on my team and found myself amazed at how much she would grow as a person each time I saw her.

Praying for Kelcey and everyone else that has been apart of her life. I'm grateful for the times I got to share with her.

A friend reminded me of this photo of Kimmy. This was Kimmy at Bayou this year doing what she loved, volunteering to help others. Nobody likes the job of cleaning the glass but Kimmy never minded. She wanted to make sure the drivers could see as clearly as possible.

My sincerest condolences to Kimmy’s family and FRC 456. I had the pleasure of meeting Kimmy this past year on the Archimedes field and after a minute of talking to her, you could feel the passion she had in FIRST and as a volunteer. On behalf of FRC 2826 and all fellow volunteers, I know that we will keep you all in our thoughts in these trying times.

Chuck, thank you for posting Kimmy's picture.

I can only offer my deepest condolences.

I hope it's not out of place to say my reaction speaks for how tight-knit the FIRST community is - reading the post was like reading about the death of a long lost sister.

On behalf of team 3081, I want to offer my gratitude for all the work Kimmy has done in FIRST and deepest sorrow for her loss. Reading about her death brought tears to my eyes.

Take care

Chuck,

Please pass my condolences on to the Melton family. I'm sure your team will provide all the support they can, as did Team 975 when we lost Karl.

Re: Loss of Beloved FIRST Family Member

I really don’t know what to say except to say it comforts my heart to be a part of an organization like FIRST! Kim was my daughter and I have been reading all of your posts. This and her local friends posting on facebook has been a great comfort to me and my wife. We had the visitation tonight and we had 4 FRC teams represented from 3 different states. (MS, LA, TX) Also, a number of the volunteers that make the Bayou Regional a success drove up as well and it wasn’t a short trip. FIRST is a one of a kind organization and I am honored and proud to be a part of it!

Also, CLandrum3081, I don’t think you comment is out of place at all. FIRST is a family and she was a sister to you.

I send my deepest condolences to you and your family, as well as your team. Just this summer, 11 also experienced the loss of a recent graduate and son of a team mentor. It is incredibly hard to deal with. I hope you can surround yourself with those who care for your daughter the most.

Rest in peace Kimmy.

I'm wearing my team shirt today.
Thank you for posting her picture. Although I didn't know Kimmy personally, I do remember seeing her at CMP '11. Her sunny disposition was striking and memorable.
