Videos posted by FRC about game design
I just watched all of the videos that FRC put out on Youtube (they are very interesting, but I wonder what was in part one and two of the videos they removed) a few months back of their live q&a session on the GDC and other misc. stuff.
I took away from it that, pertaining to next years game - a) The kinect will stay, and he seemed particularity interested about it being used ON the robot b) They will keep the live scoring of the game c) The want the crowd to be entertained d) Coopertition is definitely here to stay (him responding specifically that they liked the coopertiton bridge and such) e) When asked about a water game (I have to bring it up, also, watch it here) , he said that no games will be taking place in pools ( :( ) but water as an element in the gameplay is an option. He also fake-answered "with water in it" here, but Im fairly confident he's just trolling us. If I were him, I sure would, so why not? So, what did you all think about the videos? |
Re: Videos posted by FRC about game design
I definitely suspected Kinect would be used again, but unless they plan on giving us
1. A new router with a USB port 2. A new cRIO module with a USB port 3. Some form of co-processor with a USB port (Pandaboard, Beaglebone) I'm not sure how we would actually use the Kinect on the robot. I know it's been done before though, team 987 used a Kinect plugged into a Pandaboard on their 2012 robot. |
Re: Videos posted by FRC about game design
Bill Miller said multiple times that Kinect would be used again this year in a bigger way. Many teams feel that Kinect was added as a last-second aspect to the 2012 game. I am sure much more planning will go into the 2013 game.

I personnely think we will be able to use it in both hrbid or on our robot. I would rather use it on my robot though because of the possible advantages. The kinect for driving the robot is really good thing for demo's though, has any teams been using it at the kinect? |

Re: Videos posted by FRC about game design
The kinects were donated after last years game was already in the bag. Dean said put these in the game so the GDC did the best they could.
I would imagine with the GDC having a lot longer time to think about it, the Kinect will play a larger roll in this years game. |
