701 signed up for Central Valley, CA regional this morning. We are going to try 3 regionals (CVR, SVR, COL) for the first time in our 13 year history! Should be a hoot!

3501 is signed up for Central Valley week 1 and Silicon Valley week 6. Looking forward to the stiff competition that these will bring!

Re: Registration 2013

Central Valley and Lone Star have both reached Initial Capacity.
  • (4) Double-digit Regionals
  • (9) Single-digit Regionals
  • (3) Single-digit MAR Districts
P.S.
While the overall registration rate is up 18% this year, the rate of rookie team registration is closely matching what happened last year (278 today vs 282 a year ago at this same time).
So the advance is almost totally due to veterans registering sooner.

Anybody know what actual Capacity is for Montreal? I notice its already got more teams than competed there last year.

Would that be veterans registering sooner, or a higher rate of return of veteran teams? How does the current rate of return of veteran teams compare to previous years?

The venue is certainly big enough, they had an FLL event running at the same time last year. There was a ton of space left over in the pits, and seating was all portable bleachers, so I'm guessing they could always add a couple more rows. Hosting 50+ teams in the future doesn't seem unreasonable to me if they work on the seating a bit.

It probably comes down to their planning committee and what they feel comfortable with. Send them an email and ask.

Not yet.

We're still under last year's veteran return rate by about 3%.
88% vs 91% last year

Resurrected veterans are at about 9.5% so far vs last year's final 13.6%, so that's not it either.

P.S.
I don't think this is unusual activity. I just hadn't noticed that the arc of registration is greater each year primarily due to the previous year's rookies signing up fast rather than the slower, steady pace of newly organizing rookie teams.
It means the arc is very predictable.

Re: Registration 2013

Officially acknowledged teams now stand at 2339.
That matches last seasons total teams, so we're at the break even point so to speak.

The portable seating they used at Montreal last year made watching an absolute nightmare. The rise of the seating per row was nowhere near steep enough, resulting in being unable to see over the heads of the people in front of you/at the scoring table. I watched from the very back row of the seating, and even there, the field was barely visible, and I found myself watching the video screen, which I could have done from home.

I talked about that problem with Mark Breadner at the event, and he said that they knew, and it was going to be addressed for 2013.

Being totally honest, I don't think Stade Uniprix is really the best venue Montreal has to offer for an FRC event. I would think that a QMJHL hockey arena or maybe McGill's athletic complex would be superior. (GTRWest has been played in an OHL hockey arena since its inception, and GTREast/Waterloo/FLR are in university athletic arenas) The actual stadium part of Stade Uniprix is an open-air stadium adjacent to the indoor tennis facility FRC used last year.

Growth numbers from 2012? AL shows 110% but has 11 teams this year and had 11 teams last year - is someone hiding somewhere? Also, technically the same number of teams would be zero percent growth, correct?

Sorry to nitpick - I love your stats Mark.

Yea, sorry it was poorly phrased/presented. I'll correct it.
I should have subtracted 100%.
The exceptions are a half dozen places that had 0 teams last year.

The AL count is a sort mistake on my part. One AL team at the very top of the sort got left out of the subtotal count.

I'll fix the numbers.

I actually appreciate the nitpicks, keep them coming.:)
I much prefer to have someone double-check my numbers for silly mistakes like the ones you pointed out. Especially, as I'm doing some of this by candlelight right now and can't easily double-check myself.

Mark, These numbers are great and just as I feared, Texas is bleeding teams.

Re: Registration 2013

Minnesota has officially gone over 170 teams as of today... Which means we've exceeded the "170 target" I had heard about!
