Do you think it's mostly due to jcp pulling out or are there other factors?

Apples to Oranges Apple halves? :)

This is a snapshot, so for a valid comparison to draw those kinds of conclusions, you have to compare the Texas numbers from comparable dates.

Last year on this date, Texas showed a -32.6% growth over the previous year, so this is actually 11% better than that.
The actual registration numbers for Texas on comparible dates are 2012: 97 teams vs 2013: 117 teams (currently ~20% growth), but remember this higher spurt is just last year's rookie teams registering earlier than they did last year.

P.S.
I could give growth over last year at this same time for every place.

This is a comparison of registration on the same date last year.
Only a few places have fallen behind last year's rate of registration.

Here's a map of the 2013 Rookie teams to date.

No new Hawaiian teams? That is sad. How many teams normally form after this date? (How many total teams form later than this date 1 year ago?)

310 teams joined after this date last year.
That includes returning veteran teams as well as new rookie teams.

Just rookies after this date last year were 141 of those teams, almost half.

These numbers are in terms of teams that actually stayed around and played. I'm not counting teams that formed, registered, but then dropped out before any competition.

I was just checking out MN... we have a 99.3% return rate from last year (only 1 team hasn't registered this year... with 2 months until kickoff, I'm still holding out hope!), and 25 rookies. I am constantly amazed at the job some of the local FIRST staff and volunteers do to keep our state engaged!

Jon,

I find this incredibly exciting as well! Do you know which team has yet to register?

I believe it's 2532 from Forest Lake. It would be nice to know what happened to them, and if they're coming back!

Finally reached 2400 teams.

Down to 12% growth over last year at this time.

Simply out of curiosity, have you generated a best fit curve for the data that you have (through the end of last year) on total teams registered year to year? How far off are we from this years "prediction?"

At Fish in the Boat's MoA event today I heard that they are combining with another team close to them. Not confirmed though, just a rumor passed around.

I believe if you register under a country other than Canada or the US, other will show up before the country's name.

Other is a placeholder for the state or province name. They don't have the administrative divisions of Turkey put in the system yet.
