FRC Hands on Workshop in San Diego

Hello San Diego FIRST FRC and FTC Teams!

Solar Turbines and 3DConnexion is proud to host a PTC’s hands-on
Product Development Workshop. The workshop is an intense one-day
workshop designed to teach FIRST teams, mentors and coaches about the
real world product development process. Emphasis is given to hands-on
exercises that will prepare the entire team to understand and
implement a product development process for their robot design. It
will also help develop team-building, entrepreneurship and design
skills.
Given the time frame, attendees will not acquire all the skills to
master the concepts in just one day. Resources will be made available
for further online training. This workshop is appropriate for both
FIRST Tech Challenge and FIRST Robotics teams.

There is room for the first 50 people that register. You may provide
your own laptop computer (sorry, no desktops.) Student provided
laptops may be loaded with the class software by visiting
www.ptc.com/go/firstgettingstarted and installing Creo 2.0 and
Mathcad. There will be up to 36 laptop computers available for
students and mentors to use, also available on a first registered,
first served basis. Laptops are requested through the survey link

Re: FRC Hands on Workshop in San Diego

Looks like we are going to be able to extend registration thru Thursday October 4, 2012. We have room for over 10 more students/mentors.

It's going to be a great event with over 36 registered from 6 different teams. There is no limit to how many from your team can attend and everyone will get something out of the sessions. 3D Connexion has even given us two 3D mice to give away!

If you can spend a Saturday in San Diego, think about joining us. Registration information is in the previous post.

Thank you and hope to see you there,

Re: FRC Hands on Workshop in San Diego

Workshop went off great! We had 34 participants from 10 different teams. I just wanted to post the information if anyone else was interested in the class material.

To get the software for the class (and the 2012-2013 season) go to:
http://www.ptc.com/company/community/first/teams.htm

Click on “Register for your free copy of Creo”
You will need to register for a PTC account if you haven't already done so. Setting up the account also requests your product code to install Creo which will be mailed to you in the next business day or so. You can then go ahead and download Creo (this takes some time depending on your connection.) You then have to wait for your product code to come in the mail in order to install.

You can download Mathcad Prime and install it without a license code and will run for 30 days. You’ll have to email firstsupport@ptc.com and request a permanent license. This will also take one business day or more.

To get the class information including exercises and the book go to:
http://www.ptc.com/company/community...jects.htm#stem

Open up STEM Projects and Select,
FIRST Hands-on Workshop Curriculum,
Save the zip file to your computer.
The main textbook is: “The Product Development Process” located in the folder the zip creates.
Explore the webpage, lots of other great resources here.

Have fun!
