2013 Orlando Regional
Might as well start this thread now since registration started today. So as of now we are at 31 teams of our initial 54 team capacity list here:
https://my.usfirst.org/myarea/index.lasso?page=teamlist&event_type=FRC&sort_team s=number&year=2013&event=flor Now with Orlando being SPAM's home regional I was expecting a few teams to come down to the regional but am shocked that as of right now at the number of teams that have chosen it as their first regional choice. (I am sure it has nothing to do at all with the theme parks in the area at all  ) Still welcome 125 & 348 from Massachusetts. 342, 1876 and Rookie team 4451 from South Carolina. 2158 from Texas and 1772 from Brazil. Also welcome back 3011 from Germany and 4091 from The Dominican Republic |
Re: 2013 Orlando Regional
2158, ausTIN CANs are very exicted to be attending Orlando this year! It is our very first out of state regional. Does any one have any tips tricks or secrets they would like to share about this event?

Try to get inspected as early as possible with about 60 teams the inspectors are very busy during crunch time The pits are a bit of a hike from the stands, try to avoid having people constantly having to go back and forth. If I think of anything else I will let you know |
Re: 2013 Orlando Regional
We're super pumped to attend our first competition in Florida since the 2002 National Championship.

Re: 2013 Orlando Regional
Really hope to get down there for this event, it's always a top notch regional! To out of state-ers, just know that you're coming to a very big regional, usually runs at a little over 60 teams, but because of that there is a lot of energy!!
Also, most people don't know this happens, but, you will see PINK team suck, it happens every year. But by the time Saturday afternoon rolls around, all of their bugs are magically fixed and their machine works flawlessly. I'm convinced that on Friday night they call in a witch-doctor to perform voo-doo on their robot. |

For my time as a student, 2009-2012, they have been building their robot on thursday and working out the bugs on friday. In 2009, they were a second round pick, but still won the regional. In 2010, they weren't even picked but went to Einstien that year. In 2011, they barely had a chassis put together in the crate, but they were the first pick by saturday afternoon, and won the regional. In 2012, they could barely shoot until elimination rounds, then took first place and then took 2nd in the world. I think it's AMAZING what they do, and if you're looking for a regional, this is one of the reasons this regional is special and a real treat to watch. Imagine in one match it's a pink chassis flying around the field, and then an hour later there is a minibot system, and four hours later they have a fully functional arm. Then an hour later they have an autonomous routine running perfectly, and next thing you know they win the regional! Some years it's more drastic than other years, but regardless, it's really cool!!! So come to Orlando!! |

Re: 2013 Orlando Regional
The date for the Logo Contest has been extended to Nov. 15th:
To help celebrate the 15th Anniversary of the Orlando FIRST Robotics Regional in March 2013, the Orlando Regional Planning Committee is conducting a contest to design a distinctive logo that reflects both the FIRST competition and our Central Florida heritage. The Orlando Regional 15th Anniversary logo should incorporate the FIRST logo although there are restrictions from FIRST about how it can be used (spacing, color, changing, etc.), outlined at http://www.usfirst.org/roboticsprogr...brand?id=17122. The contest is open to individuals on FRC teams in the State of Florida, other teams that have competed in the Florida (now Orlando) Regional, and all Regional volunteers. Submittals should be sent electronically (.jpeg or .png) to the Fundraising Committee at OrlandoFIRSTRegional@gmail.com by 5:00 p.m. on November 1, 2012. The winning entry will be displayed on the Orlando Regional website (www.floridafirstregional.com) following the winning selection. Please note that some additional editing of the winning logo may be applied before the logo is finalized. When sending your submittal, please include the following information in the email: your name, team name & number, email address, contact phone number and a paragraph on how you came up with the idea and your thoughts about the design. If you are able, please include a photo of yourself and your teammates with your logo design. The winning entry and its designer(s) will be recognized at the March 2013 competition and in the Regional Program Book, and the logo will be used on 15th Anniversary t-shirts that will be available for pre-order, and delivered at the competition. It may also be used on other items in honor of the Anniversary. It is possible that a version of the logo, without the 15th Anniversary reference, or one of the other submittals, may be used in future official Orlando FIRST Robotics items, correspondence, etc. A determination of whether to use the winning logo or an alternate will be made later, but this may help contest entrants in designing the 15th Anniversary Logo. All 15th Anniversary logo submissions will be the sole property of the Florida FIRST Robotics Education Foundation. © 2010 The United States Foundation for Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST®). Re: 2013 Orlando Regional
All I can say is wow, what an emotional roller coaster this weekend has been for 1592/801. I cannot convey in words how thankful I am to all the teams that helped us nor can I remember all of them as it was a hectic weekend. Hard to imagine right? Sorry if I miss your team, but all the help was appreciated.
744- Thank you for switching pits with us. With out being able to be right next to 801, it would have been really hard to accomplish what we did. 180- Thank you for all of your help and assisting in testing components for us. We were not sure what survived the crash and what did not. Whether it was motors or speed controllers, you were right there to help us out. Bryce was in our pit more than he was in his own on Thursday, which truly shows how deserving they were of the Gracious Professionalism award. 1251- Thanks for helping us test out our components as well and all of the offering of help throughout the weekend. Even though you were having some troubles of your own, you stepped up to the plate and asked us if we needed anything. You even offered us the use of your van the night of the crash. 1902- Thank you for the help at the crash site as well as offering us your kitbot frame. You even took us to your build space and offered us anything we needed. The Robo Show Staff- Thank you for coming to the crash site to help us move the robots into the trucks. We greatly appreciate how you waited for 3 hours for FHP to show up. 125- It was very gracious of you to offer us your full shooter assembly; fortunately we were able to salvage one of the damaged ones. You guys were awesome all weekend. Sorry if I missed anyone, but as I said it was a very busy weekend. To cap it all off, being an alliance captain was surreal after what happened Wednesday night, much less than on the same alliance with 801. I really thought we had a shot. Lastly, I want to say thank you to 86 for saying yes to join our alliance. I am sorry we were not running at 100%. We were a fierce alliance coming out of the number 7 slot - just imagine if we all actually worked at the same time lol. Again, thank you so much to everyone at the Orlando regional and the FIRST community for your support. We all consider this weekend a victory for every team that was there even though we got knocked out early. All I can say is we have a lot of work to do in two weeks to get back up to 100%. Look out Alamo here we come. Thanks Again to all from teams 801 and 1592, Zac |
Re: 2013 Orlando Regional
They showed a 15 year video right before the Elims. Is that going up on youtube or anywhere? Thought it was really cool.
Also big congrats to 744. They really deserved to win after all the years of hard work. |

I was extremely excited to see 744 finally take home the gold. Congrats to 1772 and 79 as well. That was a great alliance. |
Re: 2013 Orlando Regional
Another great regional, now that I have collected my thoughts about it. First of all 801 and 1592 what you guys did was amazing. 1772, 79 and 744 you guys played tough all regional and I know 79/744 very well these guys always come to play. Robotz garage you guys are what all FRC teams should aspire too, keep up the tremendous work . All the field crew and volunteers that made the event happen I want to say a big thank you from 1251. Moose and MARS our pit neighbors you guys rock every event and are so helpful. 1251 had our share of problems but we will be ready to go for South Florida at full strength. Finally, to all my alumni friends it was great seeing everyone, and guys keep up the roboshow.
