Re: What do you want to see in this years game?
something with a puzzle, different ways to score, and requires a more strategic approach

Re: What do you want to see in this years game?
Robots lifting robots for bonus OR coop points. I'm thinking 1 robot lifted by the opposing team is 1 coop point. You could get a maximum of 4 coop points.
Things that would be fun to see with this: 4 lifted robots for a bonus. 4 lifted robots by opposing team robots for full coop. Red robot helps a blue robot climb a red robot for a coop point and a bonus if the red robot gets up too. 3 robots lifted by an opposing robot for 3 coop points. I'd love to see how this would change strategy during qualification. |

Durable, non-ball game pieces.

Re: What do you want to see in this years game?
I agree with a couple of the people before me about a hill climb/obstacle course. There are a lot of real world applications to abot that can simply carry something over rough terrain. I was thinking a speed aspect would also be cool, ie you get extra points if you ferry a gamepiece to the other side in under ten seconds.
Another idea is variable terrain, possibly a buch of pieces that can be easily knocked down to incur penalties. Or small domes that can be moved around before each match and locked into place, so as to create obstacles which bots either have to go over around. A small variation on this might be urban terrain, ie doors, stairs, walls, bumps/curbs. Something else that would be cool is the other team being able to take your pieces away, and the final score is decided by how many pieces you still have on your side. |

Tetras and Hanging Bars would make a good game in my opinion.

Re: What do you want to see in this years game?
A stacking game with game pieces based on the First logo shapes, ie. triangle extrusion, cylinder, cube.

Re: What do you want to see in this years game?
I've been hearing people say "a stacking game" for 6 months now, and I agree, that does seem to make sense... but I also think it's a little too obvious to have a game centered around stacking game pieces.
Given the recent patterns, any sports-related games/game pieces are out (so footballs and frisbees, both of which would be pretty awesome) for this year. I also think tubes are out... we've seen them twice in the past 6 years, it'll take another year or two before we see them again. I would like to see them do something with a wall in the middle of the field - there's a portion of the field that your drivers can't see directly, where you can score points. This could be assisted with the camera and/or with the human player, who could gesture from across the field where that area is visible. |

This last season we learned that vision processing was difficult, only handled well by a few teams. Viewing unprocessed video on the driver's station was fairly common though. |
Re: What do you want to see in this years game?
I think I've said this quite a few times by now, but there needs to be a much more convincing reason for Kinect usage. Offering points for using it is not the way to go. A competitive advantage, likely from being able to react to a changing situation, is the best way* to do it. I believe that autonomous with Kinect would be best done in an autonomous mode like Aim High or Lunacy, where all robots would move at eachother and being able to have some control, or at the very least a mode switcher, would be the best choice. An Overdrive-style hybrid mode, where the hybrid control would be used to compensate for randomness in the game is not the best way to use it, as it encourages programming the Kinect as nothing more than a mode switcher.
TL;DR: If Kinect's in, it would be best used where actual control is needed. |

You said that and part of me died inside. As if climbing robots werent hard enough, lets make them fly.... --eek-- |
Re: What do you want to see in this years game?
It's less of a particular piece to the game and more of an overarching principle, but I want a less restrictive set of robot restrictions. While having rules like the 84" cylinder or the single 14" appendage can add to the arbitrary "challenge" of the game, I would rather trade that off for the increased creativity allowed without those limits.

Re: What do you want to see in this years game?
You know what I want to see in this year's game? THE RETURN OF REGOLITH AND HARD PLASTIC WHEELS!!!!11!1!.
Not Really. Honestly, I want to see a game with playground balls and moveable goals. maybe like a combination of Lunacy and some of the old games from back in 2000 or 2001. |
Re: What do you want to see in this years game?
There are a few things that I would like to see but before I get into that I would like to make my guess on what the game is going to be instead of what I would like to see.
In the past they have made the game relate to modern day events. For example, the Lunacy game was the 40th anniversary of the moon landing and the Rebound Rumble game was during the NBA lockout. The only major event going on lately (that I can think of) is the robot landing on Mars. So I think that this year's game will be about the Martian landing. Now onto what I would like to see is the integration of pyramids, cubes, and spheres to kind of make the FIRST logo 3D. You could do the bonus like in the Logomotion game but the robots would be more interesting because they would have to have the ability to pick up all the different shapes and different sizes. |
Re: What do you want to see in this years game?
Just a note that Rebound Rumble didn't intentionally occur doing the NBA lockout. Really the only intentional one was Lunacy.
That said... .... ..... They just found old evidence of water on Mars. I <3 Red Herrings |
Re: What do you want to see in this years game?
I think that 10lb Medicine Balls would be a really cool game piece. They are easily available, and they would be much different than other ball games. Seeing as we have seen ball games. If there is a stacking game I hope they use a scale to score. This would provide real time scoring.
