Greetings,
FIRST team 1086: Blue Cheese is looking forward to our first trip to Baltimore. We have heard great things about this event and can't to experience it for ourselves! |
Re: 2013 Chesapeake Regional in Baltimore
449 is extremely excited to come back to Chesapeake! Looks like the whole week 7 thing is giving Chesapeake some very interesting dynamics.
Some things that stand out to me;
Personally, I'm supper excited that MOE is coming down, and we could always use some Moe' green at Chesapeake! Can't wait for competition! |

Lots more info to come as we get a little closer to week 7!
But introducing FIRST Stop. Take part in our FIRST Stop program for a guided tour by FIRST ambassadors or grab a FIRST Stop card for your own self-tour! We will be recruiting lots of student ambassadors. More information on the Chesapeake website. Best wishes to all the week 2 events! |
Re: 2013 Chesapeake Regional in Baltimore
We snuck in at the last second ;)
This will be our first Chesapeake, and we're totally psyched! |
Re: 2013 Chesapeake Regional in Baltimore
Can wait to come back as a FIRST alumni and see my team compete at Chesapeake regional as well as all the other amazing robots on the field.

Re: 2013 Chesapeake Regional in Baltimore
Our scouting team using electronic scouting through a laptop. We're concerned about keeping it powered at the regional. Does anyone know if there is a location we can keep it plugged in and still be watching the matches.
Thank you, -Bernie |
Re: 2013 Chesapeake Regional in Baltimore
We have been taking an old robot battery and and inverter to the stands for the last couple of years. This gives us power without the extension cords. Just charge the battery or exchange it at lunch and you can run your laptops all day.:D I hope Chesapeake Regional is as good as it was last year. 192 GRT had a great time. Good luck.

Re: 2013 Chesapeake Regional in Baltimore
Team 375 cant wait. This is going to be our first year here. We just competed in the NYC regional and are going to take the things we learned from there to make our debut at Baltimore even better.:D

Re: 2013 Chesapeake Regional in Baltimore

We are excited to announce the Chesapeake Regional is the very first TEDxBaltimore Adventure! We will be offering a "behind the scenes" look at the event with interactive tours. Thanks to the local TEDx organizers & community for spreading the word.
We will also be introducing a new visitor program this year - FIRST Stop. See attached invite. Teams are welcome to use this invite for their "invited guests". We will make sure to connect them right away with your team. Please distribute to anyone who might want to visit the competition. Both the TEDx program and FIRST Stop will need a lot of student ambassadors. This is a lot of fun and many students really shine in this role. Training will take place on Thursday for time slots on Friday & Sat. Please spread the word to your team. Information about the event has gone out to all the teams via the RD & Senior Mentor. We at team 4464 are looking forward to the Chesapeake regional. We had a blast at DC, and can't wait to get right back into FRC action!
Being a mentor for both 4464 and 449, this is easily the regional I've been anticipating most. Good luck to all teams that are participating. See you there! |
Re: 2013 Chesapeake Regional in Baltimore
Week 7 seemed so far away...
but here we go! FIRST Stop is still recruiting student ambassadors. Training will take place on Thursday at 10am. This is a fun job! We are also going to need help from the teams to "adopt" visitors for a few minutes to sit with their team in the cozy stands, while explaining the game. We are trying to do Dean's homework and have a lot of visitors coming. Visit the Chesapeake website: http://www.mdfirst.org/programs/firs...-regional.html |

Re: 2013 Chesapeake Regional in Baltimore
Jeff beat me to it. 0 days to go.
Early load in tonight from 6-8 pm for 5 team members just to drop off. Information about the event including webcast here: http://www.mdfirst.org/programs/firs...-regional.html Read the load in instructions. It's supposed to hit 90 degrees today but will be cooling down as the week goes on. Bring your raincoat for Friday. Among the volunteers we have a team of AmeriCorps-NCCC. These 18-24 year olds are devoting a year of service to various projects and FIRST was able to engage them for the Chesapeake & DC regionals. Be sure to say hi to the hardworking crew in the grey shirts. |
Team 45 is so excited as we are travelling by bus to Baltimore right now.

Re: 2013 Chesapeake Regional in Baltimore
The webcast says its offline for me. Does anyone else have this?
|
Re: 2013 Chesapeake Regional in Baltimore
We are having some issues on our end with the stream. Currently we are running video only. We will need to take the stream down to resolve our audio issue. Hoping to get it fixed when Qualifying matches finish up today.
Thanks everyone for your patience on this! Cheers, Mike |
Re: 2013 Chesapeake Regional in Baltimore

We haven't had any really big problems today with the stream. The matches have occasionally dropped due to the bandwith being used at the Convention Center. We are keeping tabs on it.

Re: 2013 Chesapeake Regional in Baltimore
Thank you.
To the 64 FRC teams. To the 150+ volunteers. To all those Jr.FLL teams at the Expo (and the parade), to the FTC teams, and to the FLL ones too. To everyone who helped with the inaugural FIRST Stop visitor program, including all the outstanding student ambassadors who took the training seriously and made the event shine. To the adult ambassadors who led the TEDxBaltimore Adventure tours and helped manage all those visitors for FIRST Stop. To the NASA Robotics Alliance and the staff in the mobile machine shop. To the amazing alumni who are running the event in lead roles (looking at you Greg, Anne, Steve, Courtney, Jeff, Andrea, Tim for starters) and all the other alumni who volunteered, and stopped by. And finally, thank you to our Senator Barbara Mikulski, who spent 2.5 hours at the Chesapeake today- listening to the stories, watching the action, and asking some great questions. We were so honored. |
Congrats to the winners! We were kind of suprised we weren't picked, but we definately were extremely happy with the progress of the robot. Thanks to all of our alliance partners through-out the weekend and thank you to all the volunteers that helped make Chesapeake possible.
|
Re: 2013 Chesapeake Regional in Baltimore
Wow! Great competition! Although we didn't get past the qualification rounds (we didn't get picked), we have a lot of fun and met a LOT of great people! Like others, our robot did pretty well after many improvements, even though our ranking was low. We're proud of what we have done in the past 3 days.
Next up - Battle of Baltimore! |
Re: 2013 Chesapeake Regional in Baltimore
From the perspective of a volunteer and spectator... I don't even know where to start. I had an absolutely incredible experience at the Chespeake Regional, so there's a lot of things I want to say!
This was my first time attending Chesapeake, not to mention my first time volunteering at a regional. All of the volunteers whom I met were extremely welcoming. I love the fact that this regional includes such a strong program for Jr. FLL, the expo, and is incorporating one for FLL as well. The energy and excitement definitely made these students even more excited about STEM and their own challenges. As for FRC, these matches were among some of the exciting ones I've seen this year (especially those nail-biting finals matches). Shout-out to Robert and Mike, the AmeriCorps Vistas for DC and Baltimore - I know both of you put a lot of work into this event and it definitely showed! I had a great time working with everyone, can't wait for next year. |
Re: 2013 Chesapeake Regional in Baltimore
What another great Chesapeake Regional, thanks planning committee and Bill Duncan! I had a blast working with all the students, mentors, volunteers, and everyone else at the event!
A huge congratulations to 2199, The Robo-Lions, on earning the Regional Chairman's Award! You guys definitely deserve it! We look forward to seeing you in St. Louis. Congratulations to 3941, Absolute Zero Electricity, on earning the Engineering Inspiration Award. It is good to see your program go through all levels of FIRST, and at such a high level. I can't wait to see what you all do in the upcoming years. I couldn't be happier for Michele Kosin on earning the Woodie Flowers Finalist Award. You are a true role model and great member of the FIRST community! Congratulations to 329, 1708, and 2638 for winning the Regional. You guys made for some very exciting elimination matches. I look forward to seeing those who are going Championships in St. Louis. Thanks again to everyone for making the event a very fun and exciting event to be a part of! |
