There are 50 teams registered so far with 3 spots left open. I expect they will be filled very soon, most likely before the 2nd regional registration date (Next Thursday). I am super excited for the event and it will be my sixth year attending this regional!

On behalf of the MN teams I would like to welcome team 525 from Iowa back to 10,000 Lakes again this year! So far they are the only out-of-state team attending.

There are currently 132 (10/17 9:30am) teams in Minnesota, I am personally expecting there to be around 160 team in Minnesota this year. With my assumption that means 28 teams have yet to register, between the two Duluth Regionals and the two Twin Cities Regionals there are 40 non-waitlist spots remaining. If the 28 teams were evenly distributed between the four regionals, it means 7 teams from Minnesota for each regional have yet to register.

Re: 2013 Minnesota 10,000 Lakes Regional

We haven't been to 10,000 Lakes since 2009 (or North Star since 2010), but we absolutely loved our time up there. Some day we hope to come back. Looking at all of the team numbers, the population has grown quite a bit since our last visit.

Question: Do you see a lot of teams trade-off between the two Minneapolis events, or do most teams stick with one of the two year after year?

Re: 2013 Minnesota 10,000 Lakes Regional

Keep in mind that both 10,000 Lakes and North Star had 60+ teams the past few years... for most regionals, they'll list the open capacity low initially, so they have some room later on to add rookie teams that signed up late. It also lets them pull in some additional teams from the wait list.

With the layout at 10,000 Lakes, there's no reason to go with fewer teams this year. Other regionals, like North Star, could see fewer regionals if there was a big change made, like a larger field, since the pits are in the same arena as the field and not separated.

Most teams generally stick with one and just go with it - you get to know the teams there and make friends. We switched from 10,000 Lakes to North Star two years ago for a change. It was good we did... the previous 3 years we were finalists, and that year we won!

Teams 2470 and 3081 from Bloomington, MN have always gone to 10,000 Lakes year after year. There are some teams that have been at North Star for so long I barely remember who they are (I am working on it though). So yes, I would say that they stick with one of the two regionals year after year. I'm not saying that is because one is better than the other, it just happens that way.

Also you guys should come back to Minnesota! I hope I didn't scare you off from Minnesota back in 2009 during eliminations when I consistently rammed your robot to stop you from getting those precious empty cells! :p

I was extremely happy when I heard that, you guys deserved the win after being finalists for 3 years in a row!

The number I've heard a few times is ~170.

Personally, I hope they hold the number of teams at 10K Lakes and North Star closer to 55 than 60+. One of the reasons our students have elected to not return to 10K this year is that it was far too crowded last year and they did not find it all that enjoyable (even though we were Finalists). That experience, coupled with our spring break and it being Easter weekend, will be keeping 2530 from returning this year.

I'm hoping to be able to come up at least one day just to watch and see a lot of old friends.

Most teams i believe stick to just the one, and dont switch off ( on a regular basis at least) So that means the Fighting Calculators will be at North Star again, hopefully i can find a time to get over there and see a few matches or run the live stream station.

I've heard that number as well, I always feel a need to lower my personal estimate so when it does go over I can be surprised.

I've been meaning to head over to North Star the past few years, I enjoyed competing with your team back in 2008 at 10K Lakes... Love the Fighting Calculator mascot!

Sounds fun!
I wish we could attend, but the scheduling doesnt work for us.
We are already planning to drive from Minneapolis to Duluth for Week 2, and back prior to flying to Chicago for the Boilermaker regional during Week 3.
Wouldve been nice to just do the tournament in Minneapolis instead.

Been there twice during the winter and its about the only time I experienced negative degree weather.:ahh:

I always love coming to this event each year. Definitely a unique venue and U of M is an awesome university. The twin cities are a great place to visit, with great teams and great people and there is a ton to do around the area. See you all in March!

This will be my 3rd year at 10k lakes and I love the teams there it always seems like there is a good balance of stellar teams and developing teams. The volunteers are pretty cool though I feel like they should open up more seating and have a more lenient about bringing in personal food because dinky town is limited to how many people it can feed and during lunch period lines extend out of most food places. But aside from that the campus allows good free space to get out and get some fresh air.

This is my fourth year at 10,000 lakes and my 2705's fifth year at 10,000 lakes. I personally love the atmosphere at 10,000 lakes and can't wait for the regional this year. I love seeing the same faces at 10,000 lakes year after year and some of the new face! Can't wait to see everyone there this upcoming season!

Team 3313 has attended 10,000 Lakes 3 years in a row and this year will mark the 4th. We were the wobbly scissor lift back in 2011. Haha.

It is always a good time at Williams Arena and it's fun to see quite a few of the same teams year after year. We are looking forward to seeing everyone again this March!

Two new rookies from Minnesota have registered for this event, 4651 from Eyota, MN and 4664 from Andover, MN.

It will not allow me to edit my original post, so if a mod/admin reads this and had the ability to do so it would be much appreciated if they were added. Thanks!

Only 1 spot left before 10,000 lakes goes to wait pool status. Who wants it bad enough to switch their current regional commitment?

4667, a rookie team from Temixco, MR, Mexico takes the spot! This is the first time an out-of-country team has attended the MN 10K Lakes Regional.

You definitely aren't the only one who would like more leniency on bringing food into the venue. However, the U's contract with vendors inside of the arena prohibits event-goers from bringing food, and that extends to all events held in the arena.

If you find that Dinkytown isn't quite cutting it, there is additional food in Stadium Village (on Washington Ave just east of the University).

This is the first year team 2861 isn't attending 10,000 Lakes as it interferes with our spring break as well, but instead we are taking the four hour journey to Duluth for the Northern Lights Regional! We shall miss everyone at 10,000 Lakes. Good luck to all teams with their 2013 build season!

10K is about the only time I'm glad to have reactive hypoglycemia and intolerance to a boatload of food ingredients. Basically, I have to eat every hour or so (no joke, I've had it cleared with teachers to eat during class :ahh:) and I basically take my lunchbox in with a sheet saying "medical supplies". I don't recommend this if you don't actually need it, but I'm glad to be able to have food on hand, since my teammates (including Camren :o) have seen what I'm like when I haven't eaten. This is the one time I've seen them be lenient on the food issue. We assumed it'd be the same at St. Louis so I brought the same sheet, but they weren't even inspecting bags there (I think other people brought food into the Dome, but not the pits ::safety::).

I'm glad everyone still has a positive atmosphere to bring to this regional. As my last time on the team this year, and first year for roughly 90% of our team I'll be glad to know that when they get there they are coming to the same regional that wowed me my first year.

Alright, it's one of those dreaded "bumps", but I'm surprised this thread hasn't been active since February.

THE REGIONAL STARTS IN 2 DAYS! WHO'S EXCITED?!

:D :D :D :D

There. I used all four of my smilies for that.

There should be some great competition! One of last year's winners, 525, has already won Northern Lights. 2052 has already won Lake Superior. And who knows what this year's vets and rookies have to offer!

Another of last year's winners, 3747, is not at 10K this year. They always do well, so best of luck to them at North Star!

And best of luck to all teams in Week 5 events!

Congratulations to all of the award winners!

Great job 2052, 525 and 3244 on winning the regional and beating out the 30-point climbing alliance of 2502, 2705 and 2501.

Thank you everyone for a great event I had a TON of fun scorekeeping and mentoring my team. Looking forward to seeing everyone again next year!

What an absolutely fantastic, fun event.

Team 3313 wishes to congratulate all award winners and non-award winners. Simply building a competition level robot can, and always is, a monumental achievement.

Special congrats to
Regional Winners: 2052, 525, and 3244
Regional Finalists: 2502, 2705, and 2501
Chairman's Award: 525
Rookie All-Star: 4667
Engineering Inspiration: 3018

It was personally my 3rd year at the event and it was so fantastic to see so many familiar faces and meet so many new ones.

This is not the end however. I hope to see many of our BFFteams at the MSHSL Championships in May! As well as future off seasons events such as MRI, Minne-Regional, and SPLASH Training (plus many others!).

Thanks again for a great event and a lot of fun everyone!
