2012 BAA Education Day in Maryland - Nov. 3
The Baltimore Area Alliance teams will be once again hosting an Education Day, on Sat. Nov. 3.
Thank you to the Johns Hopkins University/Applied Physics Lab (JHU/APL) STEM Program Management Office for sponsoring this day. The sessions are open to all students, mentors, parents, administrators and champions from any FRC team in Maryland. Other participants may be welcome if space allows. Registration is required (detailed information on sessions & parking has been distributed to all FRC teams in MD). The sessions are free, but a $5 donation is required for lunch. Presenters include FRC mentors, Senior Mentors, and FRC alumni from a variety of teams. This is always a great learning and networking day. Sessions include: New to FRC; RoboParents; Year Round FRC systems Planning; Branding and Entrepreneurship; Fundraising; Mentoring Roundtable; Motors 101; Drive Train Systems; Pneumatic Systems; Electricity and Electronics; Electrical Wiring and Systems for FRC; Putting it all Together; Preparing for Competition; Getting Through Inspection; Judging 101; Web Resources for FRC Teams; Website and Video Production; Chairman's Award panel; and sessions on Labview and Autodesk Inventor training. Email me with inquiries. |

I think we have approaching 300 people and 25 teams signed up for tomorrow. I have seriously lost count because even though registration ended on Nov. 1, I am still getting emails.
Most of these sessions should be posted on mdfirst.org after the Education Day. This has been a tremendous group effort with lots of people raising their hand to contribute. It will be fun to see everyone tomorrow. |

Is there somewhere where files from the presentations will be posted?

This was an all volunteer effort involving the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab STEM Program Office, 26 presenters (some doing all day sessions), discounted food from Famous Dave's and Greene Turtle, and 25 teams attending, both rookie and veterans. The BAA spent less than $150 on the effort (we treated the presenters to lunch). There was a whole lot of information shared. Thanks to all! |

It was a truly great event. There was a full house in almost everyone of the sessions. There were a lot of young and rookie teams getting help and sharing ideas with the veterans.
I learned a lot, even though this is my 9th season. I would also like to thank the BAA for allowing us to present on a few of the topics. The presentations should be added to the MDFIRST site in the near future (I just sent them to RoboMom a few minutes ago). |

Sorry that MOE wasn't able to send someone down to help out with some of the sessions. (Too much going on this month!) It sounded like a wonderful program - all regions should do something similar. MOE is looking forward to seeing you all at the Chesapeake Regional!
