Another sad loss for FIRST
There seems to be a lot of these lately. John Metz passed away on the 27th after a long battle with cancer. Most of you probably don't know the name, but John led the Boeing FIRST grant effort for the local Philadelphia area. He more than led it; he was very active in persuading Boeing to grant money in various ways to many teams. Those of us who have received these grants should be very thankful for his efforts.
John became active in FIRST eight years ago when his son, Mike, was a member of MOE. Our sympathies go out to his wife Jackie and his family. http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/del...&pid=160744247 |

Wow, this is incredibly sad news. Myself and all of 3929 send our condolences to the Metz family. Thanks to his efforts, we are also a Boeing team. Definitely a big loss to FIRST.

Re: Another sad loss for FIRST
I can't say enough good things about John Metz. When I first hired in at the Boeing site in Philadelphia, he welcomed me in and introduced me to the other site's FIRST mentors. He organized tours for teams to come on-site and visit the wind tunnel, aircraft simulators & production lines. Any time I saw him, he was always wanting to know how my team was doing and how I was doing. Up until this year, he was on the board that helped distribute the Boeing grants to teams across the nation and helped provide funding to hundreds of FRC teams. He will be sorely missed.
