I have seen Mecanum and Omni wheels in industry quite a bit lately, and usually not in contact with the floor (as shown in the OP). My favorite use so far was at a water park, where omniwheels were used on a platform, much like the picture in the OP, to move around the big family water rafts. I would liked to have taken a picture, but I liked more to not have taken a camera on a water slide.

Watching a Mythbusters episode (Propane tank rocket/pain tolerance) I saw a Window motor and mecanum wheels within a 10 second period.

If anyone was interested in those wheels specifically, I believe they are manufactured/distributed by Kornylak.

Our 2008 robot had both mecanum wheels and a sissor lift! And we would have made it to nationals if not for a potentiometer breaking.:D

on last year's rules, sure. Maby this year making something like that will be the game (chance is lower then water game but you never know)
