Awesome news! I was hoping that such a solution would become available. I was looking for this when trying to write some tutorials, but had difficulty recommending a single host. This is definitely getting some higher priority now. Thanks guys.

Awesome! We have lots of good info up on https://help.github.com and http://git-scm.com that you could easily steal and distill down to a nice tutorial.

I'm really excited to work with John to offer you all some resources this year. I did FIRST in varying capacities from 2002 until 2006 and then mentored a FLL team in 2010. So, I'll be around to answer any Git, GitHub, web development, etc. questions any of you might have.

Looking forward to seeing any tutorials you produce! Drop me a message with a link if you get a chance. :)

This is awesome! This is also good for FTC teams using RobotC. I wrote up a tutorial on Git for FTC on the official FTC forum (http://ftcforum.usfirst.org/showthre...-RobotC-in-FTC), so if anyone wants to read it, I bet it would be helpful for FRC teams, too.

Did you only write it for the command-line version? Have you also written one on something like TortoiseGIT?
I don't know about CAD files, but LabVIEW files can be compared, just like text files. (You just need to use the compare app)

For those who aren't familiar with Git/Github, here's a really good introduction to the workflow

Hmm... Maybe I'm impatient, but I requested an account (free public) as described and noted in the comments that this is for an FRC team. I also emailed jdb. No response and my organization account (FRC2530) is still free/public.

Should my account get upgraded now, or have I not followed the correct process ?

Big thanks to GitHub for providing this for the teams. GitHub is a great model for this purpose, since it allow full source control capabilities while at competitions when you have no network connection.

Hm, I don't see a ticket for you in our help system. Email me (jeremy@github) and I'll take care of it! :)

Fixed already! Thanks.

I just wanted to pop in here and say good luck to all the teams this year. The response to this thread has been amazing. I've seen and approved tons of requests from FIRST teams.

Sorry if there's a little bit of lag time between the request and having the discount applied. I've automated as much of it as I can, but there's still some manual review involved.

Thank you GitHub :)

I wanted to vote for this thread to get a sticky, this is a great donation, I'd hate to see teams go unaware of the opportunity to use such a great tool.

We just finished up a brand new FIRSTocat design, check it out in the Octodex.

We've got these as die-cut stickers for teams using GitHub to stick on their bots (and human team members).

If you'd like some for your team send an email to education@support.github.com with your shipping address and the number of people on your team.

I emailed and Elizabeth responded saying these stickers were not available.
