Re: 2012 Madtown Throw Down

Hi all,

did anyone notice comms problems on the Blue side after the qualifiers?
(1) We were dead after autonomous, and had intermittent problems in the second match (we would have lost to the other side anyways).
(2) if you look at the stats Red won everytime except once - and once it was a disqual for Red. This seems statistically significant.

Thanks,
Dean

Our team personally had no connection problems when we were on the blue side of the field. However, I believe our alliance partner 3256 had one instance where they lost connection for about 10 seconds.

It's a statistically significant difference because in the quarterfinals, the red alliance is the higher seed. The #2 seed is red until the finals, and the #1 seed is red the entire way through. These seeds are nicely correlated with winning.

Congrats 1323, 971, and 1324 on your win! You guys were a joy to watch.

On behalf of 399, I'd like to thank all of the teams that lent a helping hand to us. During our last qualification match, our shooter gear boxes decided to jam. As we scrambled to find the correct tools and replacement parts, we truly appreciated the assistance we received from 973, 971, and 1323. We wouldn't have had a shooter in the eliminations without you guys.

We had to pack light for this trip as we had 5 robots on our bus(399, 6399, 3647, 2339, 2493). I'm glad we had some friends to fall back on.

Thanks Man,

It was extremely fun to have 399 come out here and bring not only their robot but our friends from San Diego and Riverside (SISK!) bots as well. I'd like to thank all the teams for coming out, especially our friends on 973 for supporting the event the last three years. It was a very fun event and we again raised $2,000+ for cancer/abby. Special thanks to:

-James Tonthat, we can't thank you enough for flying out of Texas to help us out with the event!

-Austin/Micheal Schuh, it was awesome to have you guys help us with FMS and trouble shoot all robot communication issues. The event ran really smooth, we made all of our matches and we finished 20 minutes ahead of schedule!

-Andrew Nabors/1671, we honestly couldn't have ran this event without you guys. 1671 helped with the field/audio/fms/scoring/field setup and teardown.

-Eugene Fang/Alec, it was awesome having you guys out here and the webcast/live scoring was awesome.

The Results are here:

The videos of 1323 playing are here:

We will have the entire event up on TBA in the following weeks.

Dean,

1) We weren't told of any comms issues or noticed any. But next time, please do let me or Austin/Andrew know.

2) The red alliance normally wins due to being #1 seed/#2 seed. You will most likely get the next best robots at the event. At MTTD, since it was #1-8 #1-8 in terms of picking. The top 4 seeds shoudl've been the strongest.

Thanks for clarifying the seed sequence - that would indeed account for the difference in scores.

RC, we did talk to Austin/Andrew, they didn't see any probs during our match when we died. We never had any coms problems throughout the season despite many reported problems, so it was a bit surprising. Also in our last match we had a bunch of 10-sec blackouts.

No worries, it was all great fun! and thanks again for hosting a wonderful event!

Its a lot of hard work & it is much appreciated.

Thanks,
Dean

some day we are gong to make the trip for Madtown. Step 1, get a robot out there. Step 2, get the rest of the team out there.

Thanks to Adam Heard on 973 for reaching out to us and asking to borrow Phoenix for a rookie team. I can't express how cool it is to build a robot that others want to compete with.

It's hard to beat the 1st seed in eliminations when 30 of 36 shots taken in autonomous go in the basket.

Eugene and Alex great job on the YouTube videos. Real cool the way you set that up.
