Passing of Jacqueline Ha

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I am posting this.

A close friend and family member of teams 254, 968 and 1538, is no longer with us.

Jacqueline Ha was a former student and returning mentor of Team 968 since 2005. Jacqueline was involved in many aspects of FIRST, but, mostly known for her outstanding mentorship of teams in the state of California. She has volunteered at a number of regionals and multiple world championship events. FIRST was Jacqueline's passion.

After graduating high school, Jacqueline strived to become a nurse to better the lives of many. She then enlisted as a combat medic specialist with the 272nd Battalion of the U.S. Army.

Jacqueline lost her battle with cancer Monday, November 12th, 2012. She is survived by her husband, Bryce, her parents, her two brothers and a sister. She loved this program and will forever be remembered as part of the FIRST family, family member and friend.

We're so sorry to hear of her passing.

Jackie had more passion for FRC than any two students ever could.

Team 980 offers its sincere condolences to her family, and her friends from RAWC, the Poofs and Holy Cows, and many others in the FRC community for her loss.

This is certainly sad news for me to wake up to this morning. While I knew she was battling cancer, I had no idea it had progressed this far. Although Jacqueline and I lost touch after she got married and joined the Army, we were close friends for a number of years while we were both mentors on Team 968 RAWC. Now hearing that she is gone makes it seem like only yesterday we were bowling at the Brunswick lanes in West Covina, watching Spider Man 3 in theaters, or dressed up nice attending another team mentor's wedding. Just the other day I was looking at a hand-drawn birthday card she made me some number of years ago - I wish I could remember which of my birthdays it was from.

Stay in touch with your friends; you never know when they may be gone.

Jacqueline had a wonderful sense of humor and a great enthusiasm for FIRST. She will certainly be missed. As I try to focus on my work today, it's tough to not think about all the great times we had, both inside and outside of FIRST.

As someone who lost a friend and fellow FIRSTer this summer to Depression, I want you to know that your team and her family and friends are all in my thoughts and prayers. May you find peace in honoring her memory in whatever way you choose.

I effing hate cancer. One of you smart kids needs to get to work on solving this problem, like yesterday.
