I remain somewhat surprised that Las Vegas still has spots open - seems like it would be a prime destination for many, looks like it's in a great venue. We're looking forward to it :)

It's certainly not something I've heard of before. Honestly, for me the first thing that comes to mind when I think of Vegas is CES. |

Re: FRC Blogged - Blog Clarification
Aww, come on...we won't bite;) We are use to hearing of districts that won't allow their kids to come to our city to compete because of perceptions that are in good part due to media productions and even our own visitors authority marketing focus aimed at enticing adults to play hard and spend prolifically. There is a whole community of regular folks and families who live and even worship here (yes we have actual churches and weddings without Elvis) and even a growing technological community. Sure we are a city of 2 million with the same challenges you find in other large cities...even St. Louis where I feel less safe than here. For those of you with enlightened superintendents and principals, and planning to attend, expect another well run regional event and a great time in and outside of the venue. The level of competition is going to be outstanding (check out the list of many "top 20" teams signed up). If you can't join us, be sure to catch another webcast sponsored by Team 987!

I will certainly step up and say that the Las Vegas Regional was a bunch of fun for our team when we went a few years back. It is a natural if you have to fly because often the airfares are very reasonable. We found a local hotel that was nice and reasonable in cost also.
We made some great friends there and always keep an eye on that regional. The only reason we have not been back is that our state has been adding new regionals and we have been trying to support all of them. To be honest, other than a few flyers littering the streets, the event was no different at all from any others. The "shady" nature of Las Vegas is mostly hype and as long as you have proper chaperones ... it is a great place to play! I would encourage any team to look into it. The people running the regional are warm and cordial and you will feel right at home. |

As a site note, one of the nicest Catholic churches I've been to was in Las Vegas. Incidentally, I was there for a wedding. |

I tried to convince 79 to go went to DC instead (a city with a probably more well deserved reputation for ripping people off)... Maybe I'll make it out to Defcon or Blackhat this year though. |

Team 341 is really excited about attending the LVR this year.
Having met some really nice folks from 987 at Champs last year, convinced me that they are a class act. The list of teams is just fun, including 5 international teams. The only thing we are struggling with right now is that airfares are very high for that weekend. But I am sure we will get it figured out. We are looking forward to making some new friends in Las Vegas! |

2 years ago we were going to register for Waterloo until our administration said no international travel. We were surprised that this included Canada.
