A CD Project: Transcribe 1114 Strategy Video
Hey all -
I've been trying to get my mentors to watch 1114 Strategy Session and they have had a hard time following because of the audio quality. So - I've been thinking. . . what if we had a group of people on CD work together to transcribe and caption the video. Its a long one - otherwise I'd do it myself. If I can get people to get the text written down, I'd be willing to use a subtitle program I have to add the titles to the video. Anyone interested? |
Re: A CD Project: Transcribe 1114 Strategy Video
I'd be up for doing that. Just pm me a section and I'll work that this weekend. I've watched it enough that I can recite some parts from memory already ::rolleyes::

For those of us who haven't seen the video, can you provide a link to it?

If someone from 1114 is reading this, would you be willing to look into this? |

Re: A CD Project: Transcribe 1114 Strategy Video
Hello all -
I have finished preparing the Google Doc so that we can sign out and in segments of the strategy video. You can find the doc at http://tinyurl.com/1114trans The instructions for how to proceed are on the doc file. We still need people to help. The more that are willing to transcribe a five minute portion of the video, the more swiftly this will be accomplished and I'd love to be able to have this done before build season gets started. Thanks |

The feed from Karthik's mic was not used for the recording. The recording was fed from a microphone at the back of the room. The compression further distorted the sound. |

Is the idea to re-upload this video with permanent subtitles, or use the YouTube captioning tool, or something else entirely? |

Re: A CD Project: Transcribe 1114 Strategy Video
What does the following line from the instructions mean?
"Please keep each transcripted line to one or two sentences." How do you want our transcription formatted? |

Re: A CD Project: Transcribe 1114 Strategy Video
Hi everyone,
Basically I plan on embedding the subtitles into the video. Remember that subtitles cannot be too long in a chunk..so if you type up one or two sentences and then add a line break, it will be easier for me to align the time along with the text. If you give me chunks I will break it down but it will take a bit longer. I am already getting transcriptions returned. Thanks so much for the hard work, everyone. |
Re: A CD Project: Transcribe 1114 Strategy Video
Hi all -
Just a quick report. We have 50 minutes of time already checked out with 20 minutes returned to me to encode on the video. Please feel free to sign out more than one block if you wish. I wanted to give a special thanks to AllenGregoryIV for transcribing five minutes of the video and returning it as well as Patrick Flynn and KelliV for transcribing two segments a piece. Please consider transcribing five minutes of team 1114's video. I know I learned a ton from watching it and feel that with subtitles, many others will as well. Again, the Google Doc for checking out timeslots is http//tinyurl.com/1114trans and the video is located at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Apk_X-maRf8 |
Re: A CD Project: Transcribe 1114 Strategy Video
Another report:
Its pretty amazing! We currently have 75 minutes checked out with over 45 minutes completed. For those who have never transcribed before - this is a pretty mean feat. A special thanks to Siri who has transcribed 10 minutes and to AllenGregory for five minutes of transcription. KeliV has transcribed 10 minutes so far and our MVP at the moment is Patrick Flynn who has done twenty minutes worth of transcription - and probably has memorized most of those segments I imagine. Now for my part - I've been asked by my principal to do one or two projects so I haven't gotten a lot done on the encoding. I plan on having at least thirty minutes done by the end of this weekend and will post it as a sample. Please feel free to sign up for a slot at http://tinyurl.com/1114trans |
Re: A CD Project: Transcribe 1114 Strategy Video
I posted this on the other thread... but it has a place here as well.
----- Something I think you need to take into account, after seeing that you hosted that clip on your own YouTube Channel: You should DEFINITELY ASK 1114 if it's okay to re-host their entire presentation. After all, it's their media, their presentation, and they reserve the right to control all the outlets it's posted on. Sending them the transcript/subtitled version is one thing, rehosting something they worked crazy hard on, therefore drawing the attention away from their channel is another. |

Hi, I'm Adam Cadot, the guy behind Simbotics' website, app and videos.
It's great to see the effort here behind the transcription of the video as it is sad we didn't have sufficient audio equipment available at the time of the recording. Thanks for the helping us expand the reach of our resources! Although rather than reupload the video, I think it may be the best idea to just upload captions for the video using YouTube's caption feature http://support.google.com/youtube/bi...age=g uide.cs Here's an example of a video with close captioning and if we use their system then we get the added bonus of the animated caption history window they have available. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64XzW4_TPRM Thoughts? |
