Songs

So with the 2013 season coming, what songs will be on the playlist while working on the robot?

Re: Songs

Last year, our team alternated between a dub-step playlist (the kids' favorite) and a smooth jazz playlist (the teachers' favorite). I don't see that changing much.

Re: Songs

For us, it was a combination of classic rock, and electronic (TyDi, Avicii, Tiesto, deadmau5, etc.) Although music can sometimes be a distraction, and there are times when I personally prefer it not be played.

I'm a smooth jazz fan. I wonder what would happen if I tried to play some...

Probably a lot of Gangnam Style! :ahh:

We're sharing a site with two other teams that could total 150 people in one build area. It's not very likely there will be ANY music playing at all. If I do listen to music it will be with my own headphones with a heavy does of Pendulum, Freestylers, Knife Party, Deadmous5, She, Paramore, Garbage and Foo Fighters.

Re: Songs

To edit what my team mate Emmett had said, on the weekends we had smooth jazz saturday and saturday, but we also allowed people to have their playlists added and played. Music is something that makes pop riveting go a little bit faster :)

Re: Songs

For us its mostly Coldplay, Muse, and/or Hans Zimmer at meetings.

Re: Songs

Well I want to listen to the radio usually, which 99.9% of the time would be "The Only New Rock Alternative, 89X!" From Detroit/Windsor. And I would say listen to "Dave and Chuck the Freak"... but... well they quit :'( Every Detroit area teams will now what I'm talking about.

Last year we usually listened to Skrillex, or Klaypex (which we put in a few of our season videos) a fare bit, or some other Dubstep, but when the mentor's are in the room we would commonly switch it to some kind of Rock.

Re: Songs

We've always had a computer with Pandora or Youtube running, and students will change playlists/stations occasionally. This probably will not change.

Someone should create a playlist!

Re: Songs

Usually we listen to a classic rock station on the radio when we do listen to music with some occasional dub step mixed in

dictionaria13 03-12-2012 23:11

Re: Songs

Our team's programmers usually have iTunes running on their laptops, so we get a lot of dubstep, with a little bit of metal and rap mixed in. Don't see that changing this year.

Re: Songs

Every Queen album.Ever.

We also include R&B and Rap for those members of our team who enjoy that, and some pop for others.

But yeah, much Queen will be played.

And "Let's get down to Business" (Mulan soundtrack) That is a great track for inspiring your team members to build robots.

I had an embarrassing moment last year in which the entire team was singing along to this song and I was at a loss due to a deprived childhood without Disney movies :P

Re: Songs

Avicii Levels was a personal Programming Corner favorite; along with a healthy dose of Nyan cat.

My friend and I, built our OCCRA bot to "As long as you love me" by Justin Bieber and now I know why it sucked...

You should look into a genre called "electro-swing". It's literally a mashhup of jazz/swing and techno/dub-step type music.

Seconded. Not exactly my cup of tea, but it's interesting (and a good blend of the two) nonetheless.

I feel those feels. My morning drive just isn't the same... I hope that when they come back they're still in my listening area... =(

Also, this explains this well.

Re: Songs

My team always plays Taylor Swift, because half the team loves her, and half the team hates her so much its funny!:) I suspect Gangnam Style will be popular as well. Rumor has it that Will.i.am might be releasing an album in February, which could be popular in the FIRST community. While I don't care much for most of his music, I really enjoyed "This is Love" so I may check it out.

For me personally, my man Sho Baraka is releasing his new album "The Talented 10th" five days before kickoff, so I'll definitely be listening to that.

Re: Songs

Well last year, we tried some music (Daft Punk, Skrillex, Deadmau5 and whatever people wanted to play) but it didn't help, so we kinda banned music. Though near the end of build we could be found working till midnight with the aid of Led Zeppelin.

Personally, if I'm working alone, whether it be welding, soldering, or coding, JusTice or other instrumental house helps me.

Re: Songs

I can't detail much of the other groups of my team, but I know in Manufacturing at least we are kept to a pretty much classic rock only genre

My team seems to be really into Mulan too. Specifically "Make a Man out of You." Our playlist had Jai Ho from Slumdog Millionaire, Still Alive, Want you Gone, some classic rock, some dubstep and some hiphop.

Re: Songs

Classic rock, techno, and 80's jams. Each have their place and time in the build season. Accept no substitutes.

Please no... I've heard too much of that already!!!
I'm a personal fan of Metallica, Disturbed, Tool, Rage Against the Machine, KoRn, Skrillex, and Godsmack. I hope they get played in the electrical area this year.

Re: Songs

Our team stays with just about every AC/DC song ever. Due to the overwhelming approval and head mentors enjoyment of.

Re: Songs

Too much of a conflict for are team. Classic Rock fans fight the hipsters on what to put on the stereo. Though my competition cool down play list will change from Rush and Dream Theater to Neutral Milk Hotel

Re: Songs

80s rock. No one shares my taste for electronic music around here.
