Yes this is normal. When they are under load, they will not make that noise. We have driven robots around with these wheels on and they are not noisy at all.

Let us know after you get them integrated on a robot how they sound / perform.

Depending upon how much of the groove was being covered, this is normal. The groove is larger than the clip to allow for tolerance stack up. If the clip can't be assembled, then that is a different story all together. Did they try to install the e-clip?

I'll do just that. (I wasn't terribly concerned, mind. I just figured I'd ask while I was on CD and so were you...

Just a short comment that 1676 is very pleased with the 2 stage ball shifters we received last week. They assemble quickly, shift like a dream, and our break in process did not reveal much metal dust in the grease.

Can't wait to get 150 hours on them!

We decided to hold off on installing until we got some official advice. Thanks for being so active on the thread!

Do y'all have any idea when the 1/2" hex bearings will be back in stock? They're an important part of making all of the rest of your stuff work right. :)

We took them out of stock to 100% inspect the runout based on the earlier CD post. They will be back in stock no later than Tuesday.

For what it's worth, we also experienced significant (visible) wobbling on 2 of the 4 1/2 inch hex bearings we ordered. I don't have a video of it, but I just wanted to bring it to your attention that it's probably not just an isolated case.

Re: VEX Robotics Relaunches VEXpro Product Line with over 120 New & Improved Products

FWIW, of the 80 I just got, 20+ are so far exactly what we expected. There's a little variation on how well they fit on VEXPro .5" hex stock, but none of the 20 were out of center.

Any idea on when the Hex bore versa-hubs will re-stock?

Ed,

We are currently inspecting them. We will be putting some back in inventory late today, but a limited quantity. Basically, the supplier broached the hex such that some parts are seeing a .006" to .010" runout to the flat face and to the versakey pilot. We are putting the good parts in inventory and reworking the parts out of specification.

If you are in a pinch now and have access to a hex broach, you can broach the 1/2" round with keyway to a 1/2" hex.

The 1/2" hex bore VersaHubs are now back In Stock in limited quantities.

The website will be adjusted as necessary based on inventory.

Re: VEX Robotics Relaunches VEXpro Product Line with over 120 New & Improved Products

We are finding that nearly all of our hex bearings are off center. I think this is becoming a major issue among teams not knowing when good parts are going to be available.

Paul Copioli 24-01-2013 22:44

Re: VEX Robotics Relaunches VEXpro Product Line with over 120 New & Improved Products

It is always a good idea to contact customer service at support@vexrobotics.com or 903-453-0802.

While John, Ricky and I check CD, our customer service department responds to customers who call and email. Every customer who contacts our support line directly is having their bad bearings replaced.

The issue that went undetected was that the hex was broached off center. Our standard bearing race runout test did not detect this failure mode. We have now set up a special hex runout test on every hex bearing.

The reason the bearings are out of stock is so we can replace all the bad bearings that have already been received by customers.

For extra information, only the 1/2" hex bearing is affected. The 3/8" hex bearing is not affected by the defect.

Re: VEX Robotics Relaunches VEXpro Product Line with over 120 New & Improved Products

We just got our robot driving today and encountered an interesting noise. After some basic testing we believe to have narrowed the noise down to our brand new victor 888s. When they are given a a signal other than stop they emit a buzzing noise. They appear to work correctly, driving our cims under a fair amount of load for about 5 minutes or so.

We were just wondering if this noise is intentional or not. What can we do about it, and is there a way to stop it?

-Thanks

The Victor 888 operates at 1,000 Hz which is in the audible range for us humans. The noise is normal and expected.

This may want to be noted somewhere official. We certainly found the noise a tad bit concerning when we first heard it.

There probably isn't anything we can do about the volume of it then?

Any plans on stocking an 11 tooth CIM gear, like West Coast Products?

It offers the nice ability to tweak the gear ratios in the gearboxes, without a massive change, and it's a product I'd really like to see.

I don't know that I have ever seen the WCP 11 tooth gear in stock. Besides, I doubt VEXpro can compete with WCP's price of $0.00.

On a more serious note, I second this motion. It offers a lot amount of design flexibility.

Usually you must contact RC directly. The site is sometimes incorrect and he offers other parts(i.e we got 254-esque WCD bearing blocks that are/were never listed on the website)

Just out of curiosity..... Does the part not being listed on the website, and only being available by direct contact, disqualify it as COTS?

I know we will most likely be having some custom wheels made by RC. So, how would those be handled on the BOM?

If you're paying for them you'd have to list the fair market value of the materials and labor that went into making them.

They were metal last year as well.

The VersaHubs for mounting a gear/sprocket to a wheel were plastic, but all the live axle hubs are metal.

There is something hidden in Aren's picture too. It's killing me that no one has noticed it yet.

For a real question, I was wondering if the bearing issues from 2013 were ever resolved - I didn't get to follow the news on those last season. If so, is there an even larger inventory of hex bearings for 2014?
