School vs Education
 

I saw this video posted on Someone's Facebook. It really expresses how you should know why your going to school, and what you want to be educated about, and what you want to be educated in this subject for. Somethings to keep in mind for all my fellow Seniors that will be going off to University or College next year.

Good Luck to all of you in perusing your dreams, and do everything for the right reason, not because you heard it was the best.

I don't like his introduction. Outliers are not statistics. Exceptional people will do exceptional things. The average person benefits from "traditional" school. That's a statistic.

I do really like the message though. I picked a college for all the wrong reasons, and luckily managed to get out of it exactly what I wanted/needed. What you really should be picking when you choose a school is your classmates.

A very important mentor of mine didn't go to college & got out of high school as fast and took the first job he could get cleaning barrels in a cabinet shop. He was really all about old airplanes though, and spent 10 years flying the oldest one in the USA, so I think he did a pretty good job achieving his dreams. I don't think anyone could ever accuse him of having stopped learning.

I was just discussing this with students yesterday. Pick a college with the program that suits your needs, not the school with the biggest name where you'll be a cog in an education machine.

BTW, Ian, you are from Puget Sound? How is the University of PS? I got a letter from them saying they have a joint double major program for Physics and Engineering. Wonder if you know if it is good or not.
