1114 Transcription Sample Video
Ok -
So I've made a five minute sample of a section transcribed from 1114's Strategy Video. Please take a look and comment on the size and positioning of the captions. This is my first time doing this so it may take some tweaking. http://youtu.be/hgSH_4NCFFU Thanks. |
Re: 1114 Transcription Sample Video
Would it to possible to speed up the transition between lines? In may cases in the first 2 minutes of the posted video Karthik has already said the next whole line before it appears on screen. I think it would be best to have the lines on the screen before they are said in general, rather than said then get the listing.

Re: 1114 Transcription Sample Video
Have you considered using YouTube's tool? It might actually end up being less work than having to copy & paste tons of lines into your video editor.
It could even be added to the original YouTube upload, minimizing confusion and allowing it to be toggled on or off. http://support.google.com/youtube/bi...&guide=2734661 |

Again, thank you. |
Re: 1114 Transcription Sample Video
Yeah -
I realized when I was watching that some lines were a bit off. I didn't want to use YouTube's editor because it is very difficult to move through. For example - in the program I am using I can jump from caption to caption within the video itself as well as slight forwards and backwards movements. I will work on aligning the values a bit more. I will also move everything up a bit so the Youtube bottom bar doesn't cut it off. Still looking for a few transcribers. Feel free to signup at http://tinyurl.com/1114trans |

Re: 1114 Transcription Sample Video
Something I think you need to take into account, after seeing that you hosted that clip on your own YouTube Channel:
You should DEFINITELY ASK 1114 if it's okay to re-host their entire presentation. After all, it's their media, their presentation, and they reserve the right to control all the outlets it's posted on. Sending them the transcript/subtitled version is one thing, rehosting something they worked crazy hard on, therefore drawing the attention away from their channel is another. |

Either way, perhaps 1114 can post the final captioned version on their YouTube (just Dropbox it or something) that way they can keep the attention and view count on their channel. |
Re: 1114 Transcription Sample Video
I think it's perfectly fine to transcribe this and that you've done a fantastic job. Thank you for taking so much time out of your day to make this information accessible to others. Nowhere has it been said that the entire thing would be uploaded to another person's youtube channel, and someone in another thread has already asked 1114 if they had the original file and upon hearing no response we started transcribing. I'm sure most people would be totally fine with this being uploaded onto 1114's channel if that's what the team wants. Just as I'm sure 1114 would allow this to be uploaded to the website that hosts past presentations from the conferences, after all this was a presentation at Championships.
Before we start accusing people of stealing other's intellectual property and getting all upset let's keep in our minds the big picture of helping everyone be able to understand it's message. It's much like how international teams transcribe and translate the game video every year. It's not that they are trying to steal views away from FIRST, they are just trying to make the information available to those who may have problems hearing and understanding the original message. |
Re: 1114 Transcription Sample Video
Yeah,
My plan was just to release the samples to tweak. The final video and transcription file will go to 1114. |

Good to know that's considered rude, though. I forgot Chief was like this now. Thank you to all of you who are working hard; sorry if I sounded like I was criticizing. I think it's a really great idea. |

Yeah, that's why I figure that staying in the habit of using pre-cleared media is a good idea. Besides, you can get some amazing stock stuff for cheap...especially if you find the sites that sell CDs of materials on sale.

Re: 1114 Transcription Sample Video
Hey everyone,
In order to aid me in getting everything right, I've decided to use Youtube Captionings and have the full video hosted on my (not my team's) account. It is set as hidden so you must have the link to get to it. I have an email out to 1114 and will remove the video once everything is transcribed or if they respond back, but for now I'd like to get this done as soon as I can. . . especially before build season. I am working from the beginning so it will update over time. Let me know how it is looking and how it helps your viewing experience: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJ7Y4Y2e5Mg |

http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...5&postcount=24 Please do not re-upload the video; we like the idea of using the built in captioning feature provided by Youtube. If your group can provide the transcription in the appropriate format, our media team can add to the existing video. This will also allow us the opportunity to have the captions translated into French and Spanish by our partner organizations (Robotique FIRST Quebec and Team 2283). Thanks to everyone who has worked to transcribe this video, hopefully the additions of captions will make the video accessible to more people and teams. Edit: It would probably help to keep all the discussion in one thread... |
Re: 1114 Transcription Sample Video
Karthik,
Thanks for the response. Ok - I am working on getting the Closed Captioning file completed and will send it to the appropriate person to upload to your video once it is done. |
Re: 1114 Transcription Sample Video
I'm still keenly interested in this. Any good news? |
Re: 1114 Transcription Sample Video
I have gotten the first 48 minutes finished though not up on YouTube yet. That covers the strategy section.
