Mentors, Mentorship, and more

The MIT Mentorship Initiative and Kell Robotics has just posted 15 new videos for your enrichment, here

Several well known persons inside the FIRST community talk about growing up, their mentors, the students they work with and more. Such as going in the swamps, building race cars, and even a little bit about some of the thought processes that the Game Design Committee uses when designing robotics challenges. There is some history about the early years of FIRST, and more.

Initially the footage was shot with the intent of producing something, but a decision was made to to present the interviews nearly uncut. The good news is there is nearly no editorial filtering of comments. But that leaves you with over 3 hours of interviews.

Enjoy the interviews. There are a lot of interesting stories. They are not TED talks. ( maybe they are 'ED' talks )....

All this footage was shot in April 2010. Apologies to all for not getting it out sooner.

I haven't gotten a chance to watch them yet, but was a great selection of people. Thank you for putting this together.

EDIT: just finished watching the whole series. Excellent job, everyone that participated in putting these together Thank You. I've had the opportunity to know several of these people from my time in FRC and I hope to be able to meet more of them. They are all very inspiring stories and we need more things like this in our community.

Thanks for the compliments. Please spread the word and help get the word out and use these to help recruit mentors to FIRST and other STEM programs.

Some trivia: There were 18 people on the staff behind the camera that were needed to shoot and produce these videos. From concept to the release of 'Satisfaction' it was about 1 year of calendar time.

We have a couple of more to release as soon as we can figure it out.

But the next release will a short recruitment video with some amazing comments. We hope to have in out within a month.

Spread the word.

There is an impressive amount of Wisdom in these. Thanks to everyone that put them together and the mentors who sat down to share their thoughts!

The MIT Mentorship Initiative has a new website here

Less cluttered and easier to use than the previous site.

Enjoy.

Thanks for the compliments.

Sometimes the obvious isn't obvious until you get kicked in the head so to speak.

As soon as we can get ourselves above water we want to publish them as podcasts. It would be great stuff to listen to while driving or commuting to work.

It was easy to miss. It was posted right about kickoff and that is a lousy time to announce anything on Chiefdelphi because of all the turmoil and the new thread rate on CD.

We just updated the website and added 'Satisfaction'. Somehow it got dropped when we created the new site.
