Robot in 3 Days - Live Streaming and Updates Now
Hey everyone, Robot in 3 Days is now well underway. By Tuesday at noon we'll have completed a robot capable of playing "Ultimate Ascent".
Our initial reaction and strategy session is now up for viewing. Keep checking our YouTube channel, every few hours we'll be uploading a progress video showing what works, what doesn't, and everything in between to help you in your planning. Also: Our live stream is now up at http://www.robotin3days.com/livestream/. We're using a webcam that's unfortunately a bit blurry, but you can tune in and see all the action as we soldier on over the remaining 68 hours... 67 hours and 59 minutes... 67 hours and 58 minutes..... |

Re: Robot in 3 Days - Live Streaming and Updates Now
Our first Frisbee Shooter Video of the Day has been posted here.
We are working on our next revision which is a linear two wheel shooter and having some great results. We will be posting a video for that shooter shortly. |
Re: Robot in 3 Days - Live Streaming and Updates Now
How do they get the parts? are they part of a real first team or does first sponser them?

This isn't a full team, our goal is more to be a resource for teams as they are going through their design process to gleam ideas from and build upon and to help show that even small teams with basic machining are able to achieve the goals of the game with planning. If you go to our YouTube Channel, we are providing updates every few hours explaining the lessons learned in the design, testing, and build phases for teams to consider. |
Re: Robot in 3 Days - Live Streaming and Updates Now
Is that shooter veering to the right? Or is it relatively straight?

Re: Robot in 3 Days - Live Streaming and Updates Now
Two new videos have been posted this evening testing out different types of frisbee shooter designs.

Re: Robot in 3 Days - Live Streaming and Updates Now
I'm absolutely in love with what you guys are doing. It really is an incredible thing, not just building the robot in three days (i can't even imagine...) but your entire mission.
I can absolutely say I'm cheering you on to build this robot. Again...absolutely awesome. |
Re: Robot in 3 Days - Live Streaming and Updates Now
I went to the live stream page here: http://www.robotin3days.com/livestream/ and right now it's just showing your 2nd prototype video. When's the live stream going to resume?
P.S. This has been so helpful for our team in considering strategy. |

------- We have one more video for this evening to talk about our plan of action for the next few days. We will be wrapping up for the night in the next hour or two but the live stream will resume in the morning with several more videos planned as we continue the shooter build for both launching and loading systems and of course we will eventually begin work on the climbing systems. But, for now: Here's where we are headed. Goodnight, everyone! |

I'm officially a fangirl of iR3 and Team 1902 (especially their mentors)
If I ever see you, I'm taking a picture with you and getting your autograph. You have been warned. |
Re: Robot in 3 Days - Live Streaming and Updates Now
Can you give us a more detailed idea of consistency and distance of the second shooter? Also what was the difference between the RPM of the two wheels? You guys are making prototyping so much easier! We appreciate what you are doing!

All of the people working on the project have worked with the team before, (Dan, Robby, and Andrew are all 1902 mentors) and while the team is helping as much as we can, we are still building our 2013 competition robot separately. As much as I wish Bacon could take credit for this amazing idea, in reality it's the involvement and influence of great people like the iR3 crew that helped make Bacon into the team it is today. Keep up the great work guys! Everything seems to be coming together nicely :D |

Hopefully our prototypes produce similar results so we don't have to deal with orientation. - Sunny G. |
Re: Robot in 3 Days - Live Streaming and Updates Now
No appreciable difference in orientation...that's interesting. Can you clarify what exactly was taking chunks out of the frisbee? Was it hitting the c-channel or was it the wheels itself actually?

Re: Robot in 3 Days - Live Streaming and Updates Now
I've been following the stream and youtube and what you guys are doing is fantastic. I really hope everyone, especially rookies, can see this. It's a very simple but effective design that would probably do well at most events. Keep up the good work!
|
Re: Robot in 3 Days - Live Streaming and Updates Now
You guys are doing a great service to the FRC community, especially rookie and teams with few mentors. All three of my young teams will be learning from you guys this week, thanks for sharing! BTW - you guys are crazy trying this, but it shows what can be done with planning, support, and a careless approach to the need for sleep! I just gotta give you guys a very loud "Oink, Oink.... Boom!" For what you are doing! Best of luck!

Re: Robot in 3 Days - Live Streaming and Updates Now
Thank you, everyone, for all your support the past few days. The fun chat conversations and phone calls have turned this into a really great experience so far.

--------------------- We started to get a lot of similar questions so I went ahead and wrote a post to give a bit of a snapshot of where we are at now. We posted a few more videos today on our YouTube channel and a lot of the questions we have been receiving are discussed in better detail on there or will be talked about in videos coming up tomorrow. Our live stream should be back up when we start work again around 8:30/9am. ![]() |

Re: Robot in 3 Days - Live Streaming and Updates Now
Hey guys, we're well under way with 20 hours left in our 3 day build timeframe. We're wrapping up our indexer/shooter/chassis integration and moving on to the climbing mechanism.
We just uploaded a new video on our YouTube channel showing the shooter and indexer being integrated and how we are making design decisions to get everything operational. Tune in at 6pm Eastern Time tonight to our live stream for a Live Chat with the team! |
Re: Robot in 3 Days - Live Streaming and Updates Now
How do we join the chat? I can see the livestream, but no chat window... Ive tried Chrome & IE...

Re: Robot in 3 Days - Live Streaming and Updates Now
Thanks a ton for the videos of your shooters, they really helped us answer questions we were having about the functionality of our shooter design idea (although we definitely still need to get started on our prototype)
|
Re: Robot in 3 Days - Live Streaming and Updates Now
With all due respect, is it possible to make a running FRC robot in 3 days? Including a climbing mechanism, frisbee shooter and pickup system. I ain't tryin t slam you guys, and the progress you're making is impressive. But dang, y'all got one heck of a workload.
|
Re: Robot in 3 Days - Live Streaming and Updates Now
Wow I love what you've done! Especially demonstrating how the frisbees shoot upside down with your shooter design. ::rtm::

Re: Robot in 3 Days - Live Streaming and Updates Now
That robot looks awesome. Great job!
|
Re: Robot in 3 Days - Live Streaming and Updates Now
They are done!
|
Re: Robot in 3 Days - Live Streaming and Updates Now
iR3 sets out to build an FRC robot that is probably rather competitive in 72 hours, and gets it done in 60.
Wow. Just wow. Mad props guys. -Nick |
Re: Robot in 3 Days - Live Streaming and Updates Now
Did they put in bumper mounts? On the other hand, I guess legality isn't the number 1 priority, just getting the thing built. Will this (probably highly competitive) machine be competing at any scrimages? I'd love to actually see it in action against other robots. Let's see what wonders 6 weeks of driver practice can work!
Any way guys, amazing job. I bet this will be forever regarded as the bot rookies should have built. |
Re: Robot in 3 Days - Live Streaming and Updates Now
I wonder how many of these robots are gonna be at competitions? lol
|
Re: Robot in 3 Days - Live Streaming and Updates Now
I've been checking in on this every evening and I'm really impressed by how quickly the robot came together. I think the videos have also highlighted how the iR3 products would be great for many FRC teams that need the ability to quickly make changes to their robot on the fly.

How soon can play against it in Off Season competition? Got any ideas lined up yet?
(You guys are allowed to add a crio so you can connect to the field) |
Re: Robot in 3 Days - Live Streaming and Updates Now
Hey guys, if you've been following our Twitter feed you already know this: But we finished the bot at 12:30 this morning! Still can't believe we ended up getting it done with half a day to spare.
We brought it to our testing facility this morning to get some good video to unveil the final build. Andrew's piecing together all the video we shot and we will have it posted soon. In the next day or two we'll also put up a debriefing for the lessons learned and other things we encountered. A lot of those areas we got to talk about in the live chat, so if you have some time you should check it out. Thank you again for all the support, there has just been such a massive amount of encouragement coming from you these past few days and it has been great to get to talk with so many of you that we haven't had the chance to work with before. It's super exciting to hear the ideas several teams have told us about in how they are improving on our designs for their competition bot and we hope that this has been something that is helpful and, more importantly, inspirational for your team. Can't wait to see all of your robots this year and best of luck to you as you go through build season! |
Re: Robot in 3 Days - Live Streaming and Updates Now
Great job Robot in 2.5 days team. It was fun to watch.
How fast is it geared to go? Shifters? Also, when will the robot reveal video be up? |
