I wanted to make a thread in which we could share our high scores in Catalyst 2013 in 1v0 matches. Mine's 87, currently. I'm sure I will get topped immediately, what are you guys at?

My first real attempt got 70 using Cannon and hang for 30. Working on practicing and getting more.

Yeah, I'm trying to perfect my strategy. I'm using Cannon too, the only other one that looks like it'd be better is the Walking Tall, but I can't figure out how to lower the elevator. Also, my proof:

Haha, nice! I tried using Walking Tall but also can't figure out how to lower the lift. I have tried every button. Anyway, more runs on Catalyst tonight...great program! Very enlightening as to how the game will run, too.

It's still in beta, so I'm sure they'll fix it for the final release. Very true about how the game will run. I laughed so hard when it started raining frisbees with :30 left.

Someone said the same thing on Diamond Bullet Studios's forums, and they said that it would be fixed in the first update.

Hit "Alt" (Left or Right depending on which keyboard you chose) to Select and move on.

And the raining frisbees were quite hilarious...

I just can't stand arcade drive. I wish there was a tank drive option. Oh well. My high scores only 50.

The walking tail is amazing i scored 60 in one match

It is lowered on the xbox controller using the right analog stick

In the pause menu you can access the controls

No hanging used. I used the dumper robot. I finally broke 100 :)

Strategy for walking tall:
First score 4 in auto top.
Then Score all 6 color frisbees.
Finally keep scoring the white discs on top level.

In this version of the game, to climb a side of the pyramid, the robot needs to be backed up to the bar and almost perfectly centered. In our first update to the game, we will be making it where you don't have to line up perfectly to climb.

The Walking tall robot seems to be pretty good
but there is no way a robot like that could be legal, right?
The high goal is around 104 inches high and if your robot is limited to 84 inches you cannot dump frisbees into it like in the simulator?
Am I missing something?

I think if you didn't find it useful last year then you probably won't find it useful this year.

Our team on the other hand proved through playing Catalyst 2012 that a middle basket scorer could compete with above average top basket scorers, which, as you saw on the field, proved correct.

Having said that, I believe this year's version is less useful, but your mileage may vary.

After staying up and playing Catalyst until 2am with just my keyboard on my laptop, I posted a score of 84. However, I've already asked to barrow an Attack 3 joystick for tonight.

How do you lower the shooter on Walking Tall after you raise it? Both are supposedly bound to Left Ctrl but pressing it again does nothing.

This had to be my 30th or 40th attempt. I average just over 100.

As for Walk Tall's keyboard controls, I don't know them. I still use the same wired Xbox controller I used to play 5th Gear 2010 when it first came out, lol.

Strategy is pretty simple: 4 discs in auto, usually one run of discs in teleop before going for the colored discs. If you do it efficiently enough that you're out of discs just before the 30 second mark (if you're going for high score, you should), then you go get the last two red disks. The last 30 seconds is really where high speed scoring is at.

:) try to beat this 6 discs in auto., 4 discs in 5pts, and the rest just white in 3pts.
(if you run to feeder station for 2 red, you get more pts. by getting 4 white.)

...and do the bonus still count in the real game if the HP knock your red/blue frisbees out?

played again today, and got even higher :)

(only 4 bonus disks, I found out 4 bonus disks and 4 regular disks > 6 bonus discs)

Started in Blue 2, shot 4 in auto. Then ran shooting cycles from the discs in the center of the field. Shot from inside the pyramid lined up with the blue line at the back of the structure. As for end game, you should be running your last shooting cycle by about 40-35 seconds to go, but shoot them with the back of the robot halfway through the shadow of the pyramid, then just keep grabbing two from the human player thrown discs and shooting them from there. All discs go into the high goal.

So is it just me, or is that walking tall bot totally illegal? They should also put the perspective at eye level with the driver stations rather than well above the driver's station.

Walking Tall is completely illegal. DBS said they would fix the height so that it was legal in an update coming this Sunday.

I haven't been able to get Walking Tall to consistently go in after the update. Any tips?

Instead I've been trying to use the upgraded Cannon hanger design to get up there, and I'm at like the 105 level with that. I bet with enough skill I could do it, the problem is once you run out of field discs there are massive diminishing returns on going to the human player for points and you just can't get above that threshold 2 discs at a time. Walk Tall has the red discs as an option and holds 4 so that's why it can get better scores... Now I just gotta make the new design go in the goal every time.

I'll have time to attack your high score this weekend, robotics is eating all of my time that school didn't already consume.

start at red 2, get the one frisbee from under the tower so you have 4, score turn around get the 2 (6 in auto.) then clear the middle, 4 red, 1 run of 4 white frisbees, and quick score in the last 20 seconds.

(you have to line up perfectly, take your time)

That's the general strategy I'm using, the problem is for some reason when I'm up against the wall about half of my frisbees don't make it into the goal. I can't tell what I'm doing wrong. I'll take video next time I do it.

I found out the problem. I play with an Xbox controller, and for Walk Tall, the spit speed seems to be determined by how hard you hit the A button.

Since I didn't like smacking my thumb every time i wanted to score, I switched to the cannon. My high score with that is 120, which is within 8 points of the mighty Original Walk Tall.

If you run into the tower (the side closest to "you" and so it is pointing straight at where you are trying to score), you will score 3 pointers. With this, I am able to clear out the entire middle field frisbees, get 24 pts in auton, and climb for a 30, getting on average 114 pts total. Not as good as the walking tall but thats all I can get with the cannon...

With the hanger, just drive into the tower from the far side. Without a hanger, either have your back bumper even with the colored line, or have the back half of your robot in the shadow of the tower for a closer shot.

Red / Blue 1 can turn slightly and make shots in auto.

Have you tried it? Yes, you can. That is why most of my high scores are at the end screen not the final score screen. But, if it is legit Great Job!

My highest score is 98 with the cannon bot design and climbed to the top level on the pyramid... but i find it hard to see that happening at competition with one bot putting up that kind of numbers.

I think I've hit 120 a few times with Cannon No Climber after the update, but I know Gregor has hit a higher score than that.

I think my max is like 59 or something with Ri3D.

You kinda have to jam it into the center of the pyramid, but not too hard, to get 3 point shots working right. Takes a few minutes to figure out.

This was a 48 point auto, all white disks off the floor, 2 trips to the feeder station, 1 red disk, 5 blue disks, and 1 blue disk in the pyramid goal. The score should have been 135, the HP got me 2 points.

Start in blue 1. Turn a little bit, score your 2 preloads. Grab the 2 middle disks and shoot under the shadow. Grab the 2 front disks, *shoot 1 under the shadow and one at the blue line without stopping*, then go straight back to the centre, grab the 2 disks, and shoot them from the blue line. With this method I can score 8 disks and grab 2 more disks in auto.

I'll try and record a video later, but I'm running it on a Macbook and don't have the software installed. Anyone have some decent screen recording programs they can reccomend?


*It is important in this step to not stop, shoot as you move back.

QuickTime can do screen capture too now. Not the best frame rate every time but it will work.

You can also do an 8 disc auto from Blue 2 and going backwards, but it's a bit slower. I find it easier with an Xbox controller for some reason.

I've not been able to score reliably in the 3 pt. goal with walking tail post update. The disks sometimes just barely fall in, but most of the tome they wont reach the goal.

Pardon the thread bump, but some of us just finished finals and now are back to their Catalyst habit.

I have no idea how you can score more than 129 points. That's every disc on the floor, with a seven disc auto, and all six colored discs in the tower. Even one cycle from the human player would raise that total to 141.

7 disc auto, grab 4 at the center, then do three cycles from the feeder station, pick up all the centers except for the three shown, and in the last 30 seconds, hope that your human player throws the coloreds in a convenient spot.
