Ultimate Ascent Rules quiz
FRC team 23 is happy to present a rules quiz that you can use for testing your students. FRC 23 requires a 70% or better score from all students to participate in design.
Results can be emailed directly to the student and an optional second email (instructor/mentor email) If you have issues with the questions, or ideas for new ones, send me an email or a PM. (email preferred) http://www.engunneer.com/quiz |
Re: Ultimate Ascent Rules quiz
I got 80%.
It will be interesting seeing how the rest of my team does on this. haha Thanks for making this and getting it out there, especially on the first day! :) |
Re: Ultimate Ascent Rules quiz
70%. Just passed. Pretty good for 11:14 PM. (See what I did there? 1114? Heh...)
|
Re: Ultimate Ascent Rules quiz
I got an 80% as well, and ashamed of it. Better study up on my rules more. But for day 1, I guess that's not too bad.
|
Re: Ultimate Ascent Rules quiz
85%
Not too bad... I wonder how much of it will change during the season due to updates (like the direct hang question, that one is debatable pending Q/A clarification) |
Re: Ultimate Ascent Rules quiz
I got a 90%. Missed BUMPER ZONE, and starting height. Pretty good.
|
Re: Ultimate Ascent Rules quiz
80%; made a couple stupid mistakes(like only counting white disks in the last question).

Re: Ultimate Ascent Rules quiz
As per Glossary Term from Section 6.11
Quote:
Quote:
in conjunction with the text from Section 2.2.52 that states that there is a RUNG1 located at 90", Quote:
in conjunction with the text found in Section 2.2.3 The GOALS3 Quote:
implies that the PYRAMID GOAL1, which is only 2 3/4 in. deep, which sits directly on top of the PYRAMID1, begins at a height higher than 90" (by the diagram above), implying that the PYRAMID1 itself, in fact extends higher than the top RUNG1. It appears that the height of the PYRAMID is not 90", but something in fact taller. Unfortunately, there appears that there are several different direct (factual) interpretations of what this might be. According to the drawing GE-130174, the PYRAMID includes the PYRAMID cap, which according to drawing GE-130184 includes the Center tube part GE-13018-03, which appears to be the tallest part of the PYRAMID assembly. Let's call the total height of the PYRAMID in this case (which would includes the PYRAMID base, which is technically below the covering carpet, so would measure slightly shorter on a field measuring from the carpet, even though the actual PYRAMID itself would be the thickness of carpet PLUS the thickness of the base thicker) X (which is a value larger than 90", but smaller than 120"). Looking at drawing GE-130434 in conjunction with it's subassemblies, we can ascertain that the 2 3/4" PYRAMID GOAL1 outlined in the earlier text found in Section 2.2.3 The GOALS3 is defined by the plastic side subassemblies found in GE-130414 and bottoms found in GE-130424 and GE-130844. The discrepancy comes in the following form: According to the text found in Section 2.2.3 The GOALS3 Quote:
In either of these cases, a portion Section 2.26 is being violated. However, in all three (flawed) interpretations, the height of the PYRAMID is higher than 90". Perhaps a better way to phrase the question is "At what height is the top RUNG found?" |
Re: Ultimate Ascent Rules quiz
I intended that answer to be 120". I will double check. ( I thought I fixed that one already)

I really don't think I'd want to build a robot with such a starting height though... |
Re: Ultimate Ascent Rules quiz
I got 95% :D
But the question I missed was At the start of a match, a robot's maximum height is: 3 feet 84 inches 54 inches 5 feet 6 feet I picked 5 feet but the quiz says its 84 inches, is that right? |
Re: Ultimate Ascent Rules quiz
At the start of the match you are in your Auto Zone, so you can be up to 84" tall.
|
Re: Ultimate Ascent Rules quiz
There are 6 goals not 5, ONE 3 point, TWO 2 point, TWO 1 point, ONE 5 point.
1+2+2+1=6 |

Re: Ultimate Ascent Rules quiz
Excellent work. Thanks for sharing this. With your permission, we will certainly use this before tomorrow's discussions.
95% (missed the one about when students may remove robot) |
Re: Ultimate Ascent Rules quiz
90%, I still have some work to do. It turns out that email blasts aren't official interpretations of rules, and that I can't add to 130.
|
Re: Ultimate Ascent Rules quiz
Total Correct: 10
Total Possible: 20 Score: 50% You have failed this test. :'( I forgot about the colored discs! It's a good test though |

Re: Ultimate Ascent Rules quiz
I got 90% so not bad for me. Missed the ones about starting height and surprisingly rule clarifications. My interpretation of that question was that the "manual" was the first printing and of course not very clear, so I only put Q&A.

Re: Ultimate Ascent Rules quiz
I wish the ref test was this easy ...
I question this question: Quote:
|
Re: Ultimate Ascent Rules quiz
Total Correct: 17
Total Possible: 20 Score: 85% You have passed this test. Close enough |
Re: Ultimate Ascent Rules quiz
Gary,
Thanks! I will alter the question. |
Re: Ultimate Ascent Rules quiz
Statistics:
In the first 20-ish hours this has been posted, the test has been completed 418 times. The fastest passing grade so far is M. Farr from FRC 1425 at 1m43s (95%) The fastest perfect score so far is A. Childers from FRC 3079 at 1m54s The best-quizzed team is FRC 4063 with 17 people completing the quiz (it appears they did it all at the same time too) Some of the fake names are amusing, but please still put a real team number if you are using a fake name. |
Re: Ultimate Ascent Rules quiz
i got 80% YEAH :)
|
Re: Ultimate Ascent Rules quiz
90%
Missed the exact number of discs in a game and that the manual contains rule clarifications (isn't the manual the source of confusion, not clarification?). |
Re: Ultimate Ascent Rules quiz
Quote:
Quote:
<G06> TEAMS may preload White DISCS in or on the ROBOT before the MATCH. A. If the ROBOT is in contact with any carpet outside its AUTO ZONE, the ROBOT may preload up to three (3) DISCS. This means that if you are straddling the Auto Line, in contact with both Auto Zone and center zone carpet, you still get the 3rd disc. |

Re: Ultimate Ascent Rules quiz
at the 48-ish hour mark, we have 964 results - I'm having to actually do some number crunching to get nice data now.
Best Quizzed teams: Code:
team unique names62.6% of all attempts had a score >70% I'm looking for more quiz question ideas. I've gotten a number of nice corrections here and by email. I'd like to expand, though. Thanks for all the great feedback! Edit: another skunk finished while I was writing this post |
Re: Ultimate Ascent Rules quiz
95% Missed the one about rule clarifications
|
Re: Ultimate Ascent Rules quiz
Retook the test, got 100% this time. One of my team members is impersonating me on the test so It may look like I took it a ton of times(he doesn't know my real email though ;) )
|
Re: Ultimate Ascent Rules quiz
95% on first time. got the number of feeder slots wrong TT
|
Re: Ultimate Ascent Rules quiz
I'm really curious how many of the 1111 and 1234s are from the real team vs somebody just hitting a random number.
Is there interest in a continued ranking of best-quizzed teams? |
Re: Ultimate Ascent Rules quiz
95% I guess that's acceptable.
It was done at 6:40 am on a school bus, so Im down with it. |
Re: Ultimate Ascent Rules quiz
Got an 85%
...missed starting height, num of disks in an alliance station, and when students could remove the bot from the Pyramid.... Not bad:) |
