Ultimate Ascent Rules quiz

FRC team 23 is happy to present a rules quiz that you can use for testing your students. FRC 23 requires a 70% or better score from all students to participate in design.

Results can be emailed directly to the student and an optional second email (instructor/mentor email)

If you have issues with the questions, or ideas for new ones, send me an email or a PM. (email preferred)

Re: Ultimate Ascent Rules quiz

I got 80%.

It will be interesting seeing how the rest of my team does on this. haha
Thanks for making this and getting it out there, especially on the first day! :)

70%. Just passed. Pretty good for 11:14 PM. (See what I did there? 1114? Heh...)

I got an 80% as well, and ashamed of it. Better study up on my rules more. But for day 1, I guess that's not too bad.

Re: Ultimate Ascent Rules quiz

85%

Not too bad... I wonder how much of it will change during the season due to updates (like the direct hang question, that one is debatable pending Q/A clarification)

I got a 90%. Missed BUMPER ZONE, and starting height. Pretty good.

Re: Ultimate Ascent Rules quiz

80%; made a couple stupid mistakes(like only counting white disks in the last question).

As per Glossary Term from Section 6.11

implies that the PYRAMID GOAL1, which is only 2 3/4 in. deep, which sits directly on top of the PYRAMID1, begins at a height higher than 90" (by the diagram above), implying that the PYRAMID1 itself, in fact extends higher than the top RUNG1.

It appears that the height of the PYRAMID is not 90", but something in fact taller. Unfortunately, there appears that there are several different direct (factual) interpretations of what this might be.

According to the drawing GE-130174, the PYRAMID includes the PYRAMID cap, which according to drawing GE-130184 includes the Center tube part GE-13018-03, which appears to be the tallest part of the PYRAMID assembly. Let's call the total height of the PYRAMID in this case (which would includes the PYRAMID base, which is technically below the covering carpet, so would measure slightly shorter on a field measuring from the carpet, even though the actual PYRAMID itself would be the thickness of carpet PLUS the thickness of the base thicker) X (which is a value larger than 90", but smaller than 120").

Looking at drawing GE-130434 in conjunction with it's subassemblies, we can ascertain that the 2 3/4" PYRAMID GOAL1 outlined in the earlier text found in Section 2.2.3 The GOALS3 is defined by the plastic side subassemblies found in GE-130414 and bottoms found in GE-130424 and GE-130844.

The discrepancy comes in the following form:
According to the text found in Section 2.2.3 The GOALS3

implies that the post and chain assembly are NOT part of the PYRAMID GOAL. That means one of the following may be true, with no current way to identify which is true.
  • The post and chain assembly are part of the PYRAMID, making the PYRAMID height X (as defined before) plus the height of the post plus chain assembly, minus the overlap on the Center tube part GE-13018-03 with the post (approximately 120" according to the diagram shown above). In this case, Section 2.2.52 is violated, as the PYRAMID GOAL is not sitting 'at the top' of the PYRAMID, but is instead defined within the PYRAMID structure.
  • The PYRAMID GOAL sits atop the PYRAMID as per Section 2.2.52, the post and chain assembly are not part of either definition, and where the 'basket' as part of the PYRAMID GOAL is defined to include the Center tube part GE-13018-03, in addition to a portion of PYRAMID Cap, specifically portions of the subassemblies GE-13018-02 and GE13018-04 as defined by the plane of the plastic bottom of the PYRAMID GOAL pieces GE-13042 and GE-13084. This definition would be in violation of the drawing GE-13017 which is titled 'Pyramid' which lists GE-13018 (the Pyramid Cap) as a subassembly in it's entirety, and therefore in violation of Section 2.15

In this case, the PYRAMID height would be X minus the height of the Center tube part GE-13018-03, minus a portion of the height of GE-13018-02 and GE13018-04 as defined by the plane of the plastic bottom of the PYRAMID GOAL pieces GE-13042 and GE-13084.

In either of these cases, a portion Section 2.26 is being violated.

However, in all three (flawed) interpretations, the height of the PYRAMID is higher than 90".

Perhaps a better way to phrase the question is "At what height is the top RUNG found?"

Re: Ultimate Ascent Rules quiz

I intended that answer to be 120". I will double check. ( I thought I fixed that one already)

Same score, same wrong for me.

I really don't think I'd want to build a robot with such a starting height though...

Re: Ultimate Ascent Rules quiz

I got 95% :D
But the question I missed was

At the start of a match, a robot's maximum height is:
3 feet
84 inches
54 inches
5 feet
6 feet

I picked 5 feet but the quiz says its 84 inches, is that right?

Re: Ultimate Ascent Rules quiz

At the start of the match you are in your Auto Zone, so you can be up to 84" tall.

Re: Ultimate Ascent Rules quiz

There are 6 goals not 5, ONE 3 point, TWO 2 point, TWO 1 point, ONE 5 point.

1+2+2+1=6

Where is the second 1 point goal?

Or more precisely you're touching the Pyramid, which also grants the 84" height to those that opt to start out of the Auto Zone for the extra disc
